I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Here is the link to the prior thread:

Welcome, @MargaretThursday, and thanks for sharing your medical news. Fever is an immune system response, so I think it being due to stress alone is unlikely. Get a PCR test for covid. The LFTs often give a false negative for the newer omicron variant.

Quit if it's that bad. The rats leaving a sinking ship won't be your problem, and no one should have to put up with abuse at work.

You're quite right @MissConductUS
Last year when omicron arrived and everyone was getting sick and knocked on their asses (my NB baby and I included), no one was testing positive for covid. Omicron is notoriously elusive. Since then stats show ~50% of the pop had omicron. It truly was one of the worst sicknesses I've ever had and took about 6 weeks to recover fully. I've just had DC vaccinated against covid and I took the new bivalent vaccine + flu vaccine last week. Encouraging everyone to do same. Had it not been for vaccination while pregnant I likely would've been in hospital.

On the "dull and unexciting" front: I think I might need a new fridge in addition to a new washing machine. Things are freezing at the back of the fridge. 🤷‍♀️

Lemonsandlemonade · 16/10/2022 20:52

A photo to add to the autumnal pictures. Took this today on walk with my DS.

In boring news my cough is continuing into third week.

MargaretThursday · 16/10/2022 21:26

@MissConductUS Thank you.
I've got a hospital appointment this week, so I requested a pcr from them yesterday. They seemed to think I should get one from them.

I don't think it's covid because when I'm stressed my glands come up, I get sinus pain and mild temperatures. I did speak to the doctor about it years back and she said it was something some people get. She did give a term for it, but I can't remember.
However I do think I've picked something else up as the temperature is more than usual. I'm run down so if something does get a hold it'll hit me more than normal.

I was half-hoping it would be covid so I could claim the week off Grin Preferably without being very ill though!

MissConductUS · 16/10/2022 21:56

That's very sensible advice, @Mumtobabyhavoc. In pregnancy, your immune system is naturally suppressed so that it doesn't attack the baby. Women who catch covid during pregnancy tend to have fairly severe cases. I had the bivalent covid jab and the flu jab a few weeks ago.

Lovely picture, Lemons. We had a fairly severe drought over the summer, so the trees are stressed and will drop their leaves faster than usual.

Margret, was it psychogenic fever the doctor mentioned? I'm sorry you're feeling so poorly. Please let us know what they say at your hospital appointment.

@MissConductUS

Yes, that sounds like it.

HelenaJustina · 17/10/2022 06:23

DC1 and I have spent the weekend ‘oop North’ visiting one of my sisters, who moved up there in July. She was an amazing host, we walked miles exploring a delightful city and as a local she took us to some great spots. Ready for a weekend to recover, unfortunately it’s back to work for the last week before half term.

Gorgeous photo @HelenaJustina

I will be spending today doing very little as the bug that DS2 had two weeks ago and DS1 had last week has got me. I started a new job last month and I'm actually gutted to be off sick for the last couple of days before half term. My new team are so so lovely and were very sweet when I messaged them last night. Whilst also telling me to stay away from them.

I still need to take DS1 to school so am about to drive him and will be doing it in pj bottoms and a hoodie and will not be getting out of the car.

MissConductUS · 17/10/2022 15:58

Rhubarb, sorry you're not feeling well. Is it a stomach bug? I hate it when people come to work with one as they are often highly contagious.

Lemons, I ran across this article and remembered your comment about rugby players and head injuries. You were right, and it's bad.

Neurodegenerative disease risk doubled for former rugby players

We had our family zoom call last night, and DD hinted that she's unhappy that DS had one of our cars at uni and she doesn't. She has a point. We talked to DS about helping him buy a late-model used car and letting his sister take the 2012 Impreza he's now driving. Good used cars are in very short supply and expensive here now.

What a lovely picture Helena! I live night city pictures. Sounds like lots of fun for your DC. We have two weeks here in Wales I’m ready for a holiday now!

MissC yes it’s frightening isn’t it. My DH has said DS will not play rugby! Same here re cars second hand cars were at a premium although they have now started to come down in price and are more readily available.

DS was as high as a kite tonight but he was overtired. Took ages to get him into his sleeping bag and cot. Kept running round his room naked!

DM birthday tomorrow so I plan to put a banner up etc and wrapping to do.

MissConductUS · 17/10/2022 19:46

Lemons, we were very pleased when DD and DS chose rowing as their sport in high school and uni. They are both strong swimmers, and they're unlikely to be injured. It's also a good way to learn teamwork. The supply of cars is starting to get better here too. I knew things were on the mend when the car makers started advertising on TV again. I read about how they are likely to continue supplying modest numbers as they like the high prices. We have a lovely salesperson at our Subaru dealer. We've bought three cars from her, so we're old customers, and DH rang her today to ask her to let us know if she sees something suitable.

The colors have really popped since last week. The water in the reservoir was like glass today.

Lovely pic Miss!
DS2 is a keen rugby player, but unlikely to progress beyond the amateur game thank goodness.

Plastichanger · 18/10/2022 07:55

Gorgeous colours in that photo, @Miss.

In dull news and also, in keeping with the fridge theme from earlier on, DS’s brand new fridge freezer is not working and he will have to bin most of the contents including the lovingly made batch cooked food by me 😢.

RhubarbFairy · 18/10/2022 10:06

Gorgeous photo @MissConductUS.

Yes, it's a stomach bug. I'm feeling much brighter today and would like to be back at work, however I'm not allowed as I'm not 48 hours clear yet. Hoping for tomorrow if all stays okay.

So I'm enjoying having the house to myself as both DC are at school and DH is out at the office (unusual as he's always WFH these days). I should really use this bonus time to get on with my uni work. So far I have spent some time on Duolingo, hung up some washing and perused Mumsnet and Snowheads.

MargaretThursday · 18/10/2022 15:22

That's a lovely photo. It's as good as any of the ones I've used checked there's no copyright on to make posters in the past. Love it.

My hospital appointment was smooth, on time and reassuring, and still covid negative. So all well. And the letter the doctor has given afterwards has the most beautiful signature I think I've ever seen. It's almost an art piece in itself.

MissConductUS · 18/10/2022 15:54

I'm glad you're feeling better, Rhubarb. Stomach viruses are awful, but they tend to resolve quickly.

Good news that you are in fact covid negative, Margaret. Are you feeling better, and did the fever clear up?

I had a dental cleaning last night and I have an infection around one of my dental implants. They had to numb the area and inject a slow-release antibiotic into the gum. Fortunately, DS made pizza last night, so I didn't have to bother with making dinner.

Wow MissC what a beautiful picture.

Watched clip of Mark Drakford ( The leader of the Labour Party in Wales) loose his cool with the opposition leader. He is usually a very calm man.

mathanxiety · 19/10/2022 04:53

I brought in most of my plants last weekend ahead of a cold snap. Saw on tonight's news and weather that they got 18 inches of snow in Marquette, Michigan ( nowhere near here, but a reminder of what we can expect).

echt · 19/10/2022 06:44

I finished painting the front fence today, a whole stretch that had been hidden by an overhanging tree just cut down. I needed to use up the pot. Also primed the front windowsills (west-facing so get hammer from the Australian sun).

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/10/2022 09:32

@silkierabbit
I am getting worried.
Are you and yours ok?

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/10/2022 12:41

I was sent home from the hospital, white blood cells too low, back in on Monday.
So I've done laundry, cleaned two drains, and generally tidied up.

HelenaJustina · 19/10/2022 19:33

Are those activities designed to boost your white count Prok?!

Speaking of uni work Rhubarb today I was enrolled in an 18 month work related apprenticeship. It’ll be great in the end but I’m now a bit apprehensive about the 418 hours of study I’m supposed to do. Luckily my A-levels and BA exempted me from English and Maths functional skills courses!

MissConductUS · 19/10/2022 19:44

Math, that report of snow reminded me that DH needs to take our snowblower in for its annual service. It was 35 degrees F here this morning.

Painting the fence and windowsills sounds very industrious, so well done Echt.

Prok, I'm glad they let you skip a cycle and get some rest.

Helena, good for you for pursuing the course. I did my master's degree part time ages ago and it was very worthwhile in the long run.

I just got an alert from our Ring system that one of the cameras picked up motion on our driveway. Thinking it might be a parcel I was expecting, I checked the camera on the website. It was wild turkeys, but the front lawn and garden look nice. They came out of the woods on the other side of the stone fence and then disappeared down the hill.

Ooof @HelenaJustina. 418 hours of study does sound very daunting. This is my final module. Just 5 assignments stand between me and my BA. It's been a long time coming.

Prok, aren't you supposed to be resting?

Speaking of plants, my class teacher gave all of our team (4 of us TAs in that class) a plant and a large chocolate bar as a thank you as its the end of term today. I only started in September so she doesn't know my reputation as a plant serial killer yet. I will be passing it on to a friend within days to give it a fighting chance at life.

rhubarb, I had a nice chuckle at your plant serial killer comment because I am very much the same. I dread a plant gift and prefer cut flowers. I feel so guilty when I ultimately toss a plant in the compost bin.
Good for you to be working on the degree! I've been 6 courses away from a BA for 10 years.... would love to resume and complete it!

Lemonsandlemonade · 19/10/2022 20:59

Rhubarb that’s a lovely thing from the class teacher.

Feeling stressed tonight all work related - I need a new job badly but nothing appealing to me, I want to get back into school to
possibly do my PGCE in a couple of years from now. I have a meeting tomorrow which I am dreading.

Prok are you not supposed to be resting? Hope your blood count is ok for Monday.

Hope you’re ok Silkie.
