Are there any words you feel really awkward/self conscious saying?!

For me it's 'gig'. I can't say it out loud without wanting to cringe/wince/apologise. It makes me feel really fraudulent!

Am I the only one? Does anyone else have words they just can't use?

Anaesthetist

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 01/07/2022 21:53

Belly, ugh. Sounds fat, white and wobbly.
Unless it’s belly-dancing, in which case it’s somehow OK..

Crackercrazy · 01/07/2022 21:53

Also ‘minutiae’ - sounds weird.

Disoriented

Always want to say it dis-orien-tated.

Disoriented is the American version, the UK version is disorientated.

Eeejjj · 01/07/2022 21:54

I just cannot call my partner or anyone really babe/baby. I shudder

Hawkins001 · 01/07/2022 21:57

Not so much can't more, that you never know who's listening, I try not to use swear words, mainly because their are more flavoured, words and you never know who's company you'll be in so instead, I try to use substitutes.

Anyone who wants me to call them ‘Bex’ when their name is Rebecca. I can do Becky but find Bex so over familiar when I’ve just met someone.

Sartre as in the philosopher. In fact lots of wanky French pronunciations that I’m not sure how to say. Chocolat the film is another one.

A Sharon at my work likes he known as Shazza 😩 I can’t

WhereTheLightningBugsBlaze · 01/07/2022 22:03

That should say likes to be known as Shazza

PiranhaTank · 01/07/2022 22:03

The worst word in the world is panties. Also hate brekky and hubby
😤

Sunnysal · 01/07/2022 22:04

I really struggled with toluene.....not a problem for a lot of people , but in my profession.....

XenoBitch · 01/07/2022 22:04

I have a thick Bristol accent, so I feel awkward about everything that comes out of my mouth.

SybillaB · 01/07/2022 22:05

I always trip over the word strategy. Strategic is ok, but strategy just collapses in my mouth.

Notthecarwashagain · 01/07/2022 22:06

Pain au chocolat.
Nougat.

So awkward. Luckily I have very few reasons to say either, but if I do, it’s with an over the top accent Grin

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 01/07/2022 22:08

Tuesday. Choos-day. Tyoos-day. Dunno. First sounds lazy, second sounds like my Nan trying to be posh and saying Tiss-you for tissue.

Dew. Same as Jew (like the start of Julie)? Or dyoo? No idea. Just try not to say it at all.

Overtired201984 · 01/07/2022 22:11

Jalapeños
Oriented
Hun
Fart

Just all of the above . 1st one I just cringe at the pronunciation of it .

Notthecarwashagain · 01/07/2022 22:12

Also, this is a bit weird, but I’m really uncomfortable addressing my mum as ‘mum’ and my dad as ‘dad’ Have to wait until they’re looking at me if I want to say anything, or just launch in to it!

I can call them that to other people though. And I have no issue with either word!

Yep, in our house we call them 'chocolate buns' to avoid the twatty accent!

PinkButtercups · 01/07/2022 22:13

And then some 🤮.

Haha! Adopting that!

Anyfeckinusername · 01/07/2022 22:15

Poignant - it never sounds right out of my mouth

Disoriented

You're right though. There are two different versions of the word

Whyisitsodifficult · 01/07/2022 22:18

Panty liner, Luxe and Gusset!

PotteringPondering · 01/07/2022 22:18

Cool

Uni

'That sucks'

Spiceupyourlife43 · 01/07/2022 22:20

DandelionPocket · 01/07/2022 20:44

'Cool' just reminds me of when my mum used to say it when I was younger but she would go 'cooooool' and do a slouchy finger-click thing to as an ironic 'i'm down with the kids'. That's now what I feel like when I say it.😂

I'm with you on that. Exact same. That word will never leave my lips 😂

FrustareNT · 01/07/2022 22:21

I absolutely cannot bare the word Toilet ...I genuinely cringe when I hear that word!
