Sorry you were flooded Potty

Hope you are recovering OK after your op MissC and it has worked.

Went to hospital for my blood tests today, not got results through yet. It was some hormone bloods and a dexa suppression test. Plus tracking DS for school and cahms e-mails.

Floof was very excited I had a Tunnocks teacake as he loves the wrappers, he bounced over, ran to the ball played for 30 secs then looked at me with eyes which said I have been conned here you have food and I have a wrapper. He then went to eat his cat nuts still looking a bit disgruntled.

Some birds on thatched roof, a magpie up close and the 2 pigeons who come to fight with their wings on our roof, no idea what they are fighting over but regular wing fights.

I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of HM. What an exemplary record of service to her nation and an inspiration to women everywhere.

DB and I went to the Berlin Dome, fed the sparrows, went to the GDR museum and the Humboldt forum and we had a very nice Italian dinner.
It rained all the time.
I am waiting.

Silkierabbit · 08/09/2022 21:50

I am glad you got a day out with your DB Prok sounds like you went to lots of nice places.

HelenaJustina · 09/09/2022 06:17

Prok I’m so desperately sorry to hear your news. Sending much love your way and holding you and yours in prayer.

MissConductUS · 09/09/2022 11:42

Prok, I'm so pleased that you had a nice day out. Self care is really important.

DS picked up lunch for himself yesterday after getting his covid booster, so I was on my own. I heated up a slice of homemade pizza I had in the freezer.

I'm getting my booster this morning at 11:30. I think I'll take DS out for a nice lunch afterward.

They showed hours of coverage of the demise of HMQ yesterday and there's more today, with lots of explanations of all the protocol.

Prok I hope you're doing OK and that your family can be a support to you. I'm glad you could have a nice day with your brother despite the rain.

MissC I hope your pain level is improving.

Lemonsandlemonade · 09/09/2022 19:08

Glad you had a nice day out Prok.

Whilst not necessarily a royalist it was sad to hear the queen had passed away. She was quite a lady I would say.

MissConductUS · 09/09/2022 19:27

Math, the coverage is non-stop in New York too. HM made several trips to NYC over the years and was much loved and admired here. She even went to a New York Yankees baseball game while here for the bicentennial celebrations in 1996. One thing that I will never forget about her is that on 9/11, she had the Star Spangled Banner played outside of Buckingham Palace as a gesture of solidarity with the US. That was really grand of her and people here remember it.

DS and I had a nice pub lunch out. I had my covid booster at the pharmacy and am feeling a bit fatigued, so will have lie down and hope no radioactive emails come in from work while I do so.

DD is 22 today. We had cake.
DH went to deliver a little lecture in Halberstadt. It went well, but of course the train back home was cancelled. He is somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

Silkierabbit · 10/09/2022 21:52

Happy birthday to your DD Prok

Lovely cake MissC

DH has been telling DD about the three times he met the Queen and one time he claims her chauffeur nearly ran him over. I only met her once at Trooping of the Colour years ago.

School are saying they cannot keep DS safe and are urging us to keep him home from Monday. I was quite upset by that as it took a huge amount of courage for DS to go back and I was proud of him, school did not even provide his timetable until day 3 so they weren't exactly helpful and told him could go back 1 day before. So I sent lots of not happy emails before deciding I should do something more productive and clean so cleaned a lot of upstairs and dining room and kitchen or a lot of it anyway.

Had IKEA meatballs and mashed potato and cabbage with lingonberry sauce for dinner.

MissConductUS · 10/09/2022 22:25

Happy birthday to your DD, Prok. My son is also 22. Why was your DH's train canceled?

Silkie, is the school concerned that he will wander off?

I had a big old nap today. I think I'm a bit tired from my covid jab yesterday. I also rode the stationary bike and did some weight lifting for the first time since my surgery. I'm probably pushing the timetable for exercising again, but it's driving me batty to be so sedentary.

DS and DH are making mac & cheese and burgers.

Adding to the Happy birthday wishes to your DD, Prok. I hope your DH has made it home.

Yet more unhelpfulness from DS's school, Silkie?! they really haven’t covered themselves in glory here.

Re. meeting the Queen - I did once, too. She was absolutely tiny.

Lemonsandlemonade · 11/09/2022 07:49

Prok Hope your DH got home ok sending your DD well wishes.

Crikey Silkie how awful of your DS’a school.

Took DS to a farm park thing yesterday he loved it and was quite cute feeding the animals saying ta every time they took feed from him.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/09/2022 13:07

Silkie Your DS school seems to be extraordinarily incompetent and creating problems that are definitely not needed.

DD says thank you for your wishes.

DH arrived home at 11:30 pm, 4 hours late. Halberstadt is pretty faceless, it was almost wiped out by air raides. Quedlinburg on the other hand had no industries and survived the war almost undamaged and is now part of the UNESCO word heritage.
Did he take fotos? Of course not.

Plastichanger · 11/09/2022 13:16

a belated happy birthday to your DD, Prok. What sort of cake did you have? Was it bought or made in your fancy new oven? I hope your DH made it home without too much of a delay.

Silkies your DS’s school is being outrageously unreasonable but it seems true to form for them so I can’t say I am surprised. It was a very good idea to spend your energy on something more productive by cleaning.

Miss I hope your recovery is going well now and that you haven’t overdone the exercise. I keep meaning to make your mac & cheese but haven’t got round to it yet.

in dull news, it was warmer and sunnier than expected on my walk today.

Plastichanger · 11/09/2022 13:18

Crossed posts, prok - glad your DH got home ok but four hours is a pretty long delay.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/09/2022 14:14

plastic we bought. None of us felt like baking. But DH has started the chili harvest, so sauces will be made soon.

MissConductUS · 11/09/2022 16:22

Prok, I'm glad your DH made it home. My DH went to Germany on business many years ago and still remembers how different places were depending on how badly damaged they were during the war. He saw forests around Hamburg where the trees had all been planted the same distance apart, which makes sense, but must look a bit unnatural.

DS suggested that I use the last of the apples from the pick your own farm to make a pie, so I did. They were very good baking apples; as you can see, we had some last night with vanilla ice cream.

Today is the 21st anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. I was in NYC working that day, so I have a lot of memories.

Belated best wishes to your DD, Prok. Glad your DH got home in the end. I follow an instagram account featuring architecture in Berlin, and there's a lot of new sprinkled in with a little old.

Silkies what would happen if you sent DS to school regardless of the letter? Can they insist you remove him? What if you refuse? Can you tell them to provide details of their plans to keep DS safe?

It has rained steadily all day today, really pelting down at times. I spent a little while finding jeans to wear as it's a tad chilly too. Football season has started. The local team played at home and won despite the weather and very soft going on the field. Two of DS's friends went to the game and were soaked to the skin.

MissConductUS · 12/09/2022 14:36

Math, the street flooding in Chicago was so bad over the weekend that it made the national news broadcasts. You really did get a lot of rain. We had some here took, but not so much as to cause problems.

As of today, DS is gainfully employed. He has Zoom meetings with people in the NYC office today and leaves for his onboarding in Orlando tomorrow morning. I think he's a little nervous about starting work. DH gave him some advice about it over the weekend, so hopefully, he's not too stressed about it now that it's happening.

Indeed it was exceptionally heavy rain, MissC. Some parts of the city got 5 inches before noon. I expect to see a lot of rolled up, soggy basement carpeting and ruined basement furniture placed in alleys in the coming week. DS's parking spot turned into a giant puddle so he parked on the street instead when he came home from his hospital rotation. He somehow managed to avoid getting a ticket. They are very dedicated to enforcing the parking regs around here.

HildaTablet · 12/09/2022 23:19

5 inches, Math? Wow, that’s really a lot. We’ve had some downpours here recently - which we needed, after weeks and weeks of baking hot temps and no rain at all - but nothing that bad, thank goodness.

I face-planted spectacularly yesterday after filling up the bird-feeders then somehow momentarily forgetting that there’s a very low fence around the small wall next to that bit of the garden (which we put up to stop our tortoise's escape attempts). I went to step over the wall, forgot about the fence so didn’t step high enough, and went headlong onto the flagstone patio. The small fatball I was holding didn’t do much to break my fall, sadly, but other than a scrape on the side of my face, a graze up one shin and a wrenched little finger, nothing more serious ensued. Except that my glasses, which I was wearing, now sit at a rather jaunty angle.

A visit to the opticians has been booked for tomorrow (and a clearly long-overdue eye-test). Oh, the shame.
