When you peg out your washing

Do you have an order in which you hang your clothes?

Dh doesn't; he just pegs them on the line in any old way with mismatched pegs and everything. It bugs me but I let it lie because he is chief launderette in our house.

I did it today though and I have to put it in my order:
Socks
Pants
Cloths
Tops
Bottoms
Tea towels
Hand towels
Bath towels

They also go in order according to family member so it would be dc2, then dc 1, then mine, then dh's stuff. Of course the pegs match too.

Just wondering if others do similar?

I cannot stand un-matching pegs. DH is a wind up and enjoys changing the pegs so I don’t have matching colours on an item of clothing.

Order is colour co-ordinated biggest - smallest.

CuriousCatfish · 10/07/2022 13:52

Nope. Life's too short.

FreezyFreezy · 10/07/2022 13:53

Oooh I don't colour co-ordinate them because I'd be out there hours!

Yes, I have an order and will also eg hang similar items to face the same way. And items needing more than one peg must have matching pegs.

KittyWithStripes · 10/07/2022 13:53

Your DH is mad

but it goes:
trousers
jumpers
tshirts
gym clothes
smalls

SquigglyOne · 10/07/2022 13:54

Didn’t realise people did this 🙈 I’ve just hung a load out in the order I pulled it out of the basket! And the pegs definitely don't match either!

OhNoNotThis · 10/07/2022 13:55

No. Only try and match the socks so I can fold them in pairs when I take them down. And I suppose I put the smaller things on the outside.

ComDummings · 10/07/2022 13:55

I don’t care as long as they’re hung properly, tops pegged from bottom, bottoms pegged from top.

Shangrila · 10/07/2022 13:56

Bigger stuff first like towels and sheets then it's clothes with socks and pants left to fit in all the small gaps.

DeedIDo · 10/07/2022 13:56

Matching pegs natch. Underwear on the inside of the whirly so the neighbours can't see them.

Galliano · 10/07/2022 13:56

I have a system but it’s based on the layout of my washing line space - heaviest items go on a line more exposed to breeze, pants, socks, crop top sized things on one of those frames that folds out from the wall and big light items on a more sheltered stretch of line. Despite having a logical basis it’s still ignored by my DH though rarely an issue as he doesn’t get involved with laundry often.

No , bottoms are pegged from the bottom. The top is heavier and the weight pulls out some of the creases.

RightOnTheEdge · 10/07/2022 13:57

No, I put them out in what ever order I grab them out of the bag and just use random pegs.

Topgub · 10/07/2022 13:58

Nobody has time for this shit surely?

FreezyFreezy · 10/07/2022 14:01

I hang the tops by the top because I think that stops them twisting at the seams.

I hate doing all aspects of laundry apart from pegging it out - for some reason I don't mind that so yea, I make sure I do it properly!

God I bet in weather like this the first things you peg are dry by the time you've finished with that faffy system! Mine gets chucked on the line, in any order, with any pegs. I have 3 kids, there's always more to be pegged out!

DockOTheBay · 10/07/2022 14:05

I usually try to hang out each family members clothes together, so when I take it down they can go into separate bags and straight into their rooms. I try to hand matching socks vaguely near each other.
But I certainly don't use matching pegs or peg them in a particular order. Ain't nobody got time for that!

SummerL0ving · 10/07/2022 14:07

I have a rotary line so peg underwear on the inside so it's more hidden. Then usually t shirts and thicker items like jumpers and trousers on the outside as they dry better like that.

Socks go on my socktopus from IKEA and I pair them all up on that.

I use wooden pegs so no issue with matching.

This way works best for me.

onemouseplace · 10/07/2022 14:07

I hang mine out small things like socks/ pants etc first (matching socks) and then everything else. This just makes it easier to sort when I bring it in as all the smaller bits go in the bottom of the laundry basket and then I fold the other bits on top and they go either in the ironing pile or away.

GroggyLegs · 10/07/2022 14:08

Pegged in groups by person, so when I take them off & fold them, they're in layers ready to take around the bedrooms & put into drawers.

This makes me sound like I've got my life anywhere near in order. It's not.

SummerL0ving · 10/07/2022 14:08

I don't group the washing according to person either.

I just sort it into people when it's dry.

Glittertwins · 10/07/2022 14:10

I don't hang it out in order but I do collect it back in in order - our stuff at bottom, DCs' on top

LadyKenya · 10/07/2022 14:10

I hang clothes out in no particular order. Personally I would not dream of hanging any underwear on an outside line. They are hung to dry on an inside rack.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 10/07/2022 14:10

No, apart from knickers on the inside of the line so if anyone pops round for a coffee in the garden they aren't treated to my apple catchers flapping in the breeze .

TheQueensCousin · 10/07/2022 14:11

I do as you do OP. It makes total sense to me. I also wash all my clothes together, DHs and then the DCs. We wash as needed for each individual. I call it good planning and in no way weird.
