Butter
Pine nuts - just don't buy them anymore.
Cheese

Everything really.

@Squiff70 - Costco do rotisserie chicken - think they're £3.95.

At under £4 for a cooked chicken, I have to wonder what sort of life the bird had. I know not everyone can be choosy about welfare standards when living on a tight budget but I do try to consider welfare aspects whenever possible. I also don't live anywhere near a Costco. Thanks though, your reply may well help others!

Cat food, was £3.29 for box of 12 pouches a month ago, then about a week ago it went up to £3.80 and today I looked up on Tesco website and it's now £4.50...daylight bloody robbery. I could understand things going up by 10 or 20p but so much is increasing in by 50/60p!!

YES! Same here. It's costing me an absolute fortune to feed our two cats. Plus Pet Plan have just sent their renewal - i've not claimed once, cats are now 1, premium has gone up £70 a year. Why?!

FruitToast · 25/06/2022 21:54

Cooked chicken for my work sandwiches. Gone from 2 for £3 to £3.50 each! We bought a bag of frozen stuff instead this week.

Squiff70 · 25/06/2022 22:20

I'm with you on the PetPlan insurance! We have two rabbits, both rescue buns aged one and two years.

The bunny who is two is insured with PetPlan at a cost of around £17 a month which is a lot for his age. We've made one small claim when the bunny had stasis after coming home from boarding accommodation (not the boarders fault whatsoever, just one of those things). Due to the high cost of insurance, we haven't got the other rabbit (one year old) insured yet.

We previously had two rabbits. One was nearly 13 when he died 18 months ago. He'd never been insured and actually, apart from a minor esr infection as a baby and mild stasis a couple of times in his life, he was never ill. Barely cost me anything, that lad! The other bunny died last year at 9 years old. I'd got her insured when she was a baby and my GOD PetPlan must have hated me! She had so many illnesses and at one point had surgery so major for a mandibular abscess that she was on antibiotics for the rest of her life (about 4-5 years). PetPlan, to be fair, ALWAYS paid out on our claims for her - probably tens of thousands of pounds over the years. When she was a baby (ten years ago now), the insurance cost less than £5 per month. By the time she died I was paying around £22 a month and she was considered old by that point!

Put that I'm contrast with the £17 per month we pay now for our 2 year old rabbit. The mind boggles!

Interestingly, when we had a dog (passed away 3 years ago now at nearly 16), I looked into insurance for him when he was about 10. They wanted just under £350 per month for him which was about the same as my (then) mortgage. I passed on that one but instead saved what I could each month and had a separate vets bills bank account.

I bought a single leek in my greengrocers, it was £1.29.😲

£9 for a prawn sandwich from our local deli. Anyone who likes Lurpak, try Danpak from Lidl. We can’t tell the difference.

Also Norpak from Aldi - excellent. Their specially selected extra salted butter block is outstanding- FAR better than Lurpak block.

Gnusmas · 25/06/2022 23:12

Dd (11) had her hair trimmed 3 inches off last month and they charged £27 for wet cut & no blow dry. Some hairdressers are taking the piss with the cost of simple haircuts. Seems that anything below the shoulders is charged at adult rate for a child.

PUER125 · 25/06/2022 23:37

Heinz soup increased from 90
pence a tin to £1.40 a tin in one week at Asda!

@Springandsummerarecoming @MultiBird and what annoys me with hygienists is that 15 years ago the dentist would have been cleaning your teeth as part of the appointment!

I did notice the small print on the surgery wall does say that cleaning is included with a check up. Or at least I thought I did, but when I've Googled what should be included, I can't find it.

MultiBird · 25/06/2022 23:59

Here, to me, that suggests a check up charge should include scale and polish? It never does though.

MissDollyMix · 26/06/2022 00:01

Diesel.
Noticed a roll of tin foil was over £5 in Tesco last time I needed some. I put it back and bought the same thing from Home Bargains for £1.25.
Mind, we were in the USA recently and I was absolutely shocked by the prices over there. I paid $10 for a small can of normal dove deodorant from CVS. Everything was so so expensive when I came back to the U.K. it felt really reasonable in comparison!

resuwen · 26/06/2022 00:15

£4.50 now for 500g Lurpak. 😭

Ihatethedawnchorus · 26/06/2022 00:28

I've noticed that our local tesco has stopped stocking a lot of the budget items, we don't have any of the budget supermarkets near us

Yesterday in asda, they were selling watermelons for £7!!!

They were £2.25 today in Tesco

NewBootsAndRanty · 26/06/2022 00:54

Cucumbers are now £1 in aldi. Grr.

5zeds · 26/06/2022 01:20

If you have a mixer make your own butter. You just mix it, then wash it in cold water and add a bit of salt. I think less than a pound for 8oz.

Gingerkittykat · 26/06/2022 01:26

My 3.5kg of Royal Canin catfood has gone from £26.99 to £31.99 recently.

LLoyd Grossman small jar of pasta sauce was 3 for £3 a couple of weeks ago and it was £1.65 for a single jar yesterday.

Asda large eggs have gone up from £1 to £1.40 in a few weeks, luckily the medium eggs are now 99p.

mackthepony · 26/06/2022 01:55

Pine nuts £3.40 for a tiny bag. Now officially my luxury item.

^

Use sunflower seeds instead. Tastevery similar, especially when toasted

About a tenth of the price

mackthepony · 26/06/2022 01:56

*tastes very similar

Titsflyingsouth · 26/06/2022 08:53

Seen this across all the mid-range supermarkets tbh. Quietly weeded out....

Been thinking back to some of the posts from Jack Munroe about how officially the rate of inflation is 9-10% but grocery prices have rocketed up way beyond that. As evidenced by many of the posts on here.

Furrybutts · 26/06/2022 08:59

AdBlue. Been buying it from Halfords for 2 years at £12 for a giant bottle.
It went up in one week to £20 for the same bottle!

My sons milk was around £1.05 in 2021, now it's around £1.70 and often out of stock. Costs about £10 a week for milk for one toddler under two, never mind all the other dairy & egg & nut free alternatives he needs.

Have you heard of 'accidentally vegan' they show normal products that don't have egg or dairy in as they are vegan. I'm not vegan but I have a dairy intolerance. Also, Asda has some reasonably price free from food.

Our food bill has gone up loads and we buy mostly the same each week.

The Great British Porridge has gone up 50p and they have changed the recipe so it's very powdery.
