I shall report back on the restaurant (vina pho if anyone wants to have a look!)

AlviarinAesSedai · 02/06/2023 08:45

Would love a photo.
Heard on radio another family being rescued off the Holy Island causeway! Two hours after crossing times. The information has never been more accessible, do they just not think.

AlviarinAesSedai · 12/06/2023 07:49

Just bumping this thread, because it fell off my watch list.
How glorious is the weather. We have been in allotment a lot.
Anyone go to either the Sam Fender or Pink or Beyoncé ?
Was the new restaurant nice myrtleWilson?

Just booked tickets to see Wicked at Sunderland. It's my absolute favourite show and I'm so excited 🤩😁😁

I might have to look into taking the bairn over to that. When's it on?

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 12/06/2023 09:29

So hot!

We went to the beach yesterday and the dolphins were making their way down the coast, really close to the shore, leaping around all over the place. It was wonderful.

AlviarinAesSedai · 12/06/2023 11:27

Tue 24 Sep - Sun 20 Oct 2024 for Wicked at Sunderland @SinnerBoy

How old are they? It says something about not being suitable for younger kids.

Brilliant show though, i really can't wait 😁😁😁

Thank you!

She's ten, I sat and watched Wednesday with her. Is it a bit risque?

PickAChew · 12/06/2023 13:45

It's glorious but it's brought out all the terrible drivers.

I walked to the Arnison centre, this morning and the pavements were sticky with tree sap. Never had that before.

@AlviarinAesSedai I love thunderstorms too, but last time we had a clap of thunder here (it was a LOUD one!) it took out the electric!

On another note, I've lived here for a couple of years now (moved from the southeast), and I've yet to find a chippy that doesn't use beef fat - I'm veggie. Does such a thing exist north of Watford? I think I might have to travel to London just to get a bag of chips at this rate!

The one in Tynemouth on the corner doesn’t. Very clear with allergies. Trenchers in Whitley Bay is is definitely beef fat.

AlviarinAesSedai · 12/06/2023 15:09

My DD went to see Wicked with school (London trip) in year either 5 or 6 I can’t remember . She loved it, I mean she really loved it.

Nah, i think it's fine for 7+. Just remembered the warning because i wanted to take my nephews but they're too young this year 🤣

Had a glorious day at work in the sunshine. Now chilling with a sandwich, a shady and ham crisps! 😁

Beeinalily · 12/06/2023 19:24

@Summerishereagain thank you but I'm in Bishop Auckland - mind you I'm on a diet, so perhaps it's just as well!

myrtleWilson · 12/06/2023 21:30

Forgot to update about Vina Pho - we really enjoyed it - they seemed to have done amazingly well for their first week. I mentioned they had a limited menu for opening but we had two bowls of pho and two plates of grilled pork and vermicelli noodles and shared six ginormous summer rolls - all delicious and I'm interested to see how the menu develops once they feel they're on a roll.... we'll be going back soon!

God yes they were. My children were freaked out 😂

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 15/06/2023 19:38

I must admit to enjoying these long sunny periods. The freedom of reliable weather and not having to think about whenever everybody has a hat, sun cream, a waterproof, a warm layer, gloves...... for a day out is liberating.

Sitting in the shade at Maiden Castle after going for a run waiting for dc3 to finish their session.

Hopefully this weekend we'll take the kayak and SUP out.

AlviarinAesSedai · 16/06/2023 12:12

Durham was so quiet yesterday, you can tell the students have left.
I saw that Yorkshire Trading has now closed. Not really looking forward to more places to eat/drink.

SinnerBoy · 16/06/2023 14:40

QuestionableMouse · 12/06/2023 15:51

Thanks for that, she's always asking if the can watch horror things.
No, you can't watch The Ring. No, you can't watch Stranger Things.

I'm a bit ropey with the heat, I felt awful yesterday. Quite a bad headache and nausea, I was going to DIY shops in the heat of the day.

I have seen lots of students on their way to the end of year balls - I remember the lovely summer days post-exams!

It is sad about the shops in Durham isn't it. We went to York recently and there was a nice balance between practical shops and eateries but the shop floor spaces are much larger in York than most of the Durham buildings. Many city centres are completely boarded up so I suppose it is not as bad as that at least.

AlviarinAesSedai · 16/06/2023 15:50

Today was Durham university open day. So
lots of people standing around, looking slightly confused. And getting in the way.
I think other than cinema I won’t be rushing back.
I’m already down to only going every 3 weeks or so, because there is nothing there! Arnison centre and new bit with Aldi is too handy.
I use to go twice weekly before covid.

Someaddedsugar · 16/06/2023 16:42

Why are all the trees so covered in sap? It's so strange! The pavements are really sticky here and so annoying when you have flip flops on 😂

I don't know but it seems worse than usual

SinnerBoy · 17/06/2023 09:15

It's cooler today and slightly cloudy, so my old Labrador will be happy. There are thunderstorms forecast for tomorrow....

AlviarinAesSedai · 17/06/2023 09:20

Rain is forecast from tomorrow so I’m going to enjoy while I can.
My favourite bit of the sun/heat has been the clothes drying so fast.
