You're tasked with making an in-depth and thorough presentation about one topic. You have no prep time you just have to get up and talk. What would it be?

I was thinking about this earlier while cleaning up and pretending I'm on a show to give my tuppence worth about something I'm a specialist in. I think I would go with skincare as I've done so much reading over the years I'd say I'm fairly well knowledgable. What would yours be and for what reason?

The Jungle Gardening book sounds great! I’d be up for a lot of these talks.

@Yamadori that sounds interesting. Any idea where I can look for info on how to look after an oak bonsai? I have two that I’ve grown for the last year from acorn. No idea what I’m doing.

The plots, locations and characters of all the Arthur Ransome children's books. In fact I'm thinking of applying for Mastermind 🤔

Sounds fantastic - I'd be in the front row for your talk! My favourite children's books. I've re-read them many times. Missee Lee is my favourite because it's the first I read, but I can hardly put a cigarette paper between them, to be honest.

Ha! I normally deliver eulogies in my head when I am cleaning … 😀

But my specialist subject talk without advance prep would be “how to deliver a foal”

I could have done with you a while back!!

Mine is horses hooves. I regularly give in-depth lectures to the dog on this.

One - Buy a second-hand copy of a book called 'Bonsai Basics' by Colin Lewis. Loads on eBay and elsewhere.

Two - The Bonsai4Me website is about the best one there is for UK bonsai.

Three - Join the UK Bonsai Association, it is free and you get regular email newletters re events and club meetings, both nationally and locally. Loads of other info on their website too.

Four - be prepared to get hooked!

Thanks! I’ll do all of those things. Everything I’ve read so far says not to bonsai an oak. I didn’t know that. But now I’ve started I can’t just let them die.

@dodobookends I would listen to that. I inherited my grandmother's collection when she died and think I'm due a reread. Although the first few are practically turning to dust now.

Same.

Or, somewhat differently, the legal framework of leasehold land management in England, and how those laws impact commercial entities and engaged leaseholders.
