I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Here is the link to the prior thread:

Apologies that the prior thread filled up before I could create this one. Hopefully everyone will find it. Lurkers are of course welcome to unlurk.

Hi Lemons, thanks for stopping by. How are you and your family feeling?

KissThaRain · 25/06/2022 22:23

I hoovered the front room at 7:55pm this evening. Watched one and a half episodes of this weeks Corrie, got bored of Gail and Audrey, and Sally and Tim’s sex life waffling on so I deleted the rest of the weeks without watching them. How dull is Aggie. Yawn

Plastichanger · 25/06/2022 22:47

Prok the hard bits in raspberries = pips? I like the pips and bits of fruit in my jam - not a fan of the jam (conserve?) they make after sieving after sieving out all the crunchy bits and the skin on the fruit.

The flowers look lovely, Miss.

I do hope Dr and Sue are ok.

MissConductUS · 25/06/2022 23:45

Welcome, @KissThaRain and thanks for sharing your soap opera news. I have to admit that it took a bit of googling to determine what Corrie is. It's never aired in the US, which is surprising since we get a lot of British TV programming here.

Prok, I would call them raspberry seeds, and I like them left in the jam.

Thanks, Plasti. I'm quite pleased with the garden this year.

The men are grilling burgers on the brand new Weber. We're having mac & cheese and steamed corn on the cob as sides. I'm going to guess you don't eat corn on the cob in the UK.

We do, MissC, but probably not as much as you do over there, as it’s not grown so readily as a major crop, I don’t think. Having said that, people do grow it quite commonly in their own gardens - I have some on the go this year and we enjoy it. And it’s always available for sale in the summer.

I was in Silkie’s part of the world today and had a nice afternoon in Cambridge. The lawn in front of Kings College has been transformed into a wildflower meadow for several years, and very nice it looks, too. Also, there was a lot of punting activity, some more skilled than others…!

@Silkierabbit , I did some searching in the PubMed research database and found this:

Fucoxanthin Is a Potential Therapeutic Agent for the Treatment of Breast Cancer

and there's a lot of related research

Greetings!
Having a quiet weekend here thanks to heavy showers all day and the necessity of finding the passwords to all the apps I had on my old phone and re-logging in on my new one which I had to get thanks to 5G incompatibility of the old phone. Sad to change to the new one - the old one had a wrist flick flashlight widget which was extremely handy, and the phone has a lot of life in it. I may still use it for an alarm clock because I like the alarm sound I had on it.

I went to the evening session at my local public pool on Friday and was surprised to see a duck alight into the water and paddle around, quacking at the swimmers. The children in the pool were tremendously excited. The duck preferred the quiet of the deep end and the diving well. I took some photos with my new phone but now I can't figure out where they are.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 26/06/2022 06:54

I do not really care about pips in jam, but DH does not like them, so he makes 'high fruit content no pips' marmelade to his liking.

I could kick myself:
I use a 7-shaped pillow for my neck and lower back - last night I changed it for an ordinary one thinking it would be cooler - now I have back pain.
I dismanteled a number of borrage plants after the birds had finished with them not using gloves - now I have a itching rash on my hands
I washed my hair and forgot to rinse it, only noticed because the towel made a funny noise.
I think I'll sit down quietly somewhere.

Plastichanger · 26/06/2022 06:59

I love corn on the cob and the supermarkets here stock them for a few months a year. I put some spray oil on them and cook in the airfryer. Traditionally, our family used to eat them grilled rather than boiled. All sweetcorn is delicious to me.

i have been awake since 5.30am and am a bit cross about being so awake - perhaps time to take up my GP’s offer to put me on HRT.

IWanderedLonely · 26/06/2022 09:54

I'm still in bed having slept for 10 hours. Don't want to get up and do chores.
But I'm hoping DH, who went out at 8 for a run ( last year I'd have gone with him) might return with a coffeeBrew.

Lemonsandlemonade · 26/06/2022 15:51

Oh no prok I’m sorry your hand is itchy hope it’s better soon.

I picked up some free house plants today for work. Trying to create a more Hygge environment.

Lovely pics Hilda

Plastichanger · 26/06/2022 17:13

Prok that sounds painful both, the back pain and rash - have you taken any antihistamine or other sting/rash relief medication?

Silkierabbit · 26/06/2022 17:29

Thanks MissC for the fucoxanthin recommendation, will try and get hold of some.

Lovely pictures Hilda love the backs in Cambridge

Plastic Hope you can find a way to get more sleep.

Lemons hope you all feel better soon.

Hope you got that coffee Iwandered

Welcome Kiss Long time since I watched Corrie, about 20 years.

Lovely to have a duck swimming Math Had something similar once think it was a goose which came in the outdoor pool with me, just me and him Grin

Had Sunday lunch today and an ice cream and DH is off buying fudge. Last chemo 9.30am, so glad to get rid of that.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 26/06/2022 17:49

Thank you all for asking - I have a cream (?) for my hands that helps somewhat. Next time I wear gardening gloves. The back is better and the seven is back in my bed. I usually try and think before I do stuff.

They predict 35°C and rain for tomorrow. Everybody apart from me can stay home and not work. I must go in: open plan office, tarred flat roof and windows on both sides.

MissConductUS · 26/06/2022 18:35

Beautiful pictures Hilda. I will have to put Cambridge on my list of places to visit when I travel to the UK someday.

Math, your rain is arriving here tomorrow. It's really hot here today, about 33C.

Prok, can you get a cream with hydrocortisone at the chemist? That's the best over the counter treatment we have here for itching.

We had a nice time picking raspberries this morning. It was a little early I think, as we really had to hunt for the ripe ones. They had one row of black raspberries, so we got some of those too. Sadly, there was no apple caramel bread at the farm store, but they did have blueberry bread, so that was something.

DH and DS have gone to the movies and I will probably have a nap.

Me and the lady at the ice cream shop had a misunderstanding today. I asked for chocolate and caramel flavour in a cup and ended up with two scoops of chocolate in a cone and I didn’t have the heart to say that was wrong. That’s my mundane event for the day.

The event was to celebrate loosing 4lbs at Slimming World weigh in yesterday 🤣🤣🤣

MissConductUS · 26/06/2022 19:07

Welcome, @ChocolatemilkBertie and thanks for sharing your ice cream news. And congratulations on your weight loss achievement!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 26/06/2022 19:44

Exactly miss - luckily I had the proper cream in our medicine cabinet.

halfpasteleven · 26/06/2022 23:30

The wait for the salted apple caramel cake goes on!
Had a very quiet weekend (rotten period pains and headache) and very unsettled weather.
Hoping for some sun and no more cramps for the week.
Good luck tomorrow Silkie.

Lemonsandlemonade · 27/06/2022 06:32

Joy of joys just been violently sick but now feel loads better. I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve been sick in my life. Not counting morning sickness.

Is it your last chemo today Silkie?

well done chocolate on your weight loss keep going!

HelenaJustina · 27/06/2022 06:40

Thank goodness I found you all again!

Got back late last night from Liverpool (3+hrs drive) where DC3 had been competing. Drove up there on Saturday afternoon, it’s been a mad couple of days and this week at work will be hellish. The no mid-week-gin rule may be broken this week.

Silkierabbit · 27/06/2022 07:25

Sorry you have been so sick Lemons hope its a one off and you will be better soon.

Yes it is last 12th weekly chemo today at 9.30am start so now I am drinking a lot as it helps with the veins for a cannula. I have had a large milky coffee, now on a tea. And had some Eurostar Lotus biscuits.

Decided we will have a takeaway this week to celebrate end of chemonand end of gcses though DD has already had one takeaway for GCSE end anyway. Its largely for DS so he takes in chemo is over. DD wants another Papa Johns pizza takeaway which is fine though I did feel a bit sick after last one, think chemo plus heavy use of ranch sauce. Then back to trying to get some education for ds, a week of absolutely nothing last week. I sent a couple more ranty emails, I am quite ranty on steroids and chemo being half alcohol. The LA said the school were rejecting all support help last week which does not sound good, think he will end up with no school and me teaching him as we cannot get a school. He really wants his school. Feel so sorry for him, he is mute and terrified by what is going on at school but no other state school will take so can only force in. Shortage of school places in his year.

Cornwall in just over a wèek.

Blueberry bread sounds nice MissC

echt · 27/06/2022 07:28

I assembled an IKEA desk for the spare bedroom. Not too horribly desk-like and makes a good surface for "stuff" for visitors.

www.ikea.com/au/en/p/lillasen-desk-bamboo-60278288/

MissConductUS · 27/06/2022 16:14

Welcome, @echt and thanks for sharing your home furnishings news. I like that desk, it doesn't look like it was too difficult to put together. When he ordered his new grill last week DH paid extra to have someone come to the house to assemble it. I think in the case of the grill, it was probably money well spent.

Lemons, are you still feeling poorly from covid, or do you think this was something new?

Helena, I'm so glad you found us. I feel terrible that I let the last thread fill up before I could start this one and post the link.

I hope your final chemo treatment went okay Silkie. Ranch dressing on pizza is barbaric.

HelenaJustina · 27/06/2022 18:08

Hope today went well silkie many congratulations on completing the course!

I’ve had an un-dull day but in the spirit of the thread am now sitting outside DC3’s swimming lesson procrastinating on Mumsnet so I don’t have to go for a run

hope you are recovered lemons?
