Fluke things that you're oddly proud of?

Thread inspired by a trip to the Health Centre today.

I have good veins and each time I donate blood or have to take a blood test, the HCP always say "Oooh!" and their eyes light up when they take a look at my arm. Every time, I a experience a little glow at this "praise" 😆

Anyone else have things that they aren't necessarily responsible for, that they take some sense of pride in?

I'm truly ambidextrous, in fact I can write with both hands at the same time. And I have an amazing memory. I rarely need to write anything down.

@PyewhacketThat's amazing! Can you simultaneously write something different in each hand?!

theniceunderstandingone · 06/08/2022 00:16

I have a very stretchy vagina apparently 🤣
Gave birth to all three kids with no tears or grazes.
Made the midwives happy that they didn't have any stitching to do.
I was a very easy patient as well, no complications. Just popped them out and was sent home with a 6 hour discharge. Yay me

Tormundsbeard · 06/08/2022 00:16

I’m in my 50’s and at a recent osteopath appointment was asked if I used to be a gymnast as I was so flexible. I wasn’t, but felt very proud for no reason.

also I can confirm not everyone is told they have a lovely cervix - before I had my hysterectomy, every smear test consisted of nurses spending ages looking for mine, then telling me to ask for the extra long speculum next time..

Hairdressers always ask if my hair is dyed but it's not. Some don't believe me and suspiciously say oh its a lovely colour you're so lucky!

ShirleyJackson · 06/08/2022 02:11

I’ve thought of another one - according to my PT, I have an amazingly strong core. I can knock her out of the park when it comes to Russian twists.

Unfortunately, it’s currently hiding under a good layer of chub, but I’m working on it.

MrsFezziwig · 06/08/2022 02:28

I’m late 60s and the nurse doing my checkup said I was the oldest person she had come across who knew their weight and height in metric measurements.

Also have excellent veins (which meant I was much in demand in the olden days when we learned how to cannulate by practising on each other).

I can, I'm right handed but I'm dyslexic, one of the tests was writing l in opposite directions with both hands.

As a baby I slept through the night from a few days old, before my mother had left the maternity hospital.

A relative called round to my parents a week after I was born, my parents were still asleep in bed.

I apparently have a useless super power in that I can tell if something is heavier. I didn't realise this until a conversation with my carer when I said one kindle was heavier than the other.

He didn't believe me and got the scales out.

He recently got a new kindle and I had to prove my super power again.

Pumpkinsanddaisies · 06/08/2022 06:38

I can’t think of anything to contribute weeps into pillow

Puffalicious · 06/08/2022 08:51

Loving these- especially the strong core under a layer of chub. Maybe I have one under my layer? Hopes!

I’ve never yet caught covid despite being repeatedly surrounded by people who have, at home and work.

I’m very resistant to the effects of anaesthetic (not so good). At the dentist, when having a C-section and surgeries with both general and local anaesthetics they have had to use more than expected and have all commented on it. I have no idea why.

Hypermobile or red head or both?

cushioncovers · 06/08/2022 09:11

I'm left handed and have green eyes so I always feel a bit special. 😁
The dentist also says I have great teeth and an excellent cleaning routine so I keep it up in the hope that every time I go to the dentist for a check up I get that compliment.

Not a grey hair & my hair naturally highlights itself in summer. Also better than 20/20 vision, thought I've wanted glasses for years, (won't cheat as my time will come -45 next week)

Huz · 06/08/2022 09:27

About 7 years ago, I used to run after school revision for gcse English lit. I concentrated A LOT on unseen poetry because kids worried most about it. So we used to practice every week with a different poem to get them used to it.

The day before their actual exam, I ran through a poem with them as usual and it only bloody well came up as the unseen in the exam paper! Felt absolutely legendary and made the days of the 20 or so kids who'd chosen to come to revision the day before... have tried every year (that exams happened!) since to recreate this, without success.

Can you have better than 20/20 vision? I thought 20/20 was perfect vision.

I could have written this and I'm 63. I only colour mine with the semi permanent 24 wash dyes once or twice a year (for parties/christmas usually).

I'm 63, not grey and don't colour it. Hair has changed from light blonde to a darker blonde with natural highlights. No grey to be seen at all. Noone believes I don't die my hair.

user1471538283 · 06/08/2022 09:55

I'm genetically very lucky. I've got good nails, hair, skin (apart from this week where it's playing up) and decent bone structure

The rest not so much.

buckeejit · 06/08/2022 12:31

@BlackeyedSusan I'm hyper mobile & resistant to anaesthetic. Is there a link?!

RampantIvy · 06/08/2022 13:32

Do you have EDS @buckeejit?

BalloonSlayer · 06/08/2022 14:28

We had decided to put our house on the market, had had it valued and everything, weee just waiting for something to be repaired before going ahead. Someone put a note through the door to say they wanted to buy a house in our street. Phoned them up, the came round that evening and bought it.

Total fluke but made us feel very jammy at avoiding all Estate agent bollix.

Well yes, there is. Get yourself tested for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which is the most common cause of hypermobility. One of the other (many) symptoms is resistance to anaesthetics and paracetomol.

moofolk · 06/08/2022 16:47

I’ve been told a lot by friends that I give really good advice and I actually listen to them.

That's not a fluke! That's you being a good friend

Interesting, I’m hyper mobile and have Coeliac disease, which apparently gives you a higher probability of EDS, I was vaguely aware of this but hadn’t really considered it. Am now going down an internet rabbit hole. Thanks SharpLily and @BlackeyedSusan

DinosaursEatMan · 06/08/2022 21:50

Also the paracetamol thing, it barely works for me!

GenialHarryGr0ut · 06/08/2022 22:00

I have very thick hair - hairdressers always comment on the fact that it is in beautiful condition - I can take no credit as I only have it cut twice a year and I don't use any special products to make it look good.

SushiSuave · 06/08/2022 22:35

Yes to the good veins! I was once described as "juicy" by a nurse and I've never forgotten it!
