DS1 had a diagnosis of ADHD a year ago. The difference in his test results by being eligible for additional time and support has been incredible.

Ditto my ds. In his case he didn't get extra time, but gets a laptop to use. he went up 4 levels between tests due to that.
He told me that some of his form were loudly objecting that he could use a laptop and saying it wasn't fair. Apparently he told them if they came near enough he'd hug them and see if they could "catch adhd or autism" from him. He tells me there haven't been any complaints since.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 27/10/2022 21:37

He sounds brilliant MargaretThursday!

Deathraystare · 28/10/2022 07:21

Yesterday we had a 'lock down' at work. We get a flashing light in reception to tell us this is happening though usually there is an alarm going off in one of the wards too. Very rarely the ward themselves will ring down to us and tell us. We have to note the details in a book.

This means a patient has escaped a ward and is on their way down. One of the doors automatically shuts and no one can get in or out.

Cue idiots that work here telling me they need to get in/out even though I have just explained that no one can get in or out until the ward turns it off. One asked if I could get a nurse off the ward to come down and see her. Er... how would she get out? Eventually when she could get in, she walked past one of the porters with a face like a slapped arse!

I am also astounded at the number of people ringing reception (some of them are staff) asking me to put them through to whoever and it is engaged or the person has an answerphone on. They react as if this has never happened to them in their life!

Me: I am sorry but the number is engaged/busy.

Them: Oh but this is important, I need to etc etc.

Me: (not really) Oh why didn't you say, I will try one of our magic numbers.

On an entirely different subject, really looking forward to the weekend. Saturday night I am going to the theatre. My friend gets cheap deals. We rarely pay more than £5.50. I think it is a whodunnit.

Sunday we are having a Halloween party. Or as near 5 perfectly respectable middle aged women come to the sort of thing! Yes tea will be drunk, I think the hostess is cooking salmon, there will be nibbles and a horror film though most of my friends prefer 'lite' horror. I am the only blood thirsty one!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/10/2022 07:37

Oh yes, enjoyable Halloween to those that celebrate! 🕷
Though marketing tries very hard to provide us with orange plastic decorations and pumpkins are in season. The feast has not taken root.
But I miss all souls and all saints (Allerheiligen und Allerseelen), living in a non catholic region.

HelenaJustina · 28/10/2022 10:43

I wish it hadn’t taken root here Prok I absolutely refuse to engage with it in any way. This was easier when DC were younger and didn’t have opinions if their own but now they are almost all ‘too old’ to go trick-or-treating. The village WhatsApp group goes beserk if anyone over the age of about 13 ventures out, unless they have a much smaller sibling in tow DC4 has never been so popular with the older ones
I’ll go to Mass on All Saints as it is a Holy Day of Obligation.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/10/2022 11:50

We traditionally prepare our graves for winter and put colourful lights on the graves for the feasts in addition to the eternal light (Ewiglicht).
But only in catholic regions (home).
As our cemeteries look like parks with old trees, wildlife etc. they are lovely places for quiet walks.

Lemonsandlemonade · 28/10/2022 20:26

Hi all,

I am just catching up. Ready for half term it was a super long half term.

Have to be honest am not a huge Halloween fan. I was bought up not to celebrate it so never really bother.

That said we took the children ( in work) to the local care home in their Halloween costumes. Some of the residents really loved it and it was great seeing the children engage with the older generation.

MissC Hope the chat with your DD goes ok.

MissConductUS · 29/10/2022 11:53

We've never had kids come by for Halloween. Our road is too busy, and the houses are too far apart to make it worthwhile.

Lemons, the call with DD went better than I thought it would. She understood our point of view and said she would let us know when she was coming home so that she could spend time with us. She had just gotten her covid booster and was feeling a bit poorly. I think that DH told her how upset I was about it all. He and I will probably drive up together to pick her up at uni on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.

Lemonsandlemonade · 29/10/2022 17:04

Glad she took it well MissC.

I think DS is coming down with something he is very Cwtchy and off his food.

RhubarbFairy · 29/10/2022 17:41

Glad it went okay MissC.

Ooooh Lemons, you're in Wales then? Sorry to hear DS isn't feeling well, but enjoy the cwtches.

We have my SIL and nephew staying with us. It's lovely to see them but embarrassing when my DC won't stop bickering. My SIL is lovely and doesn't judge, but man alive these kids are driving me bonkers. To add to the madness, DS1 will have his best friend sleep over tonight, though SIL and DN will head home around the time he arrives. We've had a lovely day at the local park and they're now curled up together watching a movie and peace reigns.

DH is on his jollies for the weekend in Budapest with some friends. I've had periodic photo updates. DH managed to injure himself last night by getting into a fight with a door. He sent me a photo of his dented forehead. He's not one for injuring himself normally.

Lemonsandlemonade · 16/10/2022 20:52

A photo to add to the autumnal pictures. Took this today on walk with my DS.

In boring news my cough is continuing into third week.

That’s beautiful! Is it the Elan dam?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/10/2022 20:25

I quite like Halloween! 😊 I love giving out candy to the kiddies and think it's especially fun when the parents that bring them around dress up, too. I don't mind older kids trick or treating either because I think they need to be kids for as long as possible and I always enjoy asking about their costumes and giving them compliments, telling the to have fun and to be careful. I often make ginger cookies to offer to parents, but offer them candy, too. It's not a huge effort because we only
get about a dozen knocks to the door. And I always thank everyone for stopping by. I guess I feel like it's just a few hours of being able to offer hospitality and cheer to some neighbours. That's just my perspective and I respect those who feel otherwise. 😊

It's currently raining so I'm glad for the peek of sun yesterday and being able to take DC on the Halloween train. Dressed DC in the dragon Halloween costume I bought early on to make it an extra special afternoon.

Still looking for a new washing machine and considering splurging on the Miele, as recommended here, but also wondering about having a technician attend to clean the machine and replace the gasket which I' sure is possible.

It was a dear friend's 75th birthday yesterday and I'm trying to decide between a fancy afternoon tea out, or making a special lunch at my place.

Lemonsandlemonade · 29/10/2022 20:57

Rhubarb yes I am. I love Wales. Hope your DH is ok after his incident with the door!

mumtobaby that is a nice perspective to have.

Coffee yeah it is. I love visiting there. I avoid there in the summer as it’s too busy but autumn and winter it’s much nicer especially early morning. Not so many people know of the Elan Valley?

mathanxiety · 30/10/2022 23:15

The neighbourhood is looking more and more spooky as the days go by. The candy sections of local supermarkets are completely denuded. I don't think much learning will be accomplished in schools tomorrow. Official trick or treat hours are 4-8 and even though it's supposed to be showery, temps will be mild.

We have the All Saints and All Souls Masses coming up - always jam packed where I live as congregants are invited to place photos of deceased loved ones on the side altars and the organist and choirs go all out.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 31/10/2022 13:40

Today some Länder celebrate Reformation day and tomorrow some Länder celebrate All Saints as official non work / shops are closed etc days.
Berlin, of course, is not one of them.

mathanxiety · 31/10/2022 17:11

The morning barely dawned thanks to a thick fog. All the local elementary schools allowed children to wear their costumes to school. There was a steady shuffling of cats, ninjas, witches, grim reapers, a couple of Dorothys with little red shoes, and assorted Star Wars characters past my home before 8.

Silkierabbit · 31/10/2022 17:30

Hi everyone from the Maldives. Having a lovely time, got ba flight out and lucky let us on as we were very late. DH kept saying we did not need to leave early. We arrived 30 mins before flight took off and luckily plane late too. Good flight watched Peter Rabbit 2 and listened to abba then got seaplane and speedboat to hotel. Beautiful beaches and sea went kayaking yesterday in pool and swimming in sea today been swimming again in sea and pool and nice meals. We have AI.

Hope the chemo is going ok Prok and does not make you too ill

DS is still in hospital no sign of a release but trying to get asd diagnosis with Great Ormand Street and already have letter from psychiatrist saying he is asd. Am going to get them to try lorazepam with me at hospital as hospital have not been able to get him to take any so I asked if could try and said yes.

DD is volunteering at hospital and studies and job going well. Floof is very cuddly and getting round.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 31/10/2022 17:42

Silkie Oh, what great news!!!

They have postponed my 3rd round until Thurday, when they will give me a booster for my blood count. Work has send another letter with a calorie voucher - they really want to make sure I do not loose weight.
I plan to bake their favourite Weihnachtskekse.

Silkierabbit · 31/10/2022 17:47

Glad work are looking after you Prok. Sorry it’s postponed though sometimes I was glad of the gaps.

MissConductUS · 31/10/2022 19:20

Math, I don't think our schools allow costumes today. The ones I drove past as they waited for the bus were all wearing normal clothes. The trick-or-treaters will have nice weather tonight.

Silkie, your pictures are fabulous, what a lovely place! I'm glad you were able to get away. Has your DS had lorazepam before?

Prok, I'm glad you're getting more time to rest and recuperate between rounds. Try to eat as much as you can.

MIL has moved to Boston. DH chatted with her by phone in the afternoon as she was having dinner with some family in the area and wouldn't have been in her new flat at 5:00 when we do the weekly zoom call. She likes the new flat, but still has a lot of unpacking to do. It's still a bit of a shock that she's no longer local.

We did Zoom with DD. DS is sad that she won't be with us on Thanksgiving. DH and I are a bit sad about it too, but we will have her home for the Christmas holidays.

Lemonsandlemonade · 31/10/2022 21:28

Silkie what beautiful pictures and all round news hope things are turning a corner for your DS.

Glad move went ok MissC

Glad you get rest time Prok. Sending you continued good vibes.

Took DS to a Halloween party yesterday he loved it. It was in a village hall and far too busy for me.

It has rained and rained here.

mathanxiety · 31/10/2022 21:51

I am off to pick up DD3 from the train, hoping not to run over any trick or treaters on the way...

sueelleker · 01/11/2022 08:54

Very windy night. I looked out of the landing window this morning, and discovered one of my garden arches had blown down! Smashed a plastic hanging basket. The dogs were very puzzled by it.

Silkierabbit · 01/11/2022 10:34

Glad you will have MIL for Christmas MissC current hospital have given no meds at all as ds refused then first hospital force medicated the few days there but we don’t now what. We know 1 sedative no effect then 2 sedative sent to sleep then prescription for rispiridone but not sure if that was forced or he never took. Don’t know what sedative.

Glad your ds had a good party lemons

swimming and pedalo today and beach and saw a fruit bat.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/11/2022 11:33

That beach foto reminds me of the day when iI was excluded from an autogenic training session for giggling. They wanted me to imagine just such a scene to relax me. Did not work, I do not function in heat. 😀
Warmish and grey here, and no rain.

We will feed NDN cats for a few days.
