Yes for the lunch crowd and it originally started so they could work in school hours for the dc

Someaddedsugar · 11/05/2023 22:44

I'll have to go one day next week @lifelongfrugaleer. We tried the other one (Skinnergate) at the weekend but I don't think I'd go back.

We had thunder this afternoon but no lightning. I do like to watch a good storm when I'm indoors!

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/05/2023 06:09

no I didn’t rate the other one

AlviarinAesSedai · 21/05/2023 00:07

What a gorgeous day today. The weather was beautiful.
Went to Coarse on Friday and it was amazing. Definitely going again when menu changes.
Now to book Faru.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 21/05/2023 09:09

It was beautiful. Today is shaping up well too. I do love a good run of sunshine.

Coarse sounds great. Will have to justify it at some point.

We've just booked the Potted Lobster in Bamburgh for over the summer. It is lovely, relaxed, delicious seafood.

We had a huge tidy up of the "work in progress" garden yesterday and burned all the old hedge that we took down last year. Then we had a bbq. Feels like summer.

AlviarinAesSedai · 21/05/2023 10:24

Is the Potted Lobster, the one the hairy bikers visited? I want to visit that too.
I actually thought the £40 per head was great value. Everywhere is getting so expensive. We went to the cinema yesterday and was £18.99 per person!!

AlviarinAesSedai · 21/05/2023 10:25

My DH loves a good allotment bonfire.
Hope the BBQ was delicious.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 26/05/2023 23:17

Been to Khai Khai in Newcastle this evening followed by a gig at The Sage. Fabulous evening and the food was delicious. Very much enjoying the weather at the moment, feels very freeing when you don't have to think about rain and coats etc.

Someaddedsugar · 27/05/2023 09:21

Have you booked for the new Coarse menu @AlviarinAesSedai - we're thinking of going for the lunchtime version.

I've never been to Khai Khai @OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea - what did you have?

Looks like it should be a nice bank holiday weekend. I'm hoping to get the garden sorted while DP sorts out the BBQ in time for an early tea with DS.

@AlviarinAesSedai I love thunderstorms too, but last time we had a clap of thunder here (it was a LOUD one!) it took out the electric!

On another note, I've lived here for a couple of years now (moved from the southeast), and I've yet to find a chippy that doesn't use beef fat - I'm veggie. Does such a thing exist north of Watford? I think I might have to travel to London just to get a bag of chips at this rate!

AlviarinAesSedai · 27/05/2023 12:37

@Beeinalily Johnson’s in Sacriston. You have to tell the to use the vegetable oil and it’s a 10/15 minutes wait. But worth it

SinnerBoy · 27/05/2023 13:10

I'm in Whitley Bay and most of them seem to use peanut (groundnut) oil. The one by the Metro does vegan fish substitute, made from banana flowers - I doubt they fry in beef dripping!

Anyway, I'm working in Peterhead, but my lass took my prompt and took the bairn to Northumberland County Show. She says the weather is great, they have camel racing.

She comes from a country where they race camels. And they have a quirky version - men have to carry camel calves over a course! (In her home country, not Hexham...)

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 27/05/2023 13:26

@someaddedsugar I had onion and samphire bhaji followed by grilled seabass in a beautiful, creamy coconut sauce.

AlviarinAesSedai · 27/05/2023 15:04

Is that Whitley Bay metro station? Would love to try banana blossom fish.
I think it was a great idea to change the day of the Northumberland show. Buses and trains run today. Sunday (dreadful) service on Monday.
The weather is glorious, won’t be buying barbecue! Because I will cause it to rain. 😆

PickAChew · 27/05/2023 17:19

The weather has been so warm and dry that I've just about emptied the water butt. Just 4 weeks on from Northern Kin!

Someaddedsugar · 27/05/2023 18:15

That sounds lovely @OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea!

Camel racing is definitely unique @SinnerBoy 😂. I pass a farm (I think on the A68! occasionally and it has a sign outside that says there are alpacas for sale - I love the idea of having a pet alpaca.

@AlviarinAesSedai I said the same to DP and surprise surprise it clouded over as soon as the BBQ was lit, and then once we'd finished eating the sun came out 🙄.

We need to get a water butt as everything is so dry at the moment.

Yes, that's the one. Laura's Fish Bar.

twistyizzy · 28/05/2023 09:27

I was competing at Northumberland County Show yesterday. 3am start - 6 pm finally arrived home. Today I'm 😴😴

Someaddedsugar · 28/05/2023 09:28

@twistyizzy what were you competing in? That is a seriously early start!

The horse classes. Yep showing = crazy hours. Plus had spent 5 hours on Friday prepping 😕

SinnerBoy · 28/05/2023 10:15

I've just seen the photos of my daughter standing next to the Clydesdales. They make he look small...

twistyizzy · 28/05/2023 10:18

@SinnerBoy they are such beautiful horses

AlviarinAesSedai · 28/05/2023 12:24

Beamish has Clydesdales, they are beautiful.
I will have to visit that chip shop in Whitley Bay especially if just outside Metro station.

myrtleWilson · 01/06/2023 09:53

Sorry, haven't been on the thread for ages! We are off to the new Vietnamese restaurant in Gilesgate tonight. It's only opened this week and is (sensibly) starting with a reduced menu. The one review I've read so far gave it a great write up and said portions were generous which I hope so because I've started doing an early morning swim each week day at Freeman Quay and I'm definitely ravenous now!!

AlviarinAesSedai · 01/06/2023 10:06

They is take away/restaurant page of Facebook very excited for that restaurant to open.
Hope is lovely, and well done for doing an early swim 🏊‍♀️.
