How are cooling your bedrooms tonight?!

The outside temp is set to remain around 25 overnight.

bedrooms feel like ovens. Besides multiple fans and cool sheets/towels as covers, how are you keeping cool in the bedrooms tonight?!

It's actually ok here (coastal Cornwall). A bit on the warm side but not like it can be. I've just dispensed with my duvet and will use my open weave weighted blanket instead, and am cuddling a mini bottle of rapidly de-frosting frozen water to my chest. That will probably do to be honest. I haven't put the blackout blind up which means I'll wake up at 6am but I need the slight breeze from the open window tonight!

JS87 · 18/07/2022 23:09

I tried putting the pillowcases in the freezer as I keep reading about it. By the time they were back on the pillows they were at room temperature again 🙄

Having to feel ecstatic that we've managed to get our bedroom from 29°c+ to 28.1 in the last hour 😒.

Have a fan on, but it's not really helping. The air just feels so blimmin' heavy... absolutely dreading tomorrow when we are forecast 36°c😭.

Have you got any ice @GirlMama21 ?

If not,if you have a small or shot glass, put some water in and freeze it.
When it frozen, run it on your neck, wrists, backs of your knees, inside your arms.

QuinionsRainbow · 18/07/2022 23:13

All windows and curtains shut this morning once external temperature got to be greater than internal temperature. Now have fan running in bedroom blowing over stack of freezer blocks. Will open most upstairs windows once external temp drops below internal, which Accuweather suggests will be about midnight. Bedroom door open to intercept any breeze. Just a cotton sheet on bed, probably not pulled up very far to start with. Birthday suits all round. Not too keen on the idea of a shag-free zone though, and DH might have other ideas too.

Wbeezer · 18/07/2022 23:14

Well, I decided not to put my electric blanket on tonight but I am still under my will duvet!

LimboLass · 18/07/2022 23:16

The bedroom is the last of my problems and I am happy to sleep in the heat for a couple of nights. What is a problem is the front door not locking due to the heat swell. I say problem it is a problem for HB who will be staying awake until it cools enough to lock.

heidipi · 18/07/2022 23:17

Not doing anything, DP refuses to have the window open because of the tiny murderous ninja burglars who could get through a small transom without waking us up and do for us. We're in a bungalow so they'd only need a leg up.

Duvet off, that's it. The DC seem to have got off to sleep ok.

Best tip is to put a meduim size towel in the freezer for an hour, then take it out of the freezer and move to Belfast with your towel. I think Belfast's hot too though so the joke's not really working anymore.

Lweji · 18/07/2022 23:18

Well, I do have air conditioning in my room. Grin And 25ºC is the temperature I´d want the room at.
But I do keep windows closed during the day, and open them at night to create a draft when it´s hot.

blueshoes · 18/07/2022 23:19

I would advise having a cool shower just before bed. Keeps you cool long enough to fall asleep.

Get a fan to blow over your damp body or a neck fan around your face.www.ebay.com/itm/384905510068

AllLopsided · 18/07/2022 23:20

Slightly cooler here - it's just after midnight and it's 23 outside and 25 in the bedroom. Bedroom window open (east facing) and balcony doors in the study next door (south facing). There is a tiny breeze. Wearing a strappy short nightdress because being naked feels sweatier! Fan on. It's noisy but with headphones in I can fall asleep with it on. Have an ice block on my feet and more in the freezer. Haven't seen temps below 30 for several weeks, and tomorrow night looks hotter still Shock Our house manages the heat quite well till it is consistently over 30, which happens for several weeks every summer. Won't easily forget the summer about 7 years ago when family flew in from Aus expecting temperate weather and it was 38 degrees their whole stay! We follow the rule about closing windows and curtains when it's hotter outside than in. We do have a portable air con unit but it's v heavy to move and I can't sleep with it on - too noisy. May get it out to cool the room before going to bed tomorrow if it's worse than tonight.

I hope everyone gets some sleep!

You realise it’s the UV Index you need to look at 🤦‍♀️ which will be at zero through the night?

Do you honestly think if you go outside at 1am tonight it’s going to be boiling hot outside?

I hope you go away and do your research and are actually embarrassed about your attitude on this post

SkiingIsHeaven · 18/07/2022 23:24

Cuddling my hot water bottle which has been in the freezer all afternoon.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 18/07/2022 23:24

My Aussie friend recommends taking an ice pack to bed and using it like a hot water bottle (put your feet on it). That's what they do down under when it's too hot to sleep apparently.

I have ended up outside on the camping mat, lovely right now! Well apart from the neighbours young kids who are still in the pool at 9pm🙄

I've just sat outside for a couple of hours reading, started with my commando dress on, a floaty Indian souvenir, then thought What the hell, no-one can see, so it came off, it was a lovely time, a very slight breeze.

IGotItInTheSales · 18/07/2022 23:26

Been sat in the garden. Bit chilly after a while! We are just north of London

dustofneptune · 18/07/2022 23:27

I’m just rotating around my apartment spraying my cats with a plant spritzer and pointing rotating fans in their direction

Also just now covered my dog in a cold wet towel. He sighed happily… then burrowed himself under my duvet 😂 Currently sitting here waiting for him to regret that life choice…

Grumpsy · 18/07/2022 23:29

Portable ac unit. Had it 4-5 years and it’s one of the best things we’ve ever bought.

AliBaliBears · 18/07/2022 23:29

Our 2 year old still awake - 32 degrees in his room. Way too hot, even with fan on and window open.

Penguintears · 18/07/2022 23:30

Open the windows at night and early morning until the temp outside is hotter than inside. Then close all windows, shut blinds and curtains. It makes such a difference. I don't understand why loads of people insist on having windows open on really hot days as it's so much cooler to keep the hot air out of the house rather than welcome it inside!

Natsku · 18/07/2022 23:31

I'm sleeping downstairs in the dining room which is not quite as hot as the upstairs rooms are, have kept the curtains and windows shut in there all day, then opened the window in the evening once it cooled down. I've put an ice pack in the bed to cool the bed down and now I'm just trying to decide whether I should leave the window open or not. It'll start getting hot before I (hopefully, depending on when DS wakes up) wake up so leaving it open might be a mistake but shutting it might mean its too hot to fall asleep. Dilemma.

bettbburg · 18/07/2022 23:35

The sheet is in the fridge and i shall sleep under that.

bruce43mydog · 18/07/2022 23:36

Ice pack on head, fan on, window open and cold jug of drinking water. Also going to bed as late as possible.

HorribleHerstory · 18/07/2022 23:38

NippyWoowoo · 18/07/2022 22:51

...why don't you have a fan?

Why do you have one?

The only person I’ve known to have an electric fan was very elderly and bedbound. I can’t ever recall seeing a fan in any friends or families homes other than that. It’s never occurred to me to buy one, there would be nowhere to put one in my bedroom, and I would have nowhere to store one the other 363 days of the year.

not to mention trying to reduce the electricity bill

Eaglesqueak · 18/07/2022 23:38

When we first moved to Australia we lived in a house with no aircon. Apart from keeping all the curtains and windows closed during the day, I used to have a tepid shower just before going to bed then lay a towel on the bed and lie on it while still wet. The evaporation helps to cool you down and if you’re lucky, you’ll be asleep before you start getting too warm again. Even better if you have a fan to blow over you - sometimes it even starts to feel too cold!
I’m sure the cold water bottles etc work just as well, but it’s worth a try if all else fails!

FurryFerrets33 · 18/07/2022 23:39

The bedroom is roasting upstairs and as I'm prone to migraines in hot weather, I'm sleeping downstairs on a camp bed as its noticeably cooler. Although I now appear to be sharing my single bed with the cat who I'm shut in with 😁
