When you peg out your washing

Do you have an order in which you hang your clothes?

Dh doesn't; he just pegs them on the line in any old way with mismatched pegs and everything. It bugs me but I let it lie because he is chief launderette in our house.

I did it today though and I have to put it in my order:
Socks
Pants
Cloths
Tops
Bottoms
Tea towels
Hand towels
Bath towels

They also go in order according to family member so it would be dc2, then dc 1, then mine, then dh's stuff. Of course the pegs match too.

Just wondering if others do similar?

The only thing I am fussy about is making sure I peg out matching socks together then I know the washing machine has snacked on any!

Cornettoninja · 10/07/2022 16:05

I have a rotary style thing that pulls out from the wall, I covert a proper, straight, line. I don’t like it at all.

I don’t care about matching pegs and pretty much my only ‘thing’ is to turn darks and colours inside out to reduce fading.

I did try an octopus thing for underwear and socks, but frankly I just can’t be arsed with a pegging a gazillion small items on that or the line so everything like that gets spread on an airer. All those small things ruin the pleasurable effect of larger items billowing Grin

FrangipaniBlue · 10/07/2022 16:12

We have a whirly gig so laundry always largest items (eg towels) closest to the middle, then trousers, then tops, then underwear

DH does it any old way and drives me potty because the towels block the sun off smaller items underneath that end up then taking longer to dry Confused

I have a rotary line so peg underwear on the inside so it's more hidden. Then usually t shirts and thicker items like jumpers and trousers on the outside as they dry better like that.

Socks go on my socktopus from IKEA and I pair them all up on that.

I use wooden pegs so no issue with matching.

This way works best for me.

Haha chuckling that we do it opposite ways round but on the premise that "our way dries quickest"

MammaWeasel · 10/07/2022 16:17

No, I cba, life's too short. I also have a mix of wooden and plastic pegs, AND the pegs stay on the line all the time.

crochetmylifeaway · 10/07/2022 16:20

I used to. But not anymore. Life is too short. I do have an order sort of but that's due to the position of my washing line and the shed/decking etc. there are places I can't hang longer items incase they get tangled or ripped on the wood but other than that it's a free for all.

My mum however has an order and even has to hand pairs of socks together with matching pegs.

Iamnotanowl · 10/07/2022 16:32

haha this is so funny. Life is difficult enough without having high pegging standards like this

MonkeyPuddle · 10/07/2022 16:37

Nope. Couldn’t give a fuck. As long as it dries.

AnImaginaryCat · 10/07/2022 16:42

Mine is really complicated: hang everything up.

Babdoc · 10/07/2022 16:47

I don’t have a washing line, and if I did, the many birds that nest and feed in my garden would no doubt shit upon it, with the same enthusiasm with which they decorate my car roof. Which permanently looks like a Jackson Pollock artwork… Grin
I sling my washing over radiators. It dried quickly and saves ironing it too.

userxx · 10/07/2022 16:48

Errrmmm, no.

TheQueensCousin · 10/07/2022 16:51

FreezyFreezy · 10/07/2022 14:29

It doesn't take long to hang them out either because I take them out of the spin dryer and sort them into the basket in the order I want them to hang out in ☑

Yep I do this too!

IfYouOnlyKnew · 10/07/2022 16:52

I’m pretty much a control freak with everything and even I just bung it all on the line, no order, no matching pegs!

2pinkginsplease · 10/07/2022 16:54

I put all underwear/socks on a mini hanger as its easier and then separate the tops, trousers etc to hang up.

I hang tops by the bottom.and trousers by the waistband meaning you don't see the peg marks.

Love a good pegging thread

Princessoftheuniverse · 10/07/2022 16:57

ComDummings ·
I don’t care as long as they’re hung properly, tops pegged from bottom, bottoms pegged from top.

You and me both. My husband does it the opposite way up and it’s just NO! 🙈

A random question for those with a rotary washing line that hang underwear on the inside, are you particularly small? I’m 5ft 11 and as I lean in to hang stuff on the inside, the outer line is at mouth level so I have to remember to keep my mouth shut! For me, it’s much easier to hang one big T-shirt on the inside than 8 pairs of knickers!

Starlightstarbright1 · 10/07/2022 17:01

I am with your Ds
.

.my ds. Throw them on the line with the occasional peg🙄

FreezyFreezy · 10/07/2022 17:03

stayingpositiveifpossible · 10/07/2022 16:01

Oh God he is wasting so much time at the other end when it needs to be sorted and put away it is all mixed up.

God Men.

That's my theory too. I hang them out in a way that means everything is easier to put away later (and the towels don't catch on the bushes if they're further down the garden).

PinkPanther50 · 10/07/2022 17:05

I use matching pegs. Stuff gets hung up in the order it comes out the wash basket! I do hang pairs of socks together and tops are pegged from the bottom and vice versa. When taking it off the line I do person by person and shake n fold as I go so it’s already sorted into piles, unless it’s just started raining then it’s a free for all!

katseyes7 · 10/07/2022 17:05

I cannot stand un-matching pegs
I do this! I thought it was just me! They don't have to colour match the clothes, but l have to have two pegs of the same colour on each garment.
I just can't have, say, one pink and one yellow.

cliffdiver · 10/07/2022 17:12

Underwear at the back, obviously.

Grouped by type (pyjamas / school / work / extra curricular)

All pegs have to be mismatched, because if I started off matching them and then got to the last item(s) and there weren't enough pegs to be matching pairs, that would be awful.

Leftbutcameback · 10/07/2022 17:16

I have nice soft pegs so the marks aren't so obvious, and for tees I drape them over the line and gently peg on the seem at the middle which stops them stretching. Otherwise can't be bothered with any order. I do take them off split into mine and my OHs so easier for us to put away each.

clary · 10/07/2022 17:18

Also love a pegging thread! I have an IKEA octopus (socktopus? Excellent!) so smalls are on that.

No size order, but I do try and do the spectrum. Not much orange, yellow or green tho and lots of black.

Pegs MUST match and ideally match the item, but if not (only a few dark grey pegs) then they may contrast. It doesn’t take long honestly.
