How are cooling your bedrooms tonight?!

The outside temp is set to remain around 25 overnight.

bedrooms feel like ovens. Besides multiple fans and cool sheets/towels as covers, how are you keeping cool in the bedrooms tonight?!

Not only is my bedroom unbearably hot, all I can hear right now are selfish little boy racers with screaming engines and modified exhausts. I can’t close the windows because I’ll suffocate (not that that blocks out the sound). The exhausts sound like fireworks going off. So no sleep for me tonight.

It’s illegal to have engines that loud. People were complaining about them ten years ago, but nothing is ever done. They know the police won’t fine them. So I am completely at their mercy. If they decide to race round the country lanes at 3am, I will be woken up. Nothing I can do about it.

Bought air con machine

sleeping on kitchen floor, ceramic tiles

PeloAddict · 18/07/2022 22:43

Windows have to be shut annoyingly
I'm stealing the cats gel cooling mat

Feelingbl · 18/07/2022 22:43

To close windows and curtins, with die respect is nonsence... those selfcall;ed experts have not clue of thermodynamics,

Flow of air keeps coolness, all lock up? there is not air flow, pack your freezer all over without air flow and it will ice-up all over ;P

Keep windows and doors at home open as much as possible, the air flow will keep you house cooler, warm air goes up, and out by top floor windows, in Britain houses are designed to keep the heat in... just try it

Feelingbl · 18/07/2022 22:44

due respect...oopsies

wobblyweasel · 18/07/2022 22:46

I’ve got the windows wide open, the fan is oscillating vigorously, I’ve frozen a hot water bottle and it’s in a pillow case by my feet (I loathe having hot feet). I’ve just had a tepid shower, I also got a hairdressers spray mister which is wonderful with water and a bit of 4711 in it, liberally spraying it all over. The dog is on his cool mat, after being spritzed with just plain water….. and DH is working tonight so I have the bed to myself!!

Elphame · 18/07/2022 22:47

Our room is about 20 so no changes needed. The advantage of an old stone house.

Different story in the winter though!

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 18/07/2022 22:49

Air con unit and a fan at the same time. Works a treat.... problem is I can’t get to sleep without my duvet so having just a sheet doesn’t cut it for me. I’ve kept the curtains closed all day and it actually made a difference

NippyWoowoo · 18/07/2022 22:49

With 2 fans, a smaller desk fan on my bedside table and a powerful floor fan that's on a stool. Wonderful

Yes.. if it's cooler outside than in! Otherwise it's like opening the windows with AC on in your car, you're letting the cold air out and the hot air in
I had one tiny window open today on the shady side and my apartment has been at a blissful 23c all day

Snoredoeurve · 18/07/2022 22:50

Apply a thin body lotion all over arms, legs, body.
Baby lotion will do-loads of it.
Lie down and fan on, it gradually evaporates , cooling you down
Bliss

Fully in the red zone here and I’m doing - nothing.

can’t sleep with the window open due to city noise.
can’t sleep without clothes on.
can’t sleep without blankets.
don’t own a fan.
kids have been given strict instructions NOT to come in at all hours and complain about it being hot or to say they cannot sleep as there is F all I can do about it. They can open their windows if they want, or get a cold flannel, or whatever but I cannot turn down the sun and they look at me as if I can.

...why don't you have a fan?

DeanStockwelll · 18/07/2022 22:54

I am with pp ,Windows and curtains closed all day I have just opened them but it's still v warm out .

Best tip I have is if you have a loft / attic hatch in your bed room/ top of the stairs only once it started to cool down outside prop the hatch open and let the heat rise into the attic space .
Also turn on and bathroom extractor fans to help draw the hot air out.

GnomeDePlume · 18/07/2022 22:55

Ceiling fan moves the air around, windows open front and back to give a through flow. At least I assume that is what is happening as I am sat waiting on DD at the train station.

CurbsideProphet · 18/07/2022 22:56

We had the windows and blackout curtains shut all day, but when we opened the windows a couple of hours ago we discovered there is no breeze or draft. I'm pregnant and hot and grumpy, but at least in 24 hours it should be cooler...

bloodyunicorns · 18/07/2022 22:57

Sleeping in the lounge. On ground floor. Much cooler. It's boiling upstairs.

Portable air con unit I bought last year and a small fan are creating cross air flow in my room. DD has a tower fan in hers but complaining it's too hot to sleep. Mind you she is wearing fleecy joggers socks and a t shirt! DDog is stretched out on top of my bed in the cool cross air too

Swizzel · 18/07/2022 23:00

My DH has taken the sheets that you can place behind radiators to reflect heat back into a room, and has covered our upstairs windows with them. It's actually made quite a difference, our bedroom definitely feels cooler!

GirlMama21 · 18/07/2022 23:03

Having to feel ecstatic that we've managed to get our bedroom from 29°c+ to 28.1 in the last hour 😒.

Have a fan on, but it's not really helping. The air just feels so blimmin' heavy... absolutely dreading tomorrow when we are forecast 36°c😭.

Redglitter · 18/07/2022 23:06

Temperature here is 20° so its fine. Bedroom & bathroom windows open with a nice cross breeze. Sheet on instead of my duvet & a fan on

TwentyOneTwentyTwo · 18/07/2022 23:06

Ac, I feel truly blessed and grateful for it today. I used to live in a flat with windows only on one side and it was almost all window (2/3rds of wall), it was like a greenhouse with no escape in any room. I used to put reflective bubble wrap up at the windows in summer. Made it dark but made it bearable.

Summerfun54321 · 18/07/2022 23:08

Using a spray pump (old cleaning bottle) to mist absolutely everything with water - curtains, walls, floor etc… plus wet flannel on head. Water helps to cool everything as it evaporates.
