Partner in agony.. but won't let me take him to hospital!

Last night at around 7pm, my DP started to get chest pains similar to heartburn. We kept an eye on it, and he took some heartburn relief gaviscon to try to ease the pain (which he said didn't touch it)

Come 9pm and he was doubled over in agony.. he's been up all night, sick every 45 mins / an hour and is white as a sheet, shaking like a leaf and really clammy. His chest is agony he says, and nothing I've tried to give him has eased the pain whatsoever. His back and shoulders are now hurting, too.
I've just woken up to find him lying on the bathroom floor to try to help his back. I've never heard him be sick like he was last night.. and he's almost in tears with his chest.

For context, he had gastric sleeve surgery in February this year, and I'm concerned it could be connected to this? I wanted to take him down to A&E but he insists he doesn't need to.

I'm really concerned..

He's not thinking rationally. Call an ambulance. Sounds like it could be related to his heart.

mrswishywashy1 · 16/08/2022 07:10

It sounds like a gallstone attack, did he get his gallbladder out when he had the sleeve surgery?

ButteredJorts · 16/08/2022 07:10

XP had two hearts attacks and this is EXACTLY how he was both times.

999 NOW.

I’m a doctor. Call 999. There are really serious things this could be including serious complications of his surgery and a heart attack. Do not bother with 111. The paramedics will assess him and talk him in to going with them.

This

KvotheTheBloodless · 16/08/2022 07:13

In the meantime, if he's not taken ibuprofen or aspirin in the last 4h, get him to chew 2 aspirin immediately while waiting for the ambulance.

BipolarSunset · 16/08/2022 07:13

Hi OP.

I'd be near enough certain it's a gallstone attack. They are awful and much more common in people who have had gastric sleeve/bypass. Sounds silly but when I used to have gallstones and had an attack the only thing to ease it would be to vomit. Nasty I know but was totally worth doing it for the relief!

Would defo call 111 though. Hope he feels better soon.

Toosadtocomprehend · 16/08/2022 07:14

999…ASAP…possible heart attack

KvotheTheBloodless · 16/08/2022 07:15

(Aspirin is in case this is a heart attack, although aspirin can be recommended for gallstones too)

lateSeptember1964 · 16/08/2022 07:16

Call an ambulance. Also 300mg Aspirin in case it’s an MI

Toosadtocomprehend · 16/08/2022 07:17

Give him aspirin whilst waiting for ambulance!

SaintHelena · 16/08/2022 07:42

If his gastric sleeve is awry don't give aspirin

SaintHelena · 16/08/2022 07:43

The fact he has survived the night suggests to me it is the gastric sleeve but I'm not medically trained.

itsoneofthosethings · 16/08/2022 06:48

Any help would be so appreciated

no brainer

MrsLargeEmbodied · 16/08/2022 07:45

i should imagine it is gut related
best of luck op

Endlesslypatient82 · 16/08/2022 07:45

Toosadtocomprehend · 16/08/2022 07:17

Give him aspirin whilst waiting for ambulance!

And this is why you should get OFF mumsnet

Honeyroar · 16/08/2022 07:45

I hope the silence means you’ve got help.

WeAreTheHeroes · 16/08/2022 07:47

I hope you've called 999 by now. Don't ask his permission, just bloody do it. Whatever the reluctance or fear is this is not something he can fix lying on the bathroom floor in agony.

figmaofmyimagination · 16/08/2022 07:47

It sounds either cardiac or gallstone related to me. Either way, even if this wave passes, it’s likely to recur if he doesn’t get medical help. Ask him if he wants to go through it all again, possibly worse next time.

ChipsRoastOrBoiled · 16/08/2022 07:48

Hope tge ambulance is here now, OP. Best wishes.

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 16/08/2022 07:49

I would override his wishes and call 999

FitAt50 · 16/08/2022 07:50

Gallstones. I had gastric sleeve 4 years ago and 8 months after the op I woke up in agony thinking I was having a heart attack. Went to A&E and the discovered I was riddled with gallstones, it's a regular side affect. Had to have my gallbladder removed.

Mumsgirls · 16/08/2022 07:50

ignore him call 999 Similar happened to a friend who refused help and died. Family have to live with knowing they should have over ridden him. He is not making a rational choice.
if he refuses help when ambulance comes u will know you have done your best.
Good luck

icelollycraving · 16/08/2022 07:50

Sometimes you have to take control in a situation like this. 999. Don’t mess about with 111.

hopeishere · 16/08/2022 07:51

Good grief just call 999 now!!
