I’d expect about £170 in Sainsburys

MercurialMonday · 23/07/2022 11:56

£210 ?

Just before real bad heat wave two of my children had school trips in very hot weather - so I went to Aldi so it would be cheaper and picked up drinks, easy things and eat fruit salad as wanted them to have food with liquids in to help avoid de-hydration and two small new sun tan lotion bottles - expecting it to come between £20 to 30 at worst over £30 it was only just under £40.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 23/07/2022 11:41

About £220? There's some big ticket items in there like olive oil, cat food, meat and cleaning stuff.

Cat food, ham, bleach and washing liquid are "big ticket items"??

Coffeeenema · 23/07/2022 11:56

SunflowerGardens · 23/07/2022 11:39

Can't believe you sat and typed that all out btw

I know right....who has the time?!

MrsR87 · 23/07/2022 11:57

Totally friends in the shop but I will say £124

MayDaze · 23/07/2022 11:58

Lalalaleeloo · 23/07/2022 11:53

I've never seen gruyère or rocket in Iceland.

And yet I've bought both there. Our local Iceland is a "warehouse" style, so maybe it has a wider range of stock than smaller shops.

MrsR87 · 23/07/2022 11:58

*depends not friends!

Fafafafabetter · 23/07/2022 11:58

I dunno but I went in B&M for toiletries. Deodorant, toothpaste, shampoos etc... £38

I nearly died

takeitandleaveit · 23/07/2022 11:59

It's a lot of brands and convenience food.

No it's not. There are only two brands mentioned, Tetley, and Nescafe. They were the only two branded items I bought.

Not much convenience food either, bearing in mind that my freezer already has meat in it, and some of the 'convenience' things I bought are for a housebound relative who is unable to cook from scratch any more.

£145. Roughly what that list would cost me in Asda. But obviously depends on brands etc.

ItsNotNormalLove · 23/07/2022 11:59

£180 in Waitrose
£120 in Tesco

Ladywiddio · 23/07/2022 12:00

Can’t be arsed to even read the list.

Tuppence?

Yes. They're more than £2 each. There's also toilet rolls, kitchen paper, more than one type of precooked meat and the olive oil alone could be well over a tenner.

Itswaytoohot · 23/07/2022 12:02

It's a lot of brands and convenience food.

Oh come on op, this is mumsnet. Don't you know you should be able to buy one chicken, some broccoli and one MASSIVE salad and that should feed your family for a month 🤷‍♀️

Anything else is just wasteful. And do you actually eat bananas, so much sugar 🙄

LoisPlane · 23/07/2022 12:03

I started counting then stopped when I'd gotten half way and realised how long the list was. Good grief op, I cba to read it never mind type it out!

Forgot to mention the coffee as well.

I count 19 processed/pre made/convenience things. That’s not what this thread is about really but I’m sure it affects the price (if your point is that it was too expensive, you can make these things or find cheaper alternatives)

WeAreOnTheRoadToNowhere · 23/07/2022 12:04

130

FayeGovan · 23/07/2022 12:05

Seriously who the fuck cares? We're all paying too much.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 23/07/2022 12:05

Where was it from and were you buying basics, mid-range or top end ‘finest’ type stuff as that could make a big difference. If in Aldi/Lidl and with offers maybe £120 odd but if in Waitrose/ M&S higher range products could be more like £250.

Magicandspiders · 23/07/2022 12:05

Lots of meat- I'd say £140

MercurialMonday · 23/07/2022 12:06

I caught a segment on one of the Radio news programs - they'd started sending a reporter round aldi last few weeks every week it's gone up they though food inflation was running around 9% .

We do big shop once a month - I think we area really going to feel in this next month with three teens all at home.

19? What are they then, because you've lost me.
