Deck hope your daughter is improving
Silkies Flowers again. Lovely flood picture
Prok hope you have a restful weekend.
I'm off work today, needed to babysit. Just eating muesli and enjoying the peace before the chaos begins!

HelenaJustina · 30/09/2022 17:31

Hurrah for the end of the week. Well done all of us for making it through. It’s chucking it down here and I’m sitting in a car park waiting to pick up DC4 from football. They will be drenched.

Silkierabbit · 30/09/2022 18:37

Floof is being a desk accessory and is loving the fact we are having industrial quantities of Quality Street. He gets super excited each wrapper. He can also now jump 6 foot to top of wardrobe in 1 go.

Hope you are feeling OK Prok and glad your DB is there to help.

We finally managed after 2 weeks to get hospital to back down and let us see DS on the ward. He was in catatonia and worst ever seen him but at least could be with him for 45 mins and explain things. Am going to Tribunal to try and get him out but he has to represent himself so don't rate our chances with a mute child. His room there was clean but zero to do, no TV, minimal WiFi, like a prison. And they are just keeping him to observe him but every day has been the same for 2 weeks and his only activity there is eating. Also pleaded with LA about schools as will be a very long process to get him one and he will be a long time with no school after this as I don't want awful school back, they have not even asked how he is. Made a bit of progress with LA. And went on FB group about catatonia and got some tips there. The only thing is there is a massive bed shortage so they might just cave. SS have vanished but appear just to be trying to offer help, guy was lovely but not the most intelligent of men.

Started raining here.

Silkie, I feel so enraged on your behalf. HOW can DS represent himself, fgs, he’s a school-age child, is he not? No wonder the poor boy is catatonic, he’s stuck in a bare room without his family and everything he knows. Oh, it’s so awful.

Biggest of hugs for you, you must and will win through.

MissConductUS · 30/09/2022 20:21

Silkie, I am so sorry that you and your son have been treated so terribly in this process. Is it akinetic catatonia that he's been diagnosed with? Have they done anything to try to treat it, or are they just observing him?

Not much new here. I think DS has given up on his plans to go to Boston this weekend due to the extensive rain that is forecast. My MIL will be moving to a care home later this fall, so we may go over to her flat and help her get organized. There is loads of stuff she wants us to take that we don't have room for, but we will probably take a few things just to keep the peace.

Silkie Regarding your DS, I am absolutely speechless. I dare not imagine this happening to my DS or DN.

DH is in Budapest having a good time, DD insists in taking my temp every couple of hours (day7-10). I spend lots of time in bed reading, and crotcheting because it is 16c inside.

mathanxiety · 01/10/2022 06:39

Silkies it's like something from Kafka. Horrible.

I'll be taking in the hummingbird feeder this weekend and stowing it away for the winter. It's been a while since I saw any of my little hovering visitors.

I've taken in some of my plants from the deck because nights have started to be quite chilly. The rest should come in next week some time.

Lemonsandlemonade · 01/10/2022 18:05

Oh Silkie I dunno what to say only that we are here for you. Sending you continued strength.

Prok - glad your DH having a good time. I wish I could crochet are you crocheting anything in particular?

Had my DS feet measured in a different shop, as I wasn’t happy with the Clarks shop I went to as the person measuring measured and said DS was about a size five. As it happens his feet are actually smaller than a five.

Had steak and roasted tomatoes potato things and onion rings for tea. Early so we could eat with DS.

MissConductUS · 01/10/2022 18:44

DS got his first paycheck yesterday. He was pretty chuffed about that.

I changed the Brita filter and washed out the pitcher. That was my last filter, so I've put them on my Amazon subscribe and save list. We've had some much needed rain from the remnants of hurricane Ian, but it's passed through faster than expected.

Lemon I got 900g of grey acrylic wool in a sale and started on a simple blanket some months ago. It is getting large and keeps me warm while working.

The proper wool I keep for knitting.

Lemonsandlemonade · 01/10/2022 21:34

Missconduct am I right in thinking that water in lots of the USA is hard water and this is why tea tastes different from Uk in US.

Wow Prok am impressed maybe one day I willl try and learn.

halfpasteleven · 01/10/2022 22:36

Silkie, I just don't have the words to convey how bloody angry I am on you and your DSs behalf.
What kind of school treats a child like this?

Keep going, keep fighting, keep believing in your darling DS. Here for you as always.

Did the grocery shopping today. Went to get a trolley outside but they were all stuck together. Tried to get one inside and the same thing happened. Just as I was on the point of giving up a lady came to return her trolley so I gave her the coin and she gave me her trolley. Such a relief as I had toddler DD with me and really needed the trolley as much for her as for the groceries.

Silkierabbit · 01/10/2022 23:24

Thanks for all the lovely kind messages. We just went to see DS again today (3.5 hours in car plus about an hour with him) but sadly was still in catatonia - he reacted a bit when I sang and got some pulled faces and DH thought he saw a smile. I was talking and talking as he is silent and then I sang some songs from when he was younger, the ones that were done on holidays when we went to the First Choice Holiday Villages he used to dance to. The nurse thought it was a good sign he had reacted. Now I will need to learn the words to the Big Fish Little Fish cardboard box song for tomorrow. He will probably come out of it and be grumpy with my singing and dancing.

They haven't said what type of catatonia but the symptoms match that type MissC At the moment they are not treating and just observing and apparently they do this for 4 to 6 weeks, no idea why they need such a long observation period when every day is the same, well apart from first week when he was not eating there. He is by far the worst ever seen him so want him home. He is just in a room with a bed and a bathroom with no door and that is pretty much it they bring him food like NHS type food, dinner was 2 slices of white bread with ham, a packet of crisps and a drink. Not sure how they think people will get better with that programme. In the week they try to make the children study but he is not well enough for that. No TV, no music, no phones, no chargers and a nurse permanently guarding the door. At least we can see him now.

We will go down again tomorrow and will stay at a hotel with a swimming pool so can do some swimming. Wish could bring him out and take him to the beach or somewhere.

Silkierabbit · 01/10/2022 23:29

Thanks Half Glad you got a trolley.

Thanks Lemons That sounds a lovely dinner.

Thanks Hilda

Thanks MissC Glad your DS got his first pay check. DD loves having the money now.

Thanks Math

Thanks Prok Hope you are feeling OK and can take it easy.

In more cheerful news Floof has been playing ball with Quality Street wrappers, and also sitting on DDs A level chemistry homework.

In dull news I did my tax return for the last year, glad to have that done.

Missconduct am I right in thinking that water in lots of the USA is hard water and this is why tea tastes different from Uk in US.

Wow Prok am impressed maybe one day I willl try and learn.

It varies by area. Our water is just mildly hard. We do have a 20 liter water cooler in the kitchen. The bottles are filled with purified water (by reverse osmosis, I'd imagine) that's a little softer. We use that to refill our water bottles and I make coffee and tea with water from the Brita pitcher. I think our tea and coffee tastes lovely. Having never been to the UK for tea, I can't compare the two.

Lemons, have you been to the US and had tea here? Our teas are mostly British brands (Lipton, Tetley, Twinings, etc.), but perhaps they make a different blend of teas for the US market.

OP posts:
mathanxiety · 02/10/2022 05:51

We have hard water here. I use 'Tetley British Blend' tea, which I prefer to Barry's Tea (too strong imo). I have a huge collection of herbal and flavoured teas too, thanks to several people having the same idea for Christmas gifts for me for a couple of years.

I went out for a walk tonight, forgetting it was Homecoming at the local high school. There were lots of little groups of revelers wandering around. They all looked about eleven. I noticed they've started to allow the girls to wear sneakers with their dresses.

Lemonsandlemonade · 02/10/2022 15:01

MissC I haven’t been to the US unfortunately I would love to go though one day. I remember reading something about the tea/water thing.

math Not sure I like herbal tea but maybe haven’t found the right flavour?

HelenaJustina · 02/10/2022 19:37

The only herbal teas I like are mint based ones. I have never yet found another which lives up to the smell (which promises much, right before the dishwater taste kicks in).

I cut the grass today.

IWanderedLonely · 02/10/2022 21:27

Our decorating is nearly finished. DH takes a bit of prodding to get started, but once he does he just keeps going. We've changed the ceiling from burgundy to white, took 4 coats of paint. When I say we, I made lots of cups of tea.
Now just have to put everything back.

mathanxiety · 03/10/2022 20:29

I found a good deal of fur in the bathtub this morning and while showering I noticed someone or something had shredded the shower curtain liner. The suspect is currently curled up on the best chair.

HelenaJustina · 03/10/2022 20:55

That’s quite the palette shift Iwandered! What colour is/was the rest of the room?

Silkierabbit · 03/10/2022 21:03

I am sure the furry suspect is innocent Math Same as Mr Floof was not harrassing rabbit. We arrived back and opened front door to room rabbit is in and baby gate to keep Floof out and suddenly Floof flew across the room and over the baby gate. He was never in there I tell you. Grin

We stayed last night in a hotel by DS with swimming pool and went swimming twice - did a mile yesterday and today 1.2km. It was very good value for the Sunday night and we had a meal there together which was nice and have booked for next Sunday as well.

Saw DS twice and not in a good way there, worst ever seen him. Today had a call they wanted him to have a shower as not washed since moved there 2 weeks ago. But he takes baths and they have none and they also have no doors on their bathrooms. Anyway he climbed on top of his wardrobe (similar style to IKEA Kallax and did not look the most solid of creations) and refused to come down. Two men were then called to get him down and give him a shower and change of clothes which they did then they moved him to a higher security room for climbing on wardrobe, this one has 24/7 CCTV and a man next door watching in. He will hate that and he was taken in and immediately took all his clothes off except boxer shorts and threw them on floor. They then washed those and old clothes and put them back but he is not a happy bear. Plus is new room has a TV and old one didn't. He is also apparently flushing his care plan down the toilet each time it is given to him, as well as some food but apparently eating well but bin refusing. No idea how long this will go on as he won't back down and they appear to be waiting for him to cooperate.

Silkierabbit · 03/10/2022 21:04

Well done on the painting Iwandered I do love burgundy but not for a ceiling.

IWanderedLonely · 04/10/2022 17:50

Silkies your poor boy, I hope & pray you can get him back home soon.

Helena It's a Victorian house with really high celings & a cream cornice. So it looked old-fashioned "vintage". Walls were very pale sage green & 1 wall papered. Now all various shades of white/cream except for wooden picture rail. Looking for a new rug now, but horrified at the prices.
I am back to needing 10 hours sleep, not good when I have to get up for work.

Lemonsandlemonade · 04/10/2022 18:26

Gosh Silkie I’m sorry your family is going through be this.
