Sir Gavin snitched on himself for low level stuff when made an MP. This would be very funny if it wasn't so serious. Makes In the Thick of It seem from a different more noble era. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/gavin-williamson-cheating-defence-secretary-admit-romance-affair-russia-marriage-wife-a8179056.html

Things are so bad with continuous scandals of lying and entitlement and alleged or proven sexual abuse that it’s masking proper scandals in their own right- like the 40 hospitals. That in itself is a form of corruption.

I have so little faith in the Johnson government and Tory party machine that I wouldn’t even put it past them to drag out acting on some of the individual personal misdemeanor stuff, to gain a few days attention, to mask the other bad headlines.

Sounds like the best it could be then @Roussette
What's this about the Mail possibly turning? That's our best hope, I think. Then some staunch BloJo lovers might finally change their minds.

Talking of BloJo lovers, what has happened to his regular defenders on these threads, have they finally been instructed worked out that the more they post the more people dislike the Tory party.

Shame if that is the case, I still don't understand why it was acceptable to them fro a 56year old to have a birthday party and not millions of children.

DuncinToffee · 03/07/2022 09:42

Therese Coffey on Sophie Ridge

"I don't believe Boris Johnson was aware" about any particular incident, adding "that's what I've been told today"

Interesting addition, starts covering her own back.

AmaryIlis · 03/07/2022 09:43

Even the usual suspects struggle to justify Pincher and Blow-Job's activities, and they're struggling to cut and paste anything remotely comparable from the Labour Party as the usual "Look over there" tactic. Witness the thread where the best they could do was bring up Kennedy and Clinton.

Yeah that Clinton was a right one when he was UK PM wasn't he?!

Someone has talked of 4 sex scandals with Labour MPs. One was a text that was mildly funny but mildly offensive to some. Immediately withdrawn and apologised for.
The others from years ago were dealt with swiftly

Yet here we are with 5 Tory scandals so far this year, involving rape, imprisonment, sexual assault, porn in HoC, predatory behaviour known about for years and ignored
No comparison

itsgettingweird · 03/07/2022 10:31

Agree rousette.

And all this but Labour ......

Labour aren't in power. They aren't making daily decisions that affect mine and my DS life and future. Tory's are in power. They have a lying scumbag liar in charge. They have over 350 MPs and he's the best they can roll out and their are others dropping like flies around him. Even his mouthpieces like Dowden have resigned or are adding "so I've been told" to anything they are told to say to make sure it's known they don't believe it but are repeating what's been said.

C and P what Labour are doing has no relevance. Well.... except to make sure that when the rest of the Tory party wake up alongside the far right brats behind Boris that Labour don't get in instead.

Which in itself is such a worrying policy. Not we can........ but rather Labour have/don't/ won't .....

They must know how farcical they look surely? BJ must’ve dangled some pretty fat carrots for this kind of loyalty. They should be careful, he’s got form for not paying his debts.

And again my eye turns to their donors. there’s clearly no adults with integrity in charge so let’s look at their owners. Let’s start fining them for letting their pets shit all over the UK.

Re the ‘but labour’ 😫- come on then, let’s flush out all the rot. I don’t care who’s worse, I care who gets away with it.

Sounds like a Boy George documentary.

Reactions on Coffey Grin

Matt Green
It’s actually physically difficult to watch this video. But what I’ve learned is that she’s not aware if someone was aware but there was a process that was referred and she’s not really connected or aware or possibly sentient

Armando Iannuci
Before I came on this programme to defend the PM I made sure to shut my ears and hum while I was being briefed. I also took extreme care not to read anyone’s lips. So, you see, I’m literally ignorant.’

Rumour on Twitter that the mail has turned & had enough.

No sign of its front page yet.

This morning a local MP Geoffrey Clifton-Brown was asked about UK growth being the lowest growth in G20 except for Russia.
He referred back to 2020 and said it wasn't. Blatantly lying to the British public about the current situation, being the BBC the wouldn't allow the other guest to correct him.

I know he's a knob (it was his staff member who threatened to have him close the Sainsburys branch I worked at because someone had put a block of cheese in the wrong place and I refused to discount to the cheaper price of the other product).

I know this is relatively minor but I managed to come across Tory arrogance within a couple of minutes of sitting down, it's gone from yearly, to monthly, to weekly, to daily revelations of twitter, I'm wondering if this is the start of hourly doses.

DuncinToffee · 03/07/2022 12:18

More on the DM

Russ Jones

The Daily Mail's biggest shareholder, Viscount Rothermere, has instructed his editors to turn on Boris Johnson. He's told them the paper is out of touch with public opinion.

This is not something Johnson can survive. And any Tory MP defending him now makes an enemy of the Mail.

Cornettoninja · 03/07/2022 12:37

Ookkkaaayyyy. I’m not entirely sure how I feel about the possibility that v.Rothmere rumour is true. On one hand it aligns with my stance, on the other it’s still money controlling information…

DuncinToffee · 03/07/2022 12:45

Too much power for rich media tycoons is never good.

It's all about reader numbers, aka money.

ClaudineClare · 03/07/2022 12:57

Agree that the Mail having that sort of power is really not good, even if it means getting rid of Johnson. I want him to go via democratic processes.

Cornettoninja · 03/07/2022 13:06

I wonder if they are getting jittery that eventually attention is going to turn to them and their purse strings rather than the frontmen?

If that’s the case I would rather the whole system crumbled.

Notonthestairs · 03/07/2022 13:18

They are worried that he'll lose the next election and with it goes some of their influence. All PMs work with media owners - it's a symbiotic relationship - just some of them hide it better.

tobee · 03/07/2022 13:47

Just been discussing The Mail at home and query whether The Daily Mail and The Mail on Sunday political stance are the same or not. And whether this has changed?

Notonthestairs · 03/07/2022 13:59

I'm might be wrong but I think they've had the same editor (Ted Verity) since they gave Geordie Greig the push.

Notonthestairs · 03/07/2022 14:25

It is troubling that we don't really know where the power lies and what their aims are. Press owners aren't elected and we can't get rid them. Leveson doesn't appear to have achieved much and online media has changed many of the rules anyway.
Rothmere & Murdoch must have chosen a successor to Johnson.

newnamethanks · 03/07/2022 14:33

Stand back and fetch the Dettol. For research, I have visited the comments beneath the Mail item on the Pincher. It's a very long time since I looked at any btl comments in the Mail, too repellent, but I am pleased to report that where once they were full of praise for BloJo and all his minions, I didn't see one, out of 50 or so, that supported him. That's very heartening. If his core voters are deserting him maybe we'll be waving him goodbye soon. Off to find the anti bac wipes.

ClaudineClare · 03/07/2022 14:44

Thank you for doing that so we don't have to newnamethanks
