Thankyou @AlviarinAesSedai
A lot of people think Wallsend is part of Newcastle. My late DH did until I managed to tell him otherwise!
When I was a child in the 50s it was officially Wallsend Northumberland, Newcastle was separate all together. Now it is Wallsend North Tyneside.

AlviarinAesSedai · 09/08/2022 21:11

Wow, I never knew! Wallsend Northumberland sounds so better.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 09/08/2022 21:38

@longlifefrugaleer laughing at people being soaked was a childhood occupation at the beach we used to go to in France. We knew the usual patterns but many others didn't and would get taken by surprise as the tide came in. Towels, buckets and parasols floating away while we smugly watched from our pitch slightly uphill on the base of the dune.

nildesparandum · 10/08/2022 20:34

@AlviarinAesSedai I agree with you there.About 40-50 years ago the government started messing about with the counties and Wallsend was shoved out of Northumberland and became part of the new county called North Tyneside.Sounded horrible then and still does.

AlviarinAesSedai · 13/08/2022 09:59

Hope everyone is enjoying the weather as is due to change next week.
Chester activity week looked amazing.
I’m too hot.

Whiskeypowers · 13/08/2022 10:14

We’re off to South Shields this afternoon to paddle and build sandcastles. Then I she’ll end up spending a small fortune on rides, arcade games, sugar and tat at the pleasure beach!
went to Chester le street splash pad yesterday which was packed and then in the evening walked the dog around Finchale abbey. Much more rock visible as river bed shrunk back due to the heat / lack of rain but still absolutely beautiful down there

Whiskeypowers · 13/08/2022 10:15

@AlviarinAesSedai yes huge thunderstorms forecast for Monday I believe?

AlviarinAesSedai · 13/08/2022 10:23

Yes, that’s what my bbc weather app says. I’m really looking for to the rain also the thunder and hopefully lightning .
Our allotment is desperate, the hens are spending all their time under the Apple tree and tall weeds. But they refuse to go into their house for shade. Funny creatures. 🐓

AlviarinAesSedai · 13/08/2022 10:28

That sounds like the perfect day @Whiskeypowers . The splash pad looks amazing, when I go for a walk at the park, I always wish I could have a go .
I haven’t been to Finchale abbey for years. We use to take our DDog because she loved the water. Must go back, I love a ruin.

MsMarvellous · 13/08/2022 10:35

We're spending to day driving the distance from the Dordogne to Durham. Enjoy your lovely weather everyone!

BiggerthanIusedtobe · 13/08/2022 11:11

Did anyone else see that red moon last night, or did I imagine it?!

lifelongfrugaleer · 13/08/2022 12:35

It’s Shame the splash pad gets so busy but good to
missed a moon last night but I’m still very tired
hope the car has air conditioning for the drive

nothing to report here as it’s too hot

They got rid of my County altogether. There's still some debate over if we're in Durham or Tees Valley. Bring back Cleveland, I say!

AlviarinAesSedai · 13/08/2022 14:09

I keep forgetting Cleveland doesn’t exist because I keep thinking of Cleveland police force.
I can remember on I love Durham on Facebook (photography sharing page) loads of arguments about whether Hartlepool was allowed or not. It became very heated.
Do love the marine museum there.

It's really annoying, especially with online ordering and drop down lists!

I do still write Cleveland on stuff though!

QuestionableMouse · 13/08/2022 14:38

Yes, the Historic Quay is brilliant! They're expanding too, so I can't wait to see what they're going to add!

PickAChew · 13/08/2022 22:31

DH noticed an eviction notice on the Burger Priest in Durham, this morning. Did that ever even open?

AlviarinAesSedai · 14/08/2022 09:20

The one in Durham city never opened.

Whiskeypowers · 14/08/2022 10:14

Is that the arnison one ?

AlviarinAesSedai · 14/08/2022 10:41

The one in Arnison is closed too. But the one in Durham city never opened, but I’m sure they changed the name but same owners.

TheSummerySilveryPussycat · 14/08/2022 14:06

Anyone see the video of a dust devil in Brandon?

I first saw it on Guardian webpage, saying it was on a farm in Suffolk, but also stating that the vid was from County Durham and Darlington Fire Service!

There is a Brandon in Suffolk - but the sub-editor had clearly not engaged brain. Grin

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 14/08/2022 15:58

Hope you had a good drive home @MsMarvellous, we have just done the opposite direction and arrived in the Dordogne yesterday where we appear to be facing a week of thunder storms. So much for the weather, should have stayed home!

MsMarvellous · 14/08/2022 16:12

@OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea it wasn't too bad but I'm knackered today. 6am (Uk time) to 11pm yesterday made for a long journey. Glad to be home though.

Hope the weather clears quickly for you!

QuestionableMouse · 14/08/2022 16:18

www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-62518856

That's a crazy thing to see!

Someaddedsugar · 14/08/2022 16:23

We've been to Ouseburn Farm this morning and it made me think of you @AlviarinAesSedai as their hens were very stubbornly refusing to go into their house despite the staff trying to persuade them.

The river looked extremely empty and almost dry in places. I don't think I've ever seen it that low.

The whirlwind thing looks so strange!

I hope the weather picks up for you @OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea! It looks like it's not going to be as warm here next week and lots of rain due on Tuesday. I imagine there'll be flash floods as I can't see the ground being able to absorb the water with it being so hard.
