It's raining here (Devon). And has been cloudy all morning.

Maybe it will pick up a bit later.

Not sure whereabouts in Devon you are, but if you're on or near the south coast you will feel a lot cooler than everyone else as the wind is coming in from the south, so you will be getting a cooling sea breeze.

Yes, about 6 miles from the south coast.

I used to live in East Anglia and it was always much hotter and drier, although where we were we used to get a sea breeze in the afternoon too.

It is starting to get a bit warmer here too now. Phone says 24, thermometer 26. Which is kind of good because DC's school have some kind of water day planned (paddling pools, supersoakers, a towel and a change of clothes needed)!

Hope all you folks in super-hot places manage to stay cool and healthy!

31 where I am in London, supposed to reach 36/37 this afternoon and only as low as 25 overnight.
I like summer but this is too much. Was lovely in Morrisons just now!

I was thinking about a tactical lunchtime trip to an air conditioned supermarket too! It’s up to 34 here now.

Overcast and quite a nice breeze here in Wiltshire. It's muggy and weather app says it's 33 degrees, but certainly doesn't feel it. It felt hotter last week and the house is a more comfortable temperature today than last week.

HelloAllll · 18/07/2022 12:21

30 here in the NE - 38 expected tomorrow!

skybluee · 18/07/2022 12:23

West Mids, it's 31C. 38C later. I was fine until I had to walk up a hill then started wheezing (very unlike me), considered going into Co-Op as it's usually like the arctic circle in there. Back home now but my flat is very hot. I've been opening windows when it's cooler outside than inside, then shutting them when it reaches equiv temps/is hotter. So they will be shut for a long while now :/. Curtains shut too.

Feel sorry for people in flats directly in the city centre, that will be the hottest part I would've thought.

I like heat but these two days concern me.
Yesterday was OK, thought it was going to be bad.
I keep saying it's just two days. But I am very hot in here currently.

chocolateoranges33 · 18/07/2022 12:25

South coast, not at all hot. I'd describe it as warm. Only 26 degrees but we live a few minutes walk from the beach which is probably keeping the temperature down.

East Sussex,it was 24c at 8am on the school run. I always thought Devon and Cornwall were really warm, yet I have friends who says it's not warm enough to grow pears or even tomatoes without a green house. It's been in the high 20s for a week here.

It'd say the climate here is mild rather than warm. It doesn't get so cold in the Winter (snow is very rare) or as hot as some places in the Summer.

You can grow tomatoes without a greenhouse if you have a South-facing garden but mine got blight before they ripened the last few years.

Sunny and 25 here in our bit of Northumberland. Lovely breeze so feels quite pleasant in the shade. Our cats who came from Portugal are loving it and are lying in the sun. Keeping an eye on them so they don't overheat. They used to spend all day in the fields in higher temperatures than this.

unicormb · 18/07/2022 12:29

It's about 28 here on SE coast and not oppressive. Yet.

kirinm · 18/07/2022 12:30

London - 34C (meant to go up to 36-39C today - depending on which forecast you look at). It is already 29C inside and the sun hasn't even hit the back of the house yet which is when it really starts to heat up.

Wedontbelonghere · 18/07/2022 12:30

I’m in Devon too. Not on the coast. Mid.
its a beautiful day here. About 22degrees, sunny with white fluffy cloud. Perfectly fine to do jobs in. I’ve been horse riding and my husbands a tree surgeon and has gone to work.
the met office app tells me it’s currently 30 degrees.
it really isn’t. My dog is lying in the sun. She has plenty of shade and has sought the sun!

Furries · 18/07/2022 12:31

North Essex coast - Met Office shows as 31 at the moment, not supposed to get any higher. No breeze at all. Living room is showing as 23 which feels lovely!

AuntMargo · 18/07/2022 12:32

32 in lincolnshire

NamiSwan · 18/07/2022 12:32

SE here (Reading), currently 33 degrees 🥵. Was 19 degrees when I went for a run at 7.30am! Dreading tomorrow!

wonkylegs · 18/07/2022 12:33

30degrees in Teesside at the moment we are forecast 33 by teatime
Tomorrow 38
Very thankful for a big old Victorian house with sash windows that open properly to create air currents, cold tiled floors and big trees creating a shady side of the house.
Large parts of the garden are scorched, the house fairly pleasant.

UpsyDaisysarmpit · 18/07/2022 12:34

32 here in West Yorkshire

Namechangenoidea · 18/07/2022 12:35

34 degrees here in north london. Right now I think its actually lovely theres a slight breeze. Maybe not so lovely when it gets hotter than this

SaskiaRembrandt · 18/07/2022 12:35

It's 32 in Sheffield and forecast to go up to 34 this afternoon. I'm working from home and it's actually really cool inside but this part of the house gets sun in the afternoon. I think at that point I'll close the curtains and switch the fan on.

I've also noticed it doesn't feel as humid as it often does in summer.

Sillyotter · 18/07/2022 12:38

33 in West Yorkshire and I’m about to go to a practical exam in a non air conditioned campus 🤢

Signoramarella · 18/07/2022 12:39

Car said 30 degrees at 10am. Berkshire.... now sweltering in the lounge

hamsterchump · 18/07/2022 12:40

29 in Cornwall but there's a good sea breeze and a bit of fluffy cloud so it's just quite pleasant really, doesn't feel particularly unusual.

Frezia · 18/07/2022 12:45

35 C in our garden in southeast London. The living room is at pleasant 24.

ChickenBurgers · 18/07/2022 12:45

I’m on the south coast, don’t get me wrong it’s pretty warm but in my personal opinion it was hotter last week!

Galadali · 18/07/2022 12:46

30 in the garden and 18 in my kitchen where I work. Thank goodness for a north facing house and stone floor! Although it's actually nice outside (and I hate the summer) - there's a lovely breeze and not humid like it usually is. We're in rural Worcestershire.
