New thread as needed.

I wonder what new promises will come out this week?

Listening to Brandon Lewis being skewered by Nick Robinson this morning.

The NI will make little difference to many people on a low wage.

The green levy - I wonder if she realises that it is the SOCIAL and environmental levy and helps support the warm homes discount scheme. Any Tory MPs reading this should just tell her.

Thatcher had least believed what she was doing was for the good of most people

Far less scrutiny back in her day, no SM pressure.

Thatcher did what she believed was best for herself and her ilk, nothing more, like any good Tory now a days.

To find a decent one, you have to back to Heath at the very least.

itsgettingweird · 08/08/2022 19:29

Mrs Thatcher was as right ring as this lot. Truss even thinks she's going to be her.

But what I will say is she would never have had all those parties and she had the guts to answer questions even if her ideas weren't popular.

Oh yes - she would have said that she had had parties.

edition.cnn.com/2022/08/08/economy/liz-truss-economic-plan-flaws/index.html

The frontrunner to become the UK's next leader has a risky economic plan

For Van Reenen, the focus on tax cuts to boost growth is misplaced. Deeper problems in the economy, including more than a decade of stagnant productivity and real wage growth, should be the new prime minister's priority.
"It's a bit depressing the lack of significant engagement with serious issues," he said, referring to both Truss and Sunak's plans for the future.

DuncinToffee · 08/08/2022 19:57

'Thatcher wouldn't have lied' such a depressing endorsement, it really is a race to the bottom with this lot.

AndreaC74 · 08/08/2022 20:03

Both are just trying different policies to appeal to the 'membership, i doubt either of them have any real idea what to do or particularly care, they just need to be seen to care.

Roussette · 08/08/2022 20:23

Thanks for new thread @cakeorwine Smile
This leadership battle/race is neverending...

I think BJ has checked out

Care?

I think it's who can out 'right' who.

As mentioned on the previous thread, the Overton window has shifted. The Conservative party has certainly moved to the right. But is the country prepared to follow them ?

I'd be surprised if they did cake

Look at the mess were in while we had a fairly centric Tory PM.

Ok he was a lying bag of scum but I don't think the country would want someone they felt didn't lie but was very far right.

They are around 33% in the polls, only have to convince around 12% and they 'll get another 5 years.

Johnson appointed some pretty far right people, so as far as i'm concerned he is far right too.

itsgettingweird · 08/08/2022 20:39

I think he's just weak and easily manipulated.

He was never up for the job. He just cannot comprehend that life's norms and rules apply to him.

tobee · 08/08/2022 21:20

He just did and said whatever he needed to get the job.

DuncinToffee · 08/08/2022 21:33

I don't think he is weak and easily manipulated, he wanted to be world king and knew how to get the job.

Wilkolampshade · 08/08/2022 22:30

F so I can find you all. Thx for new thread.

Blossomtoes · 08/08/2022 22:44

Thank you @cakeorwine. These threads are a little haven of sanity.

cakeorwine · 08/08/2022 22:54

I wonder if he enjoyed being Prime Minister.....

Hopefully lucky for.. thread 13 just as Truss or Sunak is looming over us

tobee · 08/08/2022 22:57

Downside :- people didn't value his wonderfulness and pay him enough
Upside :- loads of people loved to give him freebies

BoreOfWhabylon · 09/08/2022 00:22

The ERGs are really trying to keep him ready for when Truss/Sunak's PMship crashes and burns.

I'm convinced he'll be parachuted into a safe seat to run for PM again, unless he's slung ignominiously out on his arse now.

BoreOfWhabylon · 09/08/2022 00:25

Where are my aers?
Thanks for the new thread@cakeorwine

In other news, Mar-A-Lago has just been raided by the FBI Grin

BoreOfWhabylon · 09/08/2022 00:26

aers?
That was supposed to say manners

Well they are selling their London home.

He could be planning to move somewhere safe ...:. 🤔

Roussette · 09/08/2022 07:04

I do wonder what Bj is planning to do. He did not want to leave, he feels betrayed, will he want to just cause trouble or will he walk away. I cannot imagine him on the back benches, that is just not his style.

I imagine this party and holiday and doing nothing time (even though he is still PM) is him planning his next move.

He still has a house in Oxford to live in... it's not quite up to Chequers though is it?

Yes I thought similar.

Until Badenoch has a bit more pull with a broader reach. I suspect she's where the ERG are putting their long term hopes.
