I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Here is the link to the prior thread:

Apologies that the prior thread filled up before I could create this one. Hopefully everyone will find it. Lurkers are of course welcome to unlurk.

DH had a Governors meeting last night, so I organised 3DC being in 3 different locations at once. And I managed to go for a run. Looking forward to a quieter after-school period today.

MissConductUS · 13/09/2022 15:58

Hilda, I'm sorry to hear about your fall. How are you feeling today? Bruising doesn't always show right away.

Helena, were all three DC were at separate activities in the evening? That's a lot of trips for the mum taxi. I've sadly come to accept that my running days are probably over.

The sciatic pain in my leg is slowly getting better. I walked almost three miles yesterday, and it wasn't bad. It was definitely better than before the surgery.

DS is at our local airport (not one of the big NYC ones) waiting to get on his flight to Orlando. I have the flight tracker up and they predicting an on-time departure. I know it's a bit silly, but I can't help being a little nervous about him traveling alone for the first time.

Lemonsandlemonade · 13/09/2022 19:09

Sorry you had a fall Hilda feel better soon.

MissC glad your Sciatica is better after your op.

Fair Play Helena quite a busy day there!

Had hard work day very difficult child and LA gone quiet on me. Feel a total lack of support for us and for family. One very unhappy child too. Been hurt by said child today.

HildaTablet · 13/09/2022 19:17

Thanks MissC and Lemons - I got my specs wrangled back into shape by the optician, who explained that luckily the frames are titanium and basically indestructible. And I got a lucky last-minute appointment with my excellent osteopath, who gave me the once-over. Still feel pretty stupid, though.

I'm sorry you're still being so let down at work, Lemons, it sounds really miserable.

MissConductUS · 13/09/2022 21:27

DS's plane landed in Orlando on time, about two hours ago. I asked him to text me when he gets to his hotel, so I'm on pins and needles waiting for that.

I feel a bit silly to be this nervous about it. He's 22 and a very sensible young man.

It’s normal to worry Miss I wonder how parents felt before constant contact with mobile devices and tracking apps! All 3 DC were indeed at different activities. Swimming, Cubs and Confirmation class. Just gymnastics tonight!

Lemons that sounds like a child at crisis point. However much you tell yourself it’s not personal and they are communicating something, it’s difficult when you are in the firing line.

MissConductUS · 13/09/2022 22:19

I've just found out that DS texted DH when he arrived at his hotel. DH neglected to tell me until I asked. 🙄

Just catching up with the thread, and so very sorry to hear your news Prok. Sending you strong thoughts and prayers.
Glad you are recovering Miss.
Sorry to hear that school is failing DS Silkie.
Hope you can resolve work situation Lemons, it sounds miserable.
I am catching up with Bake off after a day trying to tweak my dissertation for submission next week.
RIP The Queen 😢

Lemonsandlemonade · 14/09/2022 18:20

Helena it’s a family at crisis point to be honest. I feel so helpless with this child and family.

picked DS from nursery and took him to the park. He fell of the slide was ok.

mathanxiety · 14/09/2022 22:24

Hilda hope you're ok. Any bruising?

Lemons hang in there. You are doing your utmost and regardless of the outcome tomorrow is another day. It's awful that you feel you are left to deal with it all on your own.

MissC - hope you'll have a nice, relaxed evening and that DS will organise a morning wake up call for himself in his hotel.

Today's sunrise was incredibly dramatic, with a blazing red sun surrounded by hot orange sky as a result of a lot of particulate in the air from wildfires in the western US. Maybe the sunset will be similarly vivid. I have a little cough and a tickly throat, presumably from the minute particles.

Flatmountains · 15/09/2022 00:43

I thought there was a really stinky person on the tram today. Turns out, its the city that stinks! Thank God for online newspapers. I thought I was losing the plot.

sueelleker · 15/09/2022 11:25

Booked my Covid booster. I had an email this morning, and did it on-line straight away. 10th October.

MissConductUS · 15/09/2022 14:06

Flat, why does the city stink?

Sue, great news that it's being distributed in the UK. I just felt a little tired the next day.

We had a conversation by text with DS last night and found out the following:

  • His onboarding is going well
  • it's done nothing but rain since he got there, so he's not getting much out of being in Orlando
  • there are over 1000 new hires (from all over the country) participating in the program
  • despite the large number of participants, he has his own room, and
  • they are organizing all three meals a day for everyone, and the food has been pretty good. This is high praise from DS.

It was good to connect with him, even if we didn't actually speak.

There are lots of theories. I think possibly muckspreading seems the most likely, except you wouldn't expect that to affect a huge city like Brum.

I see, I didn't realize you were a Brummie. And yes, I had to google Brum.

the council put up loads of signs before the commonwealth games talking about bham. Not sure where that comes from or how you say it

HildaTablet · 15/09/2022 19:31

Thanks math, I’m developing some lovely bruises on one leg, but otherwise OK, luckily.

I’ve also booked my Covid booster, it’s in just over a month’s time. Had a day of doing fiddly but essential chores - including a potentially-awkward telephone call I wasn’t looking forward to - and bought myself a nice-looking clematis from the garden centre which was marked down from £14 to £2.99. A bargain!

I’m also slightly fascinated by the queue for the late Queen’s lying-in-state. It’s currently almost 5 miles long. There’s a TV report on it at the moment and they’re calling it ‘a microcosm of Britishness’.

MissConductUS · 15/09/2022 21:20

Coverage of the mourning, funeral preparations, lying in state, etc. has been wall to wall here. There's a lot of love and respect for the Queen in the US. She will be missed here too.

There are thunderstorms in the forecast for Orlando tomorrow. I hope that doesn't interfere with DS's flight home.

DoctorTwo · 15/09/2022 22:29

Hilda I am slightly horrified by the thought of a 5 mile queue to walk past her coffin, it just seems like the country has become suddenly infantilised by her death. It did elicit a couple of very funny Twitter threads though.

I'm so sorry to read your diagnnosis Prok, my best wishes of course go to you and your family.

My pancreas was killing me slowly by filling my lungs with its juices. This now appears to have been fixed and hopefully I will only need a fix to my diaphragm. My consultant commented I didn't look anything like the last time he saw me, I actually resembled a human being rather than a grey husk of a chap which I apparently did. I have a CT scan next Tuesday to find out the exact problem.

MissConductUS · 16/09/2022 14:57

I'm glad to hear that you're on the mend, DoctorTwo. I can understand why you felt and looked so poorly previously. Something was really irritating your pancreas.

DS finishes his onboarding course at noon, then has a 5:00 flight home, which is scheduled to land a bit before 8:00. DH will pick him up from the airport, which is only 30 minutes away from us.

We had our first propane delivery for the fall yesterday. We use it for heating, cooking and the tumble dryer. We prepurchased enough for a year in June before the prices went up, which was fortunate.

I had to turn the heating on this morning. I left the doors to the deck open to get some fresh air in the house, and the temp dropped overnight to 7C.

Lemonsandlemonade · 17/09/2022 15:20

Glad you’re doing better

MissC was cold overnight here too DH said it was 0 degrees when he got into car. We hopefully won’t have heating on until end of September if we can help it!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/09/2022 16:57

I have not caught up with you all, but will do so soon.
Chemo starts on Tuesday 12 courses à 48h with a fortnight rest in between. Let's hope it works and I thank you all for your wishes.
DH has started to harvest the chilis. The foto shows 2/3 of the harvest of tree 1 of 6

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 23: Calmly through the day
mathanxiety · 17/09/2022 18:04

Wishing you all the best for your chemo, Prok. It's great that it's starting so soon.

I went out for a walk last evening as it was very balmy. The town was hopping - football game at the high school, band tootling away, cheerleaders, the works, and hundreds of cars parked. Within two blocks of the stadium there was a wedding in progress at a mansion which is a favorite wedding venue, marquees on the lawn, dozens of cars parked, DJ blasting music, and a couple of blocks further along there was some sort of restaurant fest on the main drag with crowds of people, cars everywhere. It was nice to see, such a change from the tumbleweeds of the lockdown.

My hibiscus blossomed overnight on the deck. It's going to rain tomorrow so I'll take some photos today. When I came out with my cup of tea earlier I found that squirrels had knocked over my sage plants so I put them back on their stand.

MissConductUS · 17/09/2022 18:14

I'm glad you have your treatment scheduled, Prok. We're all praying that it works for you. Are those the really hot chillis?

DS got home last night at about 9:00 PM. DH picked him up at the airport and then stopped to get him some dinner, as he just had a snack on the flight. He says that his meeting was more about networking than onboarding and that he met other new hires from all over the country and the NYC office, where he will be working.

DH and DS cut the lawn for the first time in months. It has survived the drought much better than I expected.
