Partner in agony.. but won't let me take him to hospital!

Last night at around 7pm, my DP started to get chest pains similar to heartburn. We kept an eye on it, and he took some heartburn relief gaviscon to try to ease the pain (which he said didn't touch it)

Come 9pm and he was doubled over in agony.. he's been up all night, sick every 45 mins / an hour and is white as a sheet, shaking like a leaf and really clammy. His chest is agony he says, and nothing I've tried to give him has eased the pain whatsoever. His back and shoulders are now hurting, too.
I've just woken up to find him lying on the bathroom floor to try to help his back. I've never heard him be sick like he was last night.. and he's almost in tears with his chest.

For context, he had gastric sleeve surgery in February this year, and I'm concerned it could be connected to this? I wanted to take him down to A&E but he insists he doesn't need to.

I'm really concerned..

Hope you got him to the hospital okay, very stressful, poor things

@ImEasyLikeSundayMorning it is - but generally a doctor wouldn't use 'med student' as their username

Yeah fair one. I wouldn't have done.

I am worrying about the OP and partner... it's a long silence.

Well either he's unwell and Mumsnet isn't her priority or he's fine and Mumsnet isn't her priority. Her coming back to update you won't make a difference.

HinchcliffeandMurgatroyd · 16/08/2022 15:59

Hopefully OP is tied up at the hospital because they’re treating him.

I will never understand people who go to mumsnet instead of medical professionals

Sounds like he was being stubborn while being very unwell and OP panicked.

Endlesslypatient82 · 16/08/2022 16:42

Even more worrying - this man is in his twenties according to another thread

My husband did this. I just stopped asking and called 911. He had c diff and was severely dehydrated. Doctor said if I had waited he might have had permanent damage to his internal organs. Stop asking and just do it. I don’t regret it. Would rather live with him being angry at me then live with him being dead.

JimmiChoux · 16/08/2022 17:27

I hope that everything is ok op.

lljkk · 16/08/2022 17:31

VerifiedBot2351 · 16/08/2022 17:34

I hope it has turned out to be not a heart attack, OP.

It could be an old username, given that a lot of medical students will have qualified over the summer.

The posters saying 111 are incorrect. I’m a doctor. Call 999. This can’t wait.

Oh god so many 'I'm a doctor' and 'surgeon here' on MN these days.

Most of these posts are a load of bollocks. Just saw that the 'paediatric surgeon AMA' got deleted.

No-one knows who is and isn't medically trained on MN. Yes, you could be talking to Sir Robert Winston but equally you could be talking to some massive nutter who roams the internet winding up women.

Agreed but regardless, the advice to call 999 is the correct one. It’s the only option.

My DH was out camping with his best mate and began suffering from chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, sweats, and other concerning symptoms. He pooh-poohed BM's suggestion that they should drive into town to the hospital. Symptoms worsened and BM basically frog-marched DH into his truck and drove like a madman to the nearest hospital.

5 minutes after getting to the ER (A&E) his blood pressure 'bottomed out' and his heart failed. He had Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy. I was told that if they had arrived 6 minutes later he would have died. As it was, they gave him a 15% chance of survival. Luckily, DH was too stubborn to die and survived but it was touch and go for awhile.

Don't fuck around with chest/abdominal issues. Call 999 and deal with your DH's stubbornness later.

JimmiChoux · 16/08/2022 18:26

I don't know why many men are so stubborn about seeking help when they are sick. Surely in this day and age you would Google your symptoms and it would be made very clear that this isn't just a hiccup.

DWMoosmum · 16/08/2022 18:45

I hope you got some help as the clammy and sick feeling are associated with heart attacks. How is he doing?

BirmaBrite · 16/08/2022 19:17

I don't know why many men are so stubborn about seeking help when they are sick.

With DH it was always because he was worried that they would keep him, which they invariably did because he was so unwell, so it has always been an uphill battle to get him to see a Doctor when he really needed to.

McClaire · 16/08/2022 19:24

You need an ambulance in my opinion. If you don't call the paramedics you could end up regretting it. Please call 999. Best wishes.x

Creepymanonagoatfarm · 16/08/2022 19:25

Ime if op rang 111 she will still be battling for an appointment...
Hope your dh is OK op.

You are more sympathetic than me..
Many years ago my then dh had stomach pains that had him doubled up.

I insisted he finish laying the lino before I took him to hospital!!
Bowel blockage.

Sadly he made a full recovery!
Now exh!

riceuten · 16/08/2022 19:29

Drive him to A & E - you might wait hours for an ambulance unable to discharge into A & E

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 16/08/2022 19:30

Yes - 999 of course. The worst that happens is he refuses treatment

I disagree - an ambulance and paramedics will assess and give treatment / pain relief on the spot.

eatyourcrustspls · 16/08/2022 19:41

How is he @itsoneofthosethings? I hope you called for an ambulance, sounds very much like an MI.
