I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Here is the link to the prior thread:

Apologies that the prior thread filled up before I could create this one. Hopefully everyone will find it. Lurkers are of course welcome to unlurk.

Lemons, I see the irony too, but they still love them.

Mumtobe, we haven't cut our lawn in weeks. There's been lots of rain, so it is due again. DH and DS will probably cut it today.

Back home, less weak than last time.
The head has been shaved and I feel better for it.
On our way home we saw "baby swans" you know those that are still grey.

I ended up getting neither covid nor flu shots as despite having an appointment for 2:15 and gettig to Walgreens at 2:00, DD3 and I were still sitting waiting at 3:10, and DD had another appointment at 3:30, so we got our vaccine cards back and left.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/10/2022 08:02

Sue What a pretty name. Even for the youngster who hissed at me for not being fast enough with the food. His mum came and had a word with him. Swan parenting in action. 😀
And: cat picture of the new arrival in DN home.

Glad you’re home and this latest round of treatment is over, Prok (I wrote a whole post a couple of days ago wishing you good luck, posted it, and weirdly it just disappeared into the ether 🤷‍♀️).

I have to do another 200-mile drive today. Not feeling much enthusiasm for the prospect at the moment.

Silkierabbit · 09/10/2022 13:48

Glad you are back home Prok and hope side effects aren't too bad.

Mr Floof has been so cuddly lying on my face purring away last 2 nights. DH was worried as he licked my armpit that my cancer has spread but I think was just Floof being silly. DH is insisting I phone oncologist and say my cat knows my cancer has spread. 😂

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/10/2022 15:36

I think Fluff just liked the taste. Cats are weird.

HelenaJustina · 09/10/2022 18:12

Glad you are home Prok and not feeling as bad, long may it continue.

I offered to take DC4 to swim training this evening, because I get to sit in the car for two hours with my book.

MissConductUS · 09/10/2022 18:48

Math, my experience with Walgreens has been rubbish. We get our jabs at CVS and there's never been the slightest problem. If you have a CVS near you I'd book with them.

Prok, what is the cat's name? He looks like my ginger boy. I'm glad you're back on break from chemo. I have my every 8-week infusion at the hospital tomorrow.

Hilda, I hope your drive went okay. 200 miles is a long way in the car. That's New York to Boston for me.

Helena, two hours in the car is a nice break. I'd put the seat back and have a nap.

My MIL is moving to a care home at the end of the month, so DS and DH drove over, helped her with packing, and brought back a small 1920's style glass cocktail cabinet and a few other things. The care home she is moving to is in the Boston area, so we may be back to doing that drive in the future.

DS got back just in time to watch an American football game being played in London - Tottenham Statium if I heard correctly. The New York Giants won. The game was sold out, so there must be some interest in American football in the UK.

Miss After a lengthy family Whatsapp discussion, she settled on Grizu.
That is a name of a well known dragon, but she does not care.
I quoted TS Eliot at her, but no!

Prok The naming of cats is a difficult matter. I like Grizu.

That's a beautiful picture. Is that a crop, alfalfa or hops perhaps?

Lemonsandlemonade · 09/10/2022 20:51

Silkie Cats really are a strange breed I have thought before now if cats could talk what would they say!

Prok what a beautiful picture. Hope you’re doing ok.

MissC is the care home far from where you live? Is your MIL ok with moving to one?

American Football does have a growing following here in the Uk. I would love to understand the rules etc ! The games seem to vary length?

Took DS swimming today the water was incredibly cold fine if you are swimming but I do a lot of holding and getting him to kick etc so 35 mins was long enough for me. The pool is trying to save money by lowering the water temperature .

MissConductUS · 09/10/2022 21:54

Lemons, she's looking forward to it. She's given up driving and I think she struggles a bit to do her own shopping and cooking. She's currently about 45 minutes away, but she'll be much further after the move. She's found a lovely place in the Boston area where my SIL and her grandson and great-grandchildren live. It's 3.5 to 4 hours away, so we probably won't see her in person much anymore. We'll still see her on Zoom every week, as we've done since the pandemic.

An American football game in total can be two to three hours. The ball is in play for 60 minutes, but a play will often be less than a minute, so there's loads of starting and stopping. And there's a break at half time, usually with entertainment. It's really not my cup of tea. As the evidence of long term concussion injuries mounts, fewer parents are allowing their sons to play it in high school, so I think it may be in long term decline.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 10/10/2022 09:28

Miss definitely not hops, but it could be anything from simple grazing stuff to kale (staple traditional winter crop), or anything else.
They did not check, I asked them.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/10/2022 16:36

It's supposed to be windy today. I'm waiting.

Lemonsandlemonade · 10/10/2022 17:54

American Football sounds tedious. Much like Rugby there is much concern re the affect on the brain.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 10/10/2022 18:54

We had the heating on for 2 hours in all the rooms people work in. 2,3 m3 gas usage.
But DD had 14c in her room.

HelenaJustina · 10/10/2022 19:47

We are still standing firm on the heating front and haven’t turned it on yet. Utilising solar gain where possible is helping and the DC are wearing oodies in the evenings I suspect they may be getting me one for Christmas I think we can make it to half term before we crack/freeze.

The book stop was lovely Miss though I had to stop when it got dark. I’m currently sitting outside a Confirmation preparation class.

MissConductUS · 10/10/2022 20:09

Lemons, it is a bit tedious. I hope it's on the way out, personally. The number of injuries in high school and college games is shocking as well.

We've had the heating on a fair bit so far. It was 2 degrees C overnight on Saturday, so there was not much choice. We don't keep it up very high though and have a small electric heater in the bathroom. I hate getting out of the shower in a cold bathroom. We've already bought a year's worth of propane, so at least we don't have to worry about where the price is going.

Helena, have you tried audio books? I listen to a lot of podcasts these days.

HelenaJustina · 10/10/2022 20:39

I love a good podcast. Some of the wait I went for a run and listened to ‘Now you’re asking’ with Marian Keyes and Tara Flynn. I can highly recommend it!

MissConductUS · 10/10/2022 21:01

Helena, I've just watched a video clip of them answering questions like "who's the grumpy one, who smells best" etc. They're quite charming and funny. I can't place Marianas accent.

She's Irish Miss. From Co Clare originally, now living in Dublin.

Lemonsandlemonade · 10/10/2022 21:07

I had a frozen windscreen this morning before work.

our thermostat is broken so we can’t turn the heating up and it’s set at 5 degrees 😳.

took the child we have on respite care to his swimming session. People commenting on him (usually negatively) gets on my goat. Happens most sessions. Said child is an amazing swimmer but gets tired after 35 mins of solid swimming.

Had McDonald’s which was not enjoyable have had one a week for three weeks so am fed up of it now.

MissConductUS · 10/10/2022 21:10

That was what I suspected, but it seemed quite mild for an Irish accent. Most Irish immigrants in New York have a much stronger accent. I thought it was quite funny when she made fun of the whole proper ritual for making tea correctly.

I'll add it to my playlist.
