How to cover this for house viewing

Hi - I know this is a really small thing, but it's bugging me. We disassembled DS's triple sleeper so he had this small double and a single. Trouble is we can't get the dowel out and I think it looks stupid poking up like that on the marketing photo!

What can I drape over it? Blanket? Throw? Or something more imaginative please. I'd welcome your ideas. 😊

If it’s for marketing photos can they not just photoshop it?

MissedItByThisMuch · 03/07/2022 02:06

Yes, photoshop for photos and ignore for live viewings - no one will notice or care.

MissedItByThisMuch · 03/07/2022 02:08

Just to add my pet hate is “artfully disarranged” throws on every surface. It screams house stager to me and I always assume the sellers have added a bit extra on to the price.

Paint it the same colour as the bed post? Then the eye won't be drawn. Or saw the protruding but off!

FlappyCats · 03/07/2022 02:09

I never thought of photoshopping it!
I know it's insignificant - but it's just annoying me out of all proportion

I had to look at your picture 3 times before I realised what you were talking about.

Painting it is a good idea actually, instant solve. I would saw the bloody thing off, but we'll need to reassemble the bunks again after the house has (hopefully) sold - just needed an extra bed to put in the junk room/office to make it look presentable.

I can't even see it.

Anyone who declines a house viewing because of that will be someone you don't want buying your house!

Yeah I'm not saying it would stop anyone coming. I'm saying it's bugging the crap out of me. Maybe it's because it's taken us 6 months to declutter and clean and repair and it's been massively stressful to get it to this point and it's the straw that broke the camel's back now.

I will get over myself and sit a teddy on it.

Chaps and a cowboy hat? haha

MakeMineAdoubleChocolate · 03/07/2022 03:56

What is a dowel? help! Lovely room by the way!

MoreMulligansPlease · 03/07/2022 04:03

You could saw it off and drill it out, just replacing it later in. Have you used pliers? Warm it up with a hairdryer and try pliers then.

BasiliskStare · 03/07/2022 04:09

If you are so bothered I would saw it off - if the bed is staying together without the dowel being all the way down then it will live. - pretty sure dowels are available from all good retailers Grin

Let not the good stand in the way of the perfect ( or whatever that saying is )

ReeseWitherfork · 03/07/2022 10:07

Easiest way to get it out is to break the dowel up. Can you drill it?

MangoBiscuit · 03/07/2022 10:13

There you go OP.

MeMe3Spoons · 03/07/2022 17:51

But they are viewing/buying the house not the bed, I don't understand the problem?

IncessantNameChanger · 03/07/2022 17:53

Lovely room

Ohmygoditsgonewrong · 03/07/2022 17:55

Cut if off with a small saw?

CornishTiger · 03/07/2022 17:56

Yes!!

FlappyCats · 03/07/2022 22:27

To the people who keep saying buyers won't be bothered. Please see the part where I say it's annoying ME. I know buyers won't be bothered. I have got a bee in my bonnet and I'm quite aware I'm being ridiculous. 😅

My friend has been over this afternoon and done this...

Ok. Master bedroom. Decluttered ( I think) to the point of being really bare and quite cold.

I would add a rug and bench at bottom of bed. DH says keep as is

Both ends look the same height so could you turn the bed around so the dowel is hidden from view by the pillows and cushions at the head end?
Either that or fold up that throw and just leave it folded and draped over one end. Unfolded it is too thin so you can see the bump where the bump where the dowel sticks up.

DeathMetalMum · 03/07/2022 22:40

Turn the bed frame around and hide it with a pillow for the photos.

I can see the bump of the dowel on the photo with the throw. That would annoy me just as much as the dowel.
