How to cover this for house viewing

Hi - I know this is a really small thing, but it's bugging me. We disassembled DS's triple sleeper so he had this small double and a single. Trouble is we can't get the dowel out and I think it looks stupid poking up like that on the marketing photo!

What can I drape over it? Blanket? Throw? Or something more imaginative please. I'd welcome your ideas. 😊

Rug at bottom of bed as it marks quite a large expanse if bare floor- not that it would put me off !! Both rooms are lovely OP- you should walk a sale at the right price

FlappyCats · 03/07/2022 22:43

Both ends look the same height so could you turn the bed around so the dowel is hidden from view by the pillows and cushions at the head end?

YES! Yes! I shall do exactly that!!😘

Lovely house OP!

It should come out with pliers if you get a decent grip and then twist and pull.

but, yeah, turning the bed around would work!

Oceanus · 03/07/2022 23:10

Either photoshop or put a couch blanket over it! I don't like a blanket over the whole length of the bed as it makes the bed look smaller, I would fold it and put it down as if it were a couch not a bed. Lovely pics btw!

Oceanus · 03/07/2022 23:18

I agree with DH about no rugs anywhere. No rugs, trick the mind into thinking it looks bigger imho as you see the length of the floor.

Eightiesfan · 03/07/2022 23:44

Loving the colour of the walls, is it chic shadow by any chance?

RewildingAmbridge · 03/07/2022 23:55

Why are pillows karate chopped these days?

BruceWaynettaSlob · 03/07/2022 23:59

I was expecting something different when I clicked on the thread.

RightOnTheEdge · 04/07/2022 00:07

You've already had some really good ideas about the dowel OP so I will just say that your house looks gorgeous on those photos 😍🤩

FlappyCats · 04/07/2022 00:23

Thank you for all the really nice comments. We have neglected this lovely house due to all sorts of problems and illnesses and it got into such an awful state I was too embarrassed to have anyone round.

The fact that I had to bring in help to declutter and deep clean and then present it has brought about a transformation in my mental health and outlook. For the first time in years I'm feeling like a weight has lifted

I really hope it sells. I shall post the link when it goes live next week.

The dowel doesn't seem so important any more. I think I've just realised it wasn't perhaps really about that after all.

PP asking about colour - it's Cornforth White ( F and B)

Thank you x

your house looks fabulous.

I love all the helpful suggestions - and the instant photo-shop. turning the bed around is genius. I'd have put a throw on it but a thick one folded a bit and put sideways over the dowel end .

Oceanus · 04/07/2022 00:31

I think where we live has a massive impact in our MH. Your house looks wonderful now and it really comes across in pictures, so I don't think you'll have any trouble selling it! Good luck OP, I hope you get a bidding war!

Bunty55 · 04/07/2022 00:42

When selling a house, less is more.

willstarttomorrow · 04/07/2022 00:57

@FlappyCats your house looks lovely. I am in the same place you were in. My house could be a really nice place but over the last few years I have let things spiral too much and do not know where to start. I am a widow and work full time I child protection to keep things going so I know exactly what is causing my malaise but have no idea or motivation how to turn things back around. You have inspired me!

viques · 04/07/2022 01:19

Wrap fairy lights around the foot board.

IncessantNameChanger · 04/07/2022 07:40

How did you find someone to help clear it out? I think I need to hire a professional declutter but even Googling for someone is difficult

Honeyroar · 04/07/2022 07:47

I only noticed it once your friend put the throw over it!

ShirleyPhallus · 04/07/2022 07:50

I agree with turning the bed around but kind of @MangoBiscuit to photoshop it for you

Crazyhousewife · 04/07/2022 07:51

Get a hammer and just hammer it in

User0610134049 · 04/07/2022 07:51

Saw it off

but don’t come running to me when you want to reassemble the bed 😆

FAQs · 04/07/2022 07:55

If she turns the bed around she might scratch the floor or paintwork and we will have a whole other thread 😆

FAQs · 04/07/2022 07:55

Also nice dips in the cushions full marks 👍

Get a hammer and just hammer it in

There shouldn't be anywhere to hammer it into! The 'hole' is made to fit part of the dowel to help place the top bunk & assist it not slipping, if you could hammer it it the top bunk would just squish it down!! Rendering it useless. Easiest option is to ignore it! If you can't ignore it, then you warm the glue up with a hairdryer & use pliers to remove it.

@FlappyCats it looks worse with your friends 'help'!!

Yes, it sounds like it wasn't about the dowel at all, I'm glad you're feeling better about your house. It looks FAR too lovely to imagine it not looking that way!!

I'm looking forward to seeing the listing! I'm trying to buy at the moment, but I suspect if I could afford it, it wouldn't be in the area I need to live & if it was in the area I need to live I couldn't afford it!!

now it's all sorted, are you sure you want to sell it?!?!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 04/07/2022 08:08

I realise you have a solution now but I was going to suggest you put a cat over it. They actually a natural 'socket' where the dowel could go.
