How are cooling your bedrooms tonight?!

The outside temp is set to remain around 25 overnight.

bedrooms feel like ovens. Besides multiple fans and cool sheets/towels as covers, how are you keeping cool in the bedrooms tonight?!

@MidnightMeltdown I was worried about that but I'm using a brand new fan, and mine will be on for maybe 5hrs with the amount of sleep I get!
Smoke alarms work too

Freeze packs of babywipes, make brilliant icepacks

Eeksteek · 19/07/2022 00:16

I’m sleeping in the sitting room. DD is in her bedroom, which is much hotter, but she’s in super-argumentative mode and insist it’s cooler. She’s old enough to come downstairs if her comfort level should overtake her need to argue with everything under the sun.

I’m mostly worried about the dogs, as one of them has been critically ill. I haven’t spent £6K and the last fortnight practically camping in the vets to have her expire in an insane British summer. We have a fan and frozen water bottles and the patio doors open. It’s mostly been Ok today, but I’ll be glad when tomorrow is done with. Don’t really mind heat in the day, but can do without it at night.

mrsfollowill · 19/07/2022 00:18

We have fans running all night in our bedrooms- never crossed my mind it may be a fire hazard?! DS is 20 yrs old and has had a fan running overnight for most of his life as he needs the white noise to sleep.
We're in Yorkshire in the middle of the Red Zone and it's hardly cooled down at all- BBC weather reports 26c right now. I've soaked a cotton nightie in cold water and put it back on - sitting downstairs on a towel for now with fan blasting on me and will head up about 1 am and pray for sleep!
I'm lucky to WFH and can keep comfortable ish tomorrow (and have a siesta at lunchtime) Roll on Wednesday night with 14c nightime temps!

My husband wanted to open the hatch to the attic, but I would rather be too hot than invite all the spiders down and he agreed that all it would do would make me paranoid.
He isn’t British and he is off on one of his rants about why we don’t have fly screens fitted to windows here, as we get moths and daddy long legs in. With those dangly bastards, there is no way I’m having spiders down from the loft too.
plant mist spray has really helped today. I’ve been spritzing all over the place!

Opening the hatch seem to have made a little bit of difference over this past hour or so in my house I don't mind spiders too much I though I'm not really a fan of them crawling all over me at night !

ArrrMeHearties · 19/07/2022 00:26

I've kept the windows and blinds and the back door shut today bar letting dpup out for a pee and putting the washing out. It definetly made a difference and when oh came home he was loving life haha. Got the fan on the now and all the windows upstairs open and will shut them in the morning. Dpup is currently camping in the bathroom with his nylabone for company haha

Izzy24 · 19/07/2022 00:49

Very peaceful and quiet here with a lovely cool breeze through the open windows.

Unfortunately the farmers have been muck spreading for the last few days so the breeze is also very stinky and a random noise like a smoke alarm (but it isn’t) is going off randomly.

😂😂😂😂😂

AdoraBell · 19/07/2022 00:56

We don’t have curtains or blinds, moved 6 months ago and keep forgetting, back of the house isn’t overlooked. Today we kept the windows closed until the tempt dropped to 27, it was 35, all upstairs windows open. Not much I could do today. We ordered blinds, arrived late in the afternoon, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we’ll fit the blinds tomorrow.

Hope everyone manages to sleep.

Adversity · 19/07/2022 01:06

We have covered our front windows in thick white wallpaper to the actual windows pane so they are acting like shutters. It stops the heat on the actual lanes so much. Kept curtains shut. Opened windows around 11pm. I’m sat in the garden on a sun lounger.

I'm laying o top of my bed, fan on. Windows abd curtains closed all day. Still too hot. Ran my vest under the cold tap and put it back on bit of an initial shock but lovely now.

That's just what I've done. Vest felt a shock at first but feels so nice now x

You need to be careful as the motor can overheat and cause fire if they are used for long periods of time. Especially if they get dusty etc. At least make sure that it's clean and a reputable brand.

I'm in Yorkshire too and have just done the same! Just got into bed in wet nightdress!

overthinkersanonnymus · 19/07/2022 01:19

I'm laid on the lounger in the garden. Definitely recommend

tolerable · 19/07/2022 02:10

aw feck- this is a shite forum

Bunnycat101 · 19/07/2022 02:10

I’m sat with my 3yo who is not sleeping and we’re both getting increasingly grumpy about the whole situation. It’s just too hot.

Blizzardbeach · 19/07/2022 02:20

Not very cool tonight! My window seems to have stopped opening too!
Just one fan moving about concentrating on everyone as trying to keep my 3 month old cool too

With the air con on in a cool 19 degrees. Happy days 🙈. Best £300 I ever spent. I'm not rich. But I just couldn't take it any more! Bought in 2018 and it is now in it's 5th summer. I'm in love!

Please can you share a link?

garlictwist · 19/07/2022 02:23

We are sleeping downstairs on the floor where it's much cooler. Although it's 230am and I am awake as the floor is not very comfy...

sashh · 19/07/2022 02:43

Portable air con, it's struggling but had the room down to 22 most of the night.

As with @ThisMustBeMyDream my original one was the best money ever spent, I now have 2.

www.olimpiasplendid.com/airconditioning/portable-air-conditioners

Make you you check it IS an air con, some places say, "air con" when they mean a cooler, air con has a pipe out the window and you don't need ice.

JS87 · 19/07/2022 07:49

I slept with the fan on all night and actually woke up cold in the night 😂

This is the first time I have ever envied the Scots for their weather. My friend lives neat Inverness. I am currently dying in Essex. To wind me up, she keeps sending me photos of herself in a jumper drinking a cup of tea.

As I said yesterday it was hitting 30 where I am so nor all Scots were in their jumpers. LOOKS set to be the same today 😫

Fatballs · 19/07/2022 08:54

I must be weird, I slept under my duvet last night. 25 degrees. No fan, no aircon and the windows shut.

TheOrigRights · 19/07/2022 09:00

I slept really well. I normally wake at least once around 3am, but slept right through to 6am and then back to sleep for another hour. Weird how the body works, eh!

Natsku · 19/07/2022 10:02

I also slept strangely well, best night's sleep I've had in ages. Only just woke up (DS must have heard my mum in the kitchen when he woke up so got up without waking me)

All windows and curtains shut this morning once external temperature got to be greater than internal temperature. Now have fan running in bedroom blowing over stack of freezer blocks. Will open most upstairs windows once external temp drops below internal, which Accuweather suggests will be about midnight. Bedroom door open to intercept any breeze. Just a cotton sheet on bed, probably not pulled up very far to start with. Birthday suits all round. Not too keen on the idea of a shag-free zone though, and DH might have other ideas too.

Well, it seems to have worked! We opened everything up around midnight, when it was beginning to feel cooler outside than in. Internal temperature was a touch over 26 at that point, and had fallen to 24.6 when we shut windows and curtains again about 7:30 this morning. We both had a comfortable night. Roll on tomorrow, when we are predicted to be back to 25 or less outside.

juggleit · 19/07/2022 10:54

@Hillary17 I know what you mean 😩 good to try at least- I had 4 hours sleep last night - so tired today and stuff I should be getting in with. Roll on tomorrow 🤞
