Hi! Originally Durham Coast and now living in Newcastle. Can I join please?

We were at Beamish yesterday - got absolutely drenched thanks to the ‘light rain from 3pm’ forecast being spectacularly wrong 😂

Someaddedsugar · 26/07/2022 11:27

Welcome @Whiskeypowers and @Abouttimemum!

I wish the weather would decide what to. We're just on the edge of Durham city and it's alternated between rain and the sun trying to come through.

Welcome @Abouttimemum and @Whiskeypowers .
Looks like Durham river but I have no idea.
Yes wish weather would make up its mind. On Sunday it was so close and clammy. When out yesterday and took my lightweight coat because was spitting on(not sure if that is correct term) then was too warm. Then arrived back home about an hour before the rain came.

Yes it is the River Wear
we were sheltering form the deluge in the supposed little Count’s house.
back there again today for our usual walk and it was like a different country! So beautiful , everything very verdant and the river is very full now after all that rain

I wasn't expecting rain like this!! It's bouncing down the street here!

I must have sensed it coming because I stepped outside to unlatch the patio doors so I could close them and do something elsewhere in the house and the second I stepped back inside, someone turned the tap on!

They were dredging our storm drains, this morning.

Gilead · 27/07/2022 00:13

Dd was viewing a house in Beamish yesterday, we got caught in the monsoon too!

Someaddedsugar · 29/07/2022 07:30

I hope this rain doesn't last all weekend. I was hoping to go to Crook Hall this weekend but don't fancy it in this weather 😂

We're outbid the NE now and on our way to France. Wish us luck getting through Dover. Hope it doesn't stay too soggy!

Someaddedsugar · 29/07/2022 18:55

Have a lovely holiday @MsMarvellous, and good luck at the port!

Thank you! We got lucky and there was no traffic at Dover at all. Weird!

So hot down here. Its lovely. When we left the NE it was miserable!

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 03/08/2022 20:12

Northumberland is lovely isn't it. Me and the big teenager went to Craster where he had kippers for lunch and then we went coasteering. Turns out teenagers are indeed still capable of being enthusiastic.

AlviarinAesSedai · 03/08/2022 20:22

Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays.
Cant believe it is August already.
Wish I was in Northumberland, or France.

MsMarvellous · 04/08/2022 05:30

I am. I am in France, sorry @AlviarinAesSedai

It's a bit too hot though. High 30s down here. Thank god for the pool! The kids are being brilliant though.

Someaddedsugar · 04/08/2022 06:10

I love Craster @OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea!

I can't believe it's August either @AlviarinAesSedai - it feels like the year is flying!

Very jealous @MsMarvellous

We still haven't managed to get to Crook Hall as every time we want to go it's raining! I'm determined to get there this weekend.

Tickets have gone on sale for the sunflower meadow and maize maze at the farm near Shincliffe - it's £6 per person.

Has anyone been to Crook Hall yet? It's been renamed Crook Hall Gardens.

I've been looking at the website, and the house itself is not open except for the medieval hall, which is a shame. I hope they do something with it soon and open it for public viewing.

nildesparandum · 08/08/2022 21:35

Hello can I join you all?.I am North East born and bred.Originally from Wallsend but have lived in Newcastle for 53 years now.

AlviarinAesSedai · 08/08/2022 21:50

Welcome @nildesparandum . I always thought Wallsend was Newcastle!
The weather has been lovely so I hope Someaddedsugar, you managed to visit Crook Hall. I visited the inside years ago and only remember medieval hall! And the ghost story (was a long time ago).
Pleased that they are finally going to clear the wears on the river, like a little wood at moment.
Also the steel frame is up for bus station, finally!! Feels like years.
They look like they are on final bit at new part for Arnison centre, I can’t wait saddo .

AlviarinAesSedai · 08/08/2022 21:54

The sunflower and maize maze sounds brilliant for children. Mind you I hate maze’s I can never find my way out and I end up having a panic attack. Always need to know why the exits are me. Ridiculous I know.
Durham is looks bit sad at moment, we went today. Very impressed with Waterstones. Love the new decor.

AlviarinAesSedai · 08/08/2022 23:12

Also this week is Chester le Street activities week, great for children. At market place. Plus swimming is free for under 18 in County Durham swimming pools.

Someaddedsugar · 09/08/2022 06:20

We went to Crook Hall but as @xsquared says it was only the gardens that were open. They aren't going to be doing weddings or celebrations either as they want to focus on the garden for now. It's not as busy as most NT properties and I'm not sure if people actually know it's open as it was very quiet when we went. I'd thought it would be busy!

Thanks for the heads up about Chester le Street @AlviarinAesSedai. I'm off later this week so will take DS.

The bus station in Durham looks like it's going to be huge! I think I'd forgotten what it looked like with a building there.

The shops at Newton Hall are also flying up. Hopefully they'll be open soon along with Boyes at the Arnison Centre.

Welcome @nildesparandum 👋🏻

I know what you mean about mazes @AlviarinAesSedai - I don't think I could go into one by myself!

OP posts:
lifelongfrugaleer · 09/08/2022 15:31

That’s disappointing about crook hall.not worth the effort for us then.
saltburn was, as predicted, heaving today. Much fun watching people underestimate the tide and get wet

lifelongfrugaleer · 09/08/2022 15:32

Sorry that makes me sound mean. It was a specific set of people who were being twatty
