I’ve got a shitty cold and feel like death. Need something fun to watch that doesn’t require any actual brain-cell involvement. We have all the main streaming services and don’t mind chucking in a few quid to rent something. Hit me with your top picks, pleasethankyou!

Palm springs!

Another vote for Crazy Rich Asians, Age of Adeline or Sleepless in Seattle are also winners. On the other hand the Bourne Trilogy is great when you’re ill! Hope you feel better soon.

What genres do you usually like?
Chick flick / high school / romance?
Action / murder / spies?
Sci fi / star trek?
Zany comedy?

Give us some clues.

Hmm. Lots of great suggestions - thank you! I’ve already seen loads of them (including The Untouchables WITH OMAR SY, Wink and all the wonderful Studio Ghiblis), but Crazy Rich Asians is getting a few mentions and I haven’t seen that… Austenland also appeals.
I’d be right there for the new Downton if it weren’t so ridiculously expensive.
What I REALLY want is something that makes me feel the way Indiana Jones did when I was a child in the 80s. Excited, slightly scared but also cosy. Does such a thing exist these days?

In that case, either Stardust or the Princess Bride.

AyeUpMeDuck · 25/06/2022 20:20

Raya on Disney+ excellent movie, not too emotionally draining.

new Rescue Rangers on Disney+ of you're of a certain vintage that remembers chip and dale.

Love and Monsters on Netflix. Dumb as all get out, entertaining as hell.

Or, do as I've done the last couple days, Binge the Die Hard movies.
Or do as I did when I had The Rona.. binge the entire collection of Golden Girls on Disney+ .. Thank you for being a friend... Travel down the road and back again...

@Beancounter1 Usually I’m a massive art house/classic film ponce, but I don’t think now’s the time to run through my Ozu boxset.
When I’m enfeebled, I like chick flicks, comedy-action, comedy, spooky but not gory.

I second The Adam Project - it has Ryan Reynolds and Mark Ruffalo in it, so double tick there, and a kind of Back to the Future vibe.

Barb and star go to vista Del mar

stringbean · 25/06/2022 20:23

In Her Shoes is a fab chick-flick - definitely a cut above the average

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 25/06/2022 20:23

Ooh, I’d never heard of Age of Adeline -
that looks fun!

And so does The Adam Project - suddenly lots of choices!

50 first dates is my go to.

BeyondMyWits · 25/06/2022 20:27

Watched Darkest Hour as it is armed forces day, we thought we'd choose something vaguely related. Was very interesting and quite stirring.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 25/06/2022 20:27

Pleasantville or Blast from the Past are my shitty mood go-to films...

Unless things are REALLY bad and I have to watch Gone with the Wind

Watch Heartstoppers on Netflix. Truly heartwarming

Yes! I was going to suggest this. I watched 5 episodes back to back a couple of days ago. It’s gorgeous.

Another vote for Stardust. It's just a glorious film.

Where Eagles Dare. Clint Eastwood and Richard Burton. Absolute hokum but wonderfully well done.
