Source? I can't see the news update yet!

BBC news 24 is covering it as breaking news now.

GertrudeKerfuffle · 07/07/2022 10:14

It's just the icing on his cake of crap, insisting on staying until Autumn.

People are telling him from all angles to just fuck off, and he has the brass-necked utter shamelessness to ignore all protocol and insist he's staying put for now. I can picture him going 'you can't stop me being prime minister, nah nah-ne nah nah' whist thumbing his nose. 🙄

LEnferCestLesAutres · 07/07/2022 10:14

He should NOT stay on until Autumn. Caretaker tory leader - maybe. Caretaker PM? NO.

That ship has long since sailed.

.
True. I should say he could do yet more unimaginable damage.

Call me cynical but does anyone else think there is a possibility that Boris sacking Gove is a way of legitimising Gove so that he can put himself in the running to be PM with the backing of the Brexiteers such as Jacob Rees Smugg and Steve Baker? An insurance policy by Boris in case he couldnt carry on? Perhaps?

Not quite sure why, but I heard someone on R4 yesterday insist that whatever happens, we have to have a Brexiteer PM. (Not sure why, as everyone has told us, Boris got Brexit done).

So it seems choices are still going to be from the many of the dim.

I wonder if Boris is going to be a Ted Heath des nos jours ?

Rosscameasdoody · 07/07/2022 10:18

I have my doubts as to whether this is really good news. I think we had a much better chance of a change of government with Boris still PM at the next election. We can only hope that the electorate will remember the sleaze and the lack of respect for the public shown by the Tories when they vote. Starmer had it right last night. The sinking ship deserting the rat !!

It seems to have been pure childish petulance on Johnson's part. Gove gave him till 9 pm to resign so Johnson sacked him at 8.59.

twilightermummy · 07/07/2022 10:19

I really don’t want Raab in the interim. He seems really aggressive and a right piece of work. Also, he was sunning it up when Kabul fell.

To be honest, I barely like any of them in that party. Zahawi has been a complete disappointment. Like another poster said, hopefully Starmer goes too and that we get a general election. It’s been a complete shit show in politics and they’ve all let us down as a nation.

Have to say though, seeing Gove sacked last night was a real highlight 😂

Penguinwaddles · 07/07/2022 10:20

I said the same on one of the Johnson threads somewhere.
But so,some posted that he told Johnson he had to 9pm to resign. Johnson sacked him at 8.59pm.

Oh sorry I missed your earlier post itsgettingwierd. How intriguing! It has all been stage managed? I wouldnt put it past Gove tbh.

FlouncingBabooshka · 07/07/2022 10:21

Lily073 · 07/07/2022 09:55

Of course. Tories more likely to win the next GE than ever without Boris Johnson.

That might even be for the best though. This country is in such a mess. There’s worse to come with the cost of living, NHS backlogs and staff shortages and the full effects of Brexit coming home to roost. If the Tories were ousted now it would be the incoming Labour/coalition administration the electorate would end up blaming and then the Tories would be back in with a landslide at the next election.

Much as I’d love to see them out maybe it’s best in the long run if they stay and face the music.

twilightermummy · 07/07/2022 10:22

I also want to add that all those last minute resignations, making out they’re doing it for the “good of the country” and because we all deserve honesty..well it’s too little, too late. They disgust me.

Sorry, to be clearer, we are assuming that what we are being told is true. I am not sure I believe it. Gove has always been desperate to be PM.

AmaryIlis · 07/07/2022 10:22

Bridgen has been saying he needs to go immediately. I hope that's a reflection of the view throughout the party.

Sulusu · 07/07/2022 10:23

Can't believe I'm saying it, but Theresa May would be the best caretaker PM.

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 07/07/2022 10:24

Sparklingbrook · 07/07/2022 10:03

Honest and competent with charisma would be good for me. BJ had no visible charisma that I could see. Confused

Boris is a lying, incompetent buffoon but you can’t say he didn’t have charisma.

AmaryIlis · 07/07/2022 10:25

I wonder if the Queen could say "Don't be silly, you can't form a government. Send Dom round"

I can't believe I'm saying it either, but I agree. At least she has experience in the role, and no skin in the game.

Glad you said it because it crossed my mind too. As soon as I heard Gove had been sacked I wondered how long it would be before Boris resigned.

Sparklingbrook · 07/07/2022 10:28

I can. Because I didn't see any.

SerendipityJane · 07/07/2022 10:28

We've already gone from "he is staying until October" to "he wants to stay until October"

I think it may have finally dawned on him that you can't always get what you want.

Blimpop · 07/07/2022 10:28

I think Theresa may should caretaker until new leader is chosen. She doesn't want the job permanently again, and also knows the job. But it would allow a new leader to be elected with minimal disruption.

Anyone got any suggestions for front runners?

BoreOfWhabylon · 07/07/2022 10:28

He cannot be allowed to stay on. He'll try to use the interim to somehow "un-resign" if he doesn't go properly.

Abhannmor · 07/07/2022 10:29

With the exception of Mark Francois , Bridgend is the thickest person ever elected to the Commons.

I wonder if BJ sounded out the Palace about a GE and Liz said no way matey. You have a huge majority , get on with it or get a new leader?
Not like she owes him anything : he lied to her before.

pyjamasituation · 07/07/2022 10:31

Hell want to stay on so he can shred all the evidence of his corruption...and have a few more jolly weekends at Chequers.

Rosscameasdoody · 07/07/2022 10:31

It’s not about individuals.

Hope the electorate remember that and punish the Tories as a party. Just because there will be someone else at the helm, doesn’t mean we should forget what they did.
