I need a nice, undemanding film

I’ve got a shitty cold and feel like death. Need something fun to watch that doesn’t require any actual brain-cell involvement. We have all the main streaming services and don’t mind chucking in a few quid to rent something. Hit me with your top picks, pleasethankyou!

To Catch A Thief
North by Northwest
Dial M for Murder
Rebecca
All great Hitchcock films!

These!!

Also,

Roman Holiday

How to Marry a Millionaire

Now, Voyager

Harvey

oh there are too many to think of!

Haven't RTFT so I apologise if I’ve repeated others’ suggestions.

LunaLoveFood · 25/06/2022 20:41

The new jumanji and jumanji 2 are good for this.

NiqueNique · 25/06/2022 20:43

Hmmm well it’s not Indiana Jones! exactly, but you could have a look for The Scarlet Pimpernel (the 1982 version, with Anthony Andrews and Jane Seymour). It made me feel exactly like you describe the first time I watched it (mind you I was 8 years old at the time Smile ) and it’s still one of my favourites for proper comfort films.

I also love About Time (big fan of Gleeson)

Also Dumplin is really good.

NiqueNique · 25/06/2022 20:46

That errant exclamation mark was supposed to be a comma! Hmm

You could also go for The Mummy (Brendan Fraser, not Tom Cruise!) if you haven’t seen it in a while - I always find it funny and relaxing, it’s really an underrated film IMO.

NiqueNique · 25/06/2022 20:47

Yes, About Time is good.

So is Somewhere in Time!

NiqueNique · 25/06/2022 20:48

Oh...I just realised you said it has to be funny. Scarlet Pimpernel isn’t funny, but it is exciting and romantic and a good escape.

NiqueNique · 25/06/2022 20:49

And Somewhere in Time isn’t funny either...

hmm I think I should take myself off to another thread!

@Sherrystrull

Watch Heartstoppers on Netflix. Truly heartwarming

I was recommended this by a friend - it's just beautiful and will hopefully help youngsters too 🏳️‍🌈

colouringfoxes · 25/06/2022 20:50

I watched Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle yesterday when I also needed something undemanding but with a bit of a plot, it was distracting and unstrenuous

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 25/06/2022 20:50

Oh no! So many tempting suggestions! The Peanut Butter Falcon is on my list, but maybe not for tonight.

And I LOVE Where Eagles Dare!

I really liked Spontaneous on Netflix. I though it was going to be a teenage horror type thing, but actually it was sweet (if a little bloody).

Barb and star go to vista Del mar

Brilliant film

NiqueNique · 25/06/2022 20:54

@Maireas i quoted you without noticing it was you.

We share an appreciation for classic films!

Badger1970 · 25/06/2022 20:55

Peanut butter falcon was a gorgeous film, I was mesmerised by its simplicity. I love Dakota Johnson and she really shone in this.

MrsAliceRichards · 25/06/2022 20:56

If you have Prime I have just found Speed on there and put it on. Feel like I'm 13/14 again 😂

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 25/06/2022 20:58

Right - we’ve eaten our pizza and I’ve flung a few options at DP. He votes for Crazy Rich Asians. And I’ve now got an excellent list ready for the next time the lurgy strikes. Thank you, everyone!

Thanks for this thread @SomethingNastyInTheBallPool . I have a nasty cold on top of hay-fever and DH is away, so I have the remote. 😁

I watched Together Together on Netflix last night. The subject matter is potentially troubling (surrogacy), but it is nice and cosy all the same.

Also watched Metal Lords on Netflix this week. It is brilliant and feel good.

Hyperion100 · 25/06/2022 21:00

Chef

RightOnTheEdge · 25/06/2022 21:00

Another vote for The Adam Project. Its a fun, easy to watch one.
Or one of the new Jumanjis.

Guardians of the Galaxy is my comfort film.

cansu · 25/06/2022 21:02

I am enjoying elementary on amazon.

TheWeeDonkey · 25/06/2022 21:04

stringbean · 25/06/2022 19:50

When Harry Met Sally - has to be my favourite all-time film. Feel-good but very witty.

Came here to say that. Always my go to when I have a couple of hours to myself. Never get tired of it.

TheWeeDonkey · 25/06/2022 21:07

NeedToKnow101 · 25/06/2022 20:08

Crazy rich Asians

Also yes, or...

Princess Bride
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Sleepless in Seattle

Daisycrown · 25/06/2022 21:33

Amelie or Chocolat...

TofuDelights · 25/06/2022 21:39

stringbean · 25/06/2022 20:20

In that case, either Stardust or the Princess Bride.

Came on to suggest these! Perfect
