Partner in agony.. but won't let me take him to hospital!

Last night at around 7pm, my DP started to get chest pains similar to heartburn. We kept an eye on it, and he took some heartburn relief gaviscon to try to ease the pain (which he said didn't touch it)

Come 9pm and he was doubled over in agony.. he's been up all night, sick every 45 mins / an hour and is white as a sheet, shaking like a leaf and really clammy. His chest is agony he says, and nothing I've tried to give him has eased the pain whatsoever. His back and shoulders are now hurting, too.
I've just woken up to find him lying on the bathroom floor to try to help his back. I've never heard him be sick like he was last night.. and he's almost in tears with his chest.

For context, he had gastric sleeve surgery in February this year, and I'm concerned it could be connected to this? I wanted to take him down to A&E but he insists he doesn't need to.

I'm really concerned..

He is too sick to be making decisions so you have to. Ring an ambulance now and good luck.

iloveyankeecandle · 16/08/2022 10:31

Gosh I really hope he's ok

I would have to ring 999 against his wishes, he has some seriously concerning symptoms. I hope you went over his head and called an ambulance OP

LapinR0se · 16/08/2022 10:38

My dad had identical symptoms and it was a widowmaker heart attack. By the time he got to hospital it was emergency surgery and 30 mins left to live.

ChsmpagneWannaBe · 16/08/2022 10:46

Hope you are all ok?

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 16/08/2022 10:48

I know I:m too late here but HE IS HAVING A HEART ATTACK. CALL 999.

TheSnootiestFox · 16/08/2022 10:51

Again, to echo other posters, my partner has recently had a triple bypass. His first op was cancelled and rebooked for a fortnight later by which point he was so ill that they said he could have a heart attack at any minute during the wait. They gave me a list of symptoms and said if he had any of them to ring 999 immediately and that list was pretty much what you've just reeled off to us. I myself have had gallstones and the pain is lower than chest. I do hope that you're both ok xx

BlueReindeer · 16/08/2022 10:56

Hopefully you are in hospital with him. Would be a heart attack until proven otherwise but he hospital, or gallstone attack which can be nasty but that for them to decide. If he wouldn’t go in the car immediately then it would be 999. If he arrived saying ? Am I Having a heart attack he would have been seen quickly too.

PinkyFlamingo · 16/08/2022 10:59

Hope he's OK

CormoranStrike · 16/08/2022 11:01

999 with those symptoms, whether he wants you to or not.

notapizzaeater · 16/08/2022 11:04

Sometimes you just have to override what they want! Hope you've rang 999

Branleuse · 16/08/2022 11:08

id say either heart attack or sepsis. Hopefully hes in hospital by now. He is probably frightened. You need to take charge and override him

Topseyt123 · 16/08/2022 11:13

I hope you called 999 and ignored his protests.

Hopefully you are now at the hospital and he is being investigated. I hope he is better soon.

Severe Gastritis or heart attack.. wouldn’t take my chances, get him checked over.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 16/08/2022 11:27

I hope he's being treated in hospital
Even with possible heart attack symptoms always call 999 if it is a heart attack it is time sensitive and the clot can be removed preventing further damage
By delaying he could well be past this point. It's referred to as the " golden hour"

WibbleBibble · 16/08/2022 11:28

Even if it is gallstones, an attack that bad could well be serious. I hope he's being looked after now in hospital

ScatteredMama82 · 16/08/2022 11:34

Goodness me, that sounds like it could be serious. Let us know how he is doing OP?

Yep, it’s a 999 either way, pain that quick that bad from gallstones could be because it’s complexity blocked which could cause a whole world of problems.

whether it’s this or heart attack or anything else that level of pain in that area is always a 999

coldandverytired · 16/08/2022 11:35

Gallstones, I used to think I was dying when I had an attack. Could have progressed to pancreatitis which is a hospital stay to rid the infection and then a cholosystectomy (removal of the gallbladder) if it's the first attack he needs to be seen to get on the waiting list if nothing else- they get worse, closer together and more painful.

Hopefully you've ignored him and called 999, when my mum had pancreatitis even morphine didn't touch it. If it makes things a bit easier when it's gone, other than a few dietary changes which he's probably already made due to the sleeve, everything is all good!

Taillighttoobright · 16/08/2022 11:38

Call 999, OP. Or let 111 do it for you. But do something!

ihatebojo · 16/08/2022 11:40

Hospital, and quickly

FlorianImogen · 16/08/2022 11:47

999 - it could be kidney stones with the pain you're describing. Or, take him to A&E.
