I am not good in heat either though improved after chemo. It’s about 29C here and I am fine with that. Ds used to talk about the high heat on our Finnish holiday, it was low 20s.

Lemonsandlemonade · 01/11/2022 14:55

What an incredibly beautiful picture Silkie. I really hope GA St hospital help you with your DS.

Prok what is a autogenic training session.

I have seen a job I fancy going for it’s only fixed term for two years at this stage but I want to get back into schools. The job would be significantly less pressure on me. I need out of my job now I hate it so.

Took DS shopping and loved my time with him.

RhubarbFairy · 01/11/2022 19:33

Beautiful photos Silkie. I'm very jealous of that sunshine and temperature as I fear I may get trench foot back here in the UK. Good to hear that things are hopefully moving in the right direction with DS.

Cancelled our trick or treating plans lastnight due to the aforementioned possibility of trench foot. It was howling and lashing it down. There was a 'hereos and villains' party on at a local church that was being hosted by DS1s BFFs parents. DS1 was going as a helper as it was for primary age and I had put DS2s name down as he was flip-flopping between that and trick or treating. The weather made our mind up. It was drop and go so I was gently turfed out, despite my offer to stay and help. I went home and cleaned up the mess left from DS2s pumpkin carving earlier in the afternoon instead. They had a brilliant time and they were kind enough to give each child a party bag and DS1 a box of chocolates for his help.

We're atheists, so aren't involved in the church from a faith POV. However, it is alway lovely to be welcomed into the community irrespective of this (the BFFs dad is the minister).

Lemons, you definitely should. Did you know that as you're in Wales, you can do your PGCE through the OU?

Here's DS2s pumpkin. We used the red light setting on his head torch inside to make it particularly sinister.

Aww lovely Rhubarb love the pumpkin picture.

Yes thanks for the link Rhubarb I would love to do it I’m hoping to secure a job in a school so I can be employed and do it.

I love it when places of worship do family things to promote the sense of community,

RhubarbFairy · 01/11/2022 21:56

I do too. There's a real sense of community and belonging in the church that you don't often get in the wider community, so it's lovely to be part of it, even for only a little while.

Mind you, they've always been welcoming. I first met them in that exact church when I went along for a toddler group.
I had DS1 who was 2 and DS2 who was 7 months. It was a couple of weeks before Christmas and I'd not been there before, but decided to give it a go one Friday. I assumed that their Christmas party would be the following week, so this would just be a normal week. I walked in and was told that not only was it Christmas party week, but there was a waiting list to come to the group (I'd never come across that before). I was absolutely mortified. I immediately apologised for intruding and went to leave. I think they took pity on me because they insisted I stay. I was grateful as DS1 needed space to explore and new toys always kept him focused. They even managed to find a spare gift for him when it came to the presents inder the tree, though I assured them it wasn't necessary.
The leader of the group was BFFs mum, so DS and BFF have known each other since they were 2 (but didn't actually like each other until they were 10!).

MissConductUS · 01/11/2022 23:27

That's a great pumpkin picture, Rhubarb, and genuinely spooky. I'm sorry your Halloween plans were rained out. We had no trick-or-treaters at all, as I predicted and true to form for prior years.

I agree with you about churches. I attend a very relaxed, welcoming church and we get a lot of people who just want to connect with the community. You don't have to be a member to get married there or have a funeral service for a loved one. Christians are supposed to show their faith by welcoming everyone, as Jesus did. He treated women as equals too.

The landscaper came and blew the leaves out of the yard yesterday, which the cats hate. He'll be back in a month or so when they're all down.

I'm trying to get into the Thanksgiving spirit.

Gorgeous photos Silkie looks just what you needed, a proper break away.

Our Church frequently does ‘alternative’ parties at Halloween Rhubarb for children who don’t want to go trick or treating or parents who don’t want them to they have always been a great success. And as someone who ran a Church playgroup for many years, albeit without a waiting list, I’m so glad you were welcomed and loved - it’s what we’re about!

Go for the job Lemons! As someone who recently made the leap, I can honestly say it’s been the best decision for me and for my family - they get much more of me now, rather than the exhausted leftovers!

RhubarbFairy · 02/11/2022 07:08

I inadvertently bumped myself to the top of said waiting list after that as when I asked for it to put my name down, they said not to worry and to just come along from now on.

I used to run a toddler group myself at the same time as that, but on a Monday, but I liked going to others that I could just turn up to and not have to organise. I knew about every one in about a 10 mile radius and had tried them all out at various times. The Church based ones were invariably the most welcoming, the non-faith ones were always cliquey. I ran a non-faith one and made a point of personally welcoming new people and introducing them to existing members. It became a very popular group!

Miss DCat2 would absolutely hate having a leaf blower around. She is terrified of both the vacuum and the lawn mower and will make herself scarce. DCat1 tends to just look on with aloof interest. I managed to vacuum her the other day just for fun as I had it on the handheld setting and she was sat there. She seemed to enjoy it.

Best go rouse the DC for school. First day back on Monday for us all and we're still acclimatising to getting up again.

Have a lovely day all.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 02/11/2022 15:50

Hello all,
Silkie that looks beautiful, you deserve some peace and calm.
Good luck for the next round of chemo Prok
My dull news is that I bought a pumpkin from Morrisons today for 10p. I think Halloween pumpkins are edible, for 10p I'm willing to find out.
Also I just added 3 kisses to this postBlush luckily I realised in time.

RhubarbFairy · 03/11/2022 19:55

Good luck with chemo Prok and well done on your weight gain.

Beautiful pictures Silkie.

Wandered, we have a pumpkin to turn into a pie. DS1 didn't want to carve his, so it has a new job description.

MissConductUS · 03/11/2022 20:14

Prok, the weight gain is a very good sign. Good luck with your next treatment cycle.

Silkie, those are great photos. It's been unseasonably warm here, but not like the weather you're having.

I have a leftover small pumpkin. I'll probably just chuck it into the woods for the critters to eat.

DS had a day in the office yesterday. He bought himself a wool dress coat on sale from Macy's, and he looked so grown up wearing it with his office clothes. DH dropped him at the train station in the morning and I picked him up while DH made dinner. We ate quite late as his train didn't get in until 7:30. He didn't seem to mind working a bit late.

Silkies the Maldives scenery looks idyllic, and I envy your dolphin boat ride. I absolutely love dolphins.

Prok well done on the weight gain, and hoping your chemo goes as well as it can.

Lemons definitely apply for that job. Sometimes an unhappy work situation drags you down in ways you don't recognise until you make a change.

I found a music station that plays very random and sometimes best forgotten music from the 50s to the 80s and have been playing it in the car, much to the DDs' amusement, and mine occasionally too.

My phone weather apps have been lighting up with warnings of high winds, possible serious damage to trees, and resulting power outages for Saturday, beginning in the wee small hours and going strong all day. I need to clear the last of the plants from my deck and tie down the bike I keep there.

Silkierabbit · 04/11/2022 18:14

Thanks Math These dolphins were small and very acrobatic think they are spinner dolphins. They would leap out of water spin a few times sometimes.

I love listening to that era of music too.

Lemonsandlemonade · 04/11/2022 20:33

Wow Silkie what amazing pictures.

I do like pumpkin and sage risotto or a roasted pumpkin soup.

Thanks all re job front. Had a lovely email from the head teacher of the school inviting me to look around.

Think I’m turning into my mother I have recently started listening to radio four whilst in the car.

Nsky62 · 04/11/2022 20:39

My walk to visit, heavy legs, Parkinson’s, cat flea treatment ( has to have vet ones) cheaper than expected 😊

Deathraystare · 04/11/2022 20:58

@Silkierabbit

Pictures look stunning. So you had some rain too? A couple of days ago we had rain (well I London). Huge puddles everywhere and a lake in the road I cross to get to work. Sadly I did not know it would rain like that and my sketchers got really wet. Thankfully for once there were no arsehole drivers whooshing through the water to soak everyone!!!!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 05/11/2022 17:16

Back from hospital, slightly weak and still with swallowing problems, which will be gone soon. Did not do much - took down one load of laundry, wachted several movies.
Lovely weather.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/11/2022 19:22

Just wanting to wish everyone a good weekend.
😊

The sun is out here as the wind is blowing the storm away.

RhubarbFairy · 05/11/2022 20:50

Take care of yourself Prok!

Hi-vis aplenty tonight. We went to a local fireworks display. Their bonfire with the Guy atop was the tallest one I'd ever seen. It took a little while to get going and was quite alarming in places when the billowing smoke was also on fire. I've never seen smoke on fire before.

The fireworks were excellent and ran for 25 minutes. The DC and DH finished the night with a burger/hot dog each and coincidentally we were served by one of my colleagues.

Now home and the DC are off to bed. DS1 has been an absolute horror all day (attitude) so he's already in bed, and DS2 is getting ready as we speak. DH and I are going to watch a film.
