Be a dear and see if you can find in the corner shop, one of those sachets of drink, like the orange juice but infinitely sweeter...oh I can't think of the name of them at the moment but it will go so well with out prawn cocktail for starters I think, with the Marie Rose sauce.

I'd settle for anything from the shop which wasn't a meal of International Stores' cheapest mince (cooked nicely TBF) served with the broccoli and new potatoes that were the only thing that would grow in our garden. It took me decades to get over my dislike for boiled potatoes.

If we're staying with my Grandma then I'll get a block of Neopolitan ice cream in a cardboard box, but we'll have to eat it quickly because the little icebox in the fridge won't keep it frozen for long.

The corner shop will have re opened by the time I’ve got back from my teaching practise/practice ( we used to call it TP) the other side of Birmingham to my halls of residence. After I’ve dropped off all of my cumbersome visual aids that I’ve transported on 3 different buses, I’ll call in and see what they have left.
Im hoping there are some of those individual rectangular blocks of ice creams left at the bottom of their freezer.
Then I need to write my lesson plans for tomorrow before going to the students union for a cold drink- if I’ve got enough money left after paying to copy stuff for tomorrow on the Banda machine.

Can I have a Sparkle lemonade lolly with à joke on the stick for 10p and some of the chocolate in the shape of fish and chips or tools. I'll eat then when i get back from padding in the river (don't tell mum cos we're not allowed down there)

I've just walked 2 miles to the village shop and post office to collect my family allowance, pushing my 2 week old baby in her pram. The shop is expensive so I only buy the local paper (we've bought most of our furniture and baby stuff from the small ads). I do treat myself to an Orange Maid for the walk home. Even though the path is through woodland and shady I'm still hot when I get back. It's a relief to get into our old cottage. It's cold and damp in the winter but wonderfully cool in the summer heat.

The ladybirds! Some days you could hardly step for them. The local lido used to sweep the water every half an hour or so to remove them.

The summer just seemed endless that year. It was such a happy time if you were young enough not to worry about the drought etc. Does anyone else remember their Dad putting a brick in the cistern to save water?
