I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Apologies that the prior thread filled up before I could create this one. Hopefully everyone will find it. Lurkers are of course welcome to unlurk.

Now that it's fall, I naturally think of Thanksgiving, Iwandered. I guess that's what put me on that train of thought. Thanksgiving is such a lovely holiday, with a focus on thankfulness and not gift giving or wild partying like Christmas and New Year.

I've been told that I can't make a roast dinner with my holiday mashed potatoes, so those are now on the menu. I'll have to stop at the supermarket tomorrow after church for potatoes, sour cream and cream cheese.

Thank you Miss!
I must admit I thought it was going to be a revelation, when in fact it was exactly what I would have said a dinner roll was if you had asked me to guess.......
And I agree about things to be thankful for. Went for a walk this morning along the canal in beautiful autumn weather, then breakfast in a lovely cafe and our team narrowly won their match this afternoon.

HildaTablet · 25/09/2022 10:02

Good to hear you’re home, Prok, and that you have a bit of a break now. I hope the fuzziness subsides, but take it easy.

We're without our car at the moment, as the clutch decided to lock up just as DH was driving it back into our garage, having dropped me off somewhere. That was a bit of luck as we've been doing a lot of very long motorway journeys recently and I dread to think what might have happened if we'd been on the M1 or something. It’s at the repairers now but they’ve announced that they can’t work out what the problem is, as it seems to be working now. Even more annoyingly, it had just been serviced and had needed some expensive additional work, which they'd finished literally a few days before this happened. Ugh.

Anyway, in an attempt to cheer ourselves up, we spent yet more money yesterday by buying a very pleasing Scandi-style white lampshade which we kept passing in the window of a local vintage shop. It wasn’t very expensive so I’m determined not to be guilty.

I'm glad your leg's feeling better, MissC.

Silkie, thinking of you and yours.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/09/2022 10:06

It is surprising how difficult simple things like taking a shower can become.
And how badly designed bathrooms are, too much looks and comfort too little practicality.
The weather is quite nice and I can hear the sound of the marathon being run around the corner.

HelenaJustina · 25/09/2022 13:16

I’m roasting a chicken today, with roast potatoes, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and gravy (no dinner rolls though)

Lemonsandlemonade · 25/09/2022 20:44

The recipe for the dinner rolls for some reason remind me of the rolls we had in Sicily which had ice cream in them.

Prok I am with you in the bathroom front. My DN is disabled and it has opened my eyes to the practicalities of bathrooms.

sorry about your car Hilda that is a real pain.

DH spent the day clearing out outside before the bad weather is due tomorrow. He put together a sand out for DS but it’s missing a piece for the frame! DS has chicken pox and I have a very busy work week next week kicking off with a meeting with a disgruntled parent followed by a macmillan coffee afternoon. (Macmillan are a charity who support families/people with cancer in a range of ways) finishing with a event to promote where I work.

Lemonsandlemonade · 25/09/2022 20:48

I should add DS is ok within himself and if he wasn’t I wouldn’t be in work.

MissConductUS · 25/09/2022 21:55

Helena, how was your chicken?

Mine needs another hour or so in the oven. I've made the holiday mashed potatoes. The beans still need preparation. I bought the dinner rolls from the bakery at the posh Italian supermarket, so I just need to pop those in the oven.

Lemons, ice cream improves almost everything. We have a similar charity here called the American Cancer Society.

It was beautiful Miss if I say so myself. It was cooked in the tiny kitchen of my very elderly grandparents and fed them me and my Dad. They were so appreciative and grateful, it was a bit humbling. I would do it more often if they lived a bit closer (3hrs in the car is a long way to go for lunch)

Plastichanger · 26/09/2022 15:14

How are you feeling now prok? I hope the fuzziness has gone.

Dinner rolls sound lovely - with lots of butter.

I need to go to the shops but weather can’t make its mind up. Forecast say dry but actual weather is intermittently wet. Will need to just get my raincoat on and go soon.

mathanxiety · 27/09/2022 04:25

My bathroom is neither good looking nor particularly functional. It also has no heat source so I use a plug in radiator on wheels in the cold weather.

I made ground turkey chili with black beans and frozen corn on Sunday, probably enough to last us until Thursday.

I made a horrible discovery of a brown paper bag with three very mouldy ears of corn in it nestled among a group of brown bags of stuff awaiting donation to the local Goodwill (thrift store). I bought the corn in August but didn't use it all and I thought it had been thrown out a month ago. Apparently DD4 moved it when she needed counter space. I've been sneezing so hard for the last ten days I thought I'd crack a rib, and my eyes have been itchy and horrible too. Fifteen minutes after I ran to the bin with the bag of corn I had recovered.

It's chilly tonight so I brought in my hibiscus, which is on the verge of blooming again. It lasted all last winter in a sunny bay window and will hopefully get through the coming cold season indoors too. I prefer a pretty cold bedroom so will be sleeping with my window open a crack until it gets really cold.

Prok hoping the fog lifts. Flowers

Lemons wishing DS a speedy recovery and no pock marks.

Hilda hope the repair shop can get to the bottom of the car trouble.

Deckthewallswithpaintandplaydough · 27/09/2022 05:32

I am sitting next to dd. The machine next to me is beeping in sync with the other girls snoring next to us. Every 15 minutes the machine beeps five times quickly in a row and dd wakes up, screams, cries and breathes faster on the ventilator. This causes the nurse to come running in. Happens every 15 minutes.

Deckthewallswithpaintandplaydough · 27/09/2022 05:34

I should add, this has been happening every fifteen minutes since 2pm yesterday, when dd was diagnosed with sepsis.

Deckthewallswithpaintandplaydough · 27/09/2022 05:58

Oh and the nurse comes every 15 minutes and as soon as she opens the curtains to dds bed, the 5 beep beeps start and dd starts to scream and cry and breathe faster. I am beginning to fear the beep beeps. But dp sent a dog picture to me, I shall send it to you.

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 23: Calmly through the day
Lemonsandlemonade · 27/09/2022 06:00

Oh my gosh Deck I’m so sorry your poor DD has sepsis. How is she doing? Sending you good vibes and hugs.

Thanks Math. Your corn story reminds me of a story of a child I know who thought it would be funny to hide an egg in the laundry cupboard. Now after a while the stench got worse but the source couldn’t be found for about two weeks!

HelenaJustina · 27/09/2022 07:54

So sorry to hear that Deck, hope DD bounces back quickly.

I’m staffing a school residential, I have had very little sleep and not enough coffee yet to compensate. And it’s raining. Please keep me in your prayers!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/09/2022 07:57

Deck Best wishes to your daughter!

I still feel weak, walking across the flat is exhausting and I have to go out:
Next door to the GP, they offered to come round, but I refused and to the hospital to have a special bandage changed.

Wet and grey here.

Deckthewallswithpaintandplaydough · 27/09/2022 08:01

Thanks all. So instead of waking up every 15 minutes she is crying and being sick over me. So now I smell like sick, coffee, sweat and toothpaste. There is a consultant who is talking to the girl next to us, who every maybe 30 seconds blinks really hard. I am obviously very bored and tired, but dd is watching octonauts and I am listening to the creature reports……… I am hating the beep beeps

Lemonsandlemonade · 27/09/2022 22:39

Gosh Deck that sounds awful for you and your DD. Hope she has a speedy recovery.

In dull news DS has lots of spots on his bum and general area. He is in a lot of pain at nappy change time and has a temperature. He also has signs he is cutting back teeth too.

MissConductUS · 27/09/2022 23:08

Deck, I'm so sorry to hear about your DD. Has she shown any improvement since she was diagnosed yesterday? Have they given her IV antibiotics?

Plastichanger · 28/09/2022 18:14

I am sending positives vibes for a speedy recovery for both your DC, Lemons and Deck. Lemons when my DS was little and got chickenpox, I read on mumsnet how a bath with oats would be miraculously calming for his skin so off I went and bought the oats. In my stressed and sleep deprived state, I got bath and DS ready then put oats in the bath. It was a complete nightmare - getting bits of oats off a poorly and now, very tired and fed up DS took ages. It was only afterwards that I realised I was supposed to put the oats in a some muslin and tie it up so the ‘bits’ didn’t get in the bath. I still feel really guilty every time I think about it - poor DS.

Prok I hope you are ok and aren’t regretting the offer of a home visit.

In not so dull news, woke up to a flat battery in the car. I had left the internal light on overnight. Missed my exercise class this morning.

Plastichanger · 28/09/2022 19:32

Sorry, I meant that I hope you aren’t regretting declining the offer of a home visit, Prok

Silkierabbit · 29/09/2022 00:38

Sorry you are feeling weak Prok sending love and I would let gp come to you, go easy on yourself.

Sorry to hear about your child Deck must be scary having sepsis, how old are they?

Hope your LO is better too soon Lemons

Sorry not been around and a fleeting visit, DS is still sectioned in hospital and very distressed and we cannot see him still, stupid rules around covid and also now he has to move rooms and has catatonia which affects his movement and he cannot move that far. But we appear to be making some progress on change of school for after. Covid has gone, anti viral helped though had sickness from them but over now. Oncology tomorrow for Tamoxifen review and chemo radio review.

Floof is being so sweet, sleeping by my head. I put the fleece duvet on and he is very happy.

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 23: Calmly through the day
MissConductUS · 29/09/2022 00:57

Thanks for posting the picture of Mr Floof, Silkie, it's been ages since we've seen him. There's nothing like a good cat picture to lift your spirits. I'm glad you're making progress on the school issue. I can't believe it's been such a struggle.

Prok, rest, eat, keep your hydration up and let the doctor come to you. Focus on self care as much as you can.

DS is thinking about driving up to Boston this weekend, as his uni has homecoming festivities for alumni. But the hotels are very expensive, and the weather forecast isn't great. We may see some residual effects from hurricane Ian this weekend.

I managed the walk to the hospital (taxi back) and went to my gp (next door).
My DB was there and we had fun.
DH is off to Budapest but of course forgot the Pin for his mobile and had to phone from the airport.

Lovely picture of Fluff.
