I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Here is the link to the prior thread:

Apologies that the prior thread filled up before I could create this one. Hopefully everyone will find it. Lurkers are of course welcome to unlurk.

I often type things on MN threads, then delete them before posting for various reasons. Sometimes having written it is enough, even if it is not really out on the ether.

MissConductUS · 06/09/2022 14:21

I'm still officially signed off sick but am trying to do some work from home. DS is here to help if I need anything. I'm feeling a bit better, but it's still quite sore and I can't lie on my back.

DS tried on the work clothes we ordered him from Lands End. One shirt is a bit too small, and will be going back, everything else fits fine. With his shop on Friday at Banana Republic (do you have those stores in the UK?), he's set for clothes.

I've booked my bivalent covid vaccine for Friday. I'm hoping DS can book the same time so he and I can go together.

I've been unable to get on mumsnet all weekend because of a consent pop-up that didn't have the icon to tap. Glad to see it had been added just now so I could get rid of it.
Hope you're feeling a bit better Miss and I hope you got good news Prok
I'm pondering how to feed 5 adults tomorrow with 500g of pork mince & no time! May have to be shepherd's pie with lentils to bulk it out. We have shepherd's pie a lotWink

TheHateIsNotGood · 06/09/2022 21:28

I've created some really nice food using my microwave. I heard a radio programme that said use your micro as if it was a hob-fired steamer as a cost-cutting thing. It worked, at least this time. Frozen smoked haddock pieces, reduced price spinach and leftover jus and herbs. Delish.

MissConductUS · 07/09/2022 00:00

Welcome, @TheHateIsNotGood , and thanks for sharing your microwaving and energy-saving news. That dish sounds lovely.

I was making grilled cheese sandwiches tonight and slightly burned one of my fingertips. One of the sandwiches was sticking, so I tried to move it with a spatula and a little push from my finger. Not my wisest move.

I wound up doing three Zoom meetings today and a load of emails. So much for rest and recuperation.

I did get a follow call from the surgical center today. Yesterday was a holiday. As politely as possible, I pointed out that patients should not be sent home with electrodes attached.

Flatmountains I like doing that too.

The hummingbird is still a fixture at the feeder (though it may well be a whole flock of them - they all look the same and they;re so small I need my glasses on to get a really good look). We're steadily losing light in the evenings and temps are on a general downward slide, so it can't be long now before they take off for the Gulf coast and their long flight to Mexico, Panama, and Costa Rica. Some fly over open water to get there, though some follow the land.

I made a nice chicken curry using a jar of Trader Joe's Thai green curry simmer sauce, a cube of frozen chopped ginger and garlic, an onion, basil leaves, and spinach. It's nice to be able to leave a pot simmering on the stovetop. DD4 has gone mad baking.

HelenaJustina · 07/09/2022 06:37

How are things Prok have you been released yet?

The person I report direct to/work most closely with, went home in tears yesterday. It could be an interesting couple of days at work seeing as I’m so new still!

in dull news, despite two children starting new schools yesterday and my working further away and the first after-school activities beginning, I got a home cooked meal on the table and the bathrooms cleaned just don’t ask at what time!

Silkierabbit · 07/09/2022 09:48

Prok I really hope things are OK, have sent you a PM to see if you are OK and hope you are out of hospital and nothing bad was found.

Make sure you do take time to rest MissC

Enjoy hummingbirds Math

Hope you can get a rest at some point Helena

Enjoy the meal Iwandered We like shepherds pie here apart from the vegan one (DD).

DD is still working at her summer job, sixth form starts quite late here but all on track.

DS was due back at school on Monday, only told on Thursday that he would be allowed back in so been quite a scramble and they could not get a timetable to him before end of yesterday and they say will still call police if he wanders on school site. First day he was too nervous to go in but did have a bath and put uniform on. Second day he went in but did not take tracker so DH had to spend all day at school so they did not call police but now has 1/2 a days work to catch up. Now on day 3 he is at school with tracker but nowhere near a lesson.

I have a lot of side effects from the treatments and am quite ill at the moment, the oncology team called yesterday and said I qualify for another med on top called Abemacicclib for 2 years if I want but I said I can barely move on current meds and feel very ill so not sure but will look into it. I was shocked how much it costs £38k a year. I need to go through the stats with them, I am struggling to tolerate the hormone drug though hard to know atm what is causing what and why I am half numb and in pain, nausea, dizzy etc. They don't know if will improve. Though its good they are offering the drug, was stage 4 only until July now its for people at high risk of stage 4. Having the threat of police being called each day does not help and I am so tired and DH has gone to sleep but I need to stay on lost bear duty as we have tracker.

Floor done in living room, need to finish day bed and move furniture back. Hospital tomorrow for endo tests. Oncology has been put back.

MissConductUS · 07/09/2022 15:01

Math, I'm still seeing hummingbirds on what's left of my flowers on the deck. I'd love to pop out to the brand new Trader Joe's that just opened in my town but I'm still not supposed to be driving.

Helena, do you know what made her cry?

Silkie, I'm glad you finally worked out a school placement for your DS. For the time being, I think it's enough if he's going, even if he's not getting much out of it.

Abemaciclib is quite effective, with a 92% two-year survival rate.

news.cancerconnect.com/breast-cancer/verzenio-delays-cancer-progression-prolongs-survival-in-breast-cancer

Ask your care team if you can discontinue some of your other medications while you try it.

I'm a bit concerned about Prok too. She may be receiving treatment without access to her phone or the internet.

I'm still experiencing more sciatic pain than I was expecting. It may be due to inflammation of the bone at the surgical site, which typically takes some time to resolve. The surgery has a 75% success rate. I hope I'm not going to be in the unlucky 25%.

Silkie I have answered your PM, but I messed up the paragraphs - sorry. Good news about your DS, or better slightly improved news
To Miss , Silkie, Helena and others worried about me:
I had all sorts of tests on Thursday and Friday in hospital (sonography, endoscopy, CT, biopsie, bloods) - today I got the results.
I will start a hopefully lifeprolonging chemo for pancreatic cancer next week - again on a Thursday at 8 am. Until then I am supposed to relax and enjoy myself and I am allowed to eat everything as I need the calories. I am on 5 different medications, because they found a couple of other treatable things as well.
Now I have to get my stuff in order - luckily medical bills are not a problem.

HildaTablet · 07/09/2022 17:48

Oh Prok. I feel as though we’re friends, although we’ve never met, so allow me to send much love your way 💕

Silkierabbit · 07/09/2022 17:58

I so very sorry Prok and sending lots and lots of love. I sent you a PM back before just to send love and give you my details if I could help with anything - I wish there was something useful could do but its hard with that cancer. I often do that with the PMs too.

Lemonsandlemonade · 07/09/2022 18:39

Oh Prok am so sorry reading your post. Sending you love. Thinking of you,

Silkierabbit · 07/09/2022 21:29

Hope your op has worked MissC

Floof is very excited that we have teacakes as he loves to play football with the wrappers. He bounced over to me as I was about to eat one on the bed and I threw it and it went just over the bed between bed and bedside table. He then nosedived to get it but went on an angle and I saw Floof go to the ground in slow motion upside down back first. He seemed OK though, worth it for a Floofball. And we had jacket potatoes with corned beef, he refused corned beef before but now was very interested and I gave him half mine and he was very trilly (Maine Coon purr) and nuzzled my arm and ate it all. Then left trilling more. When DD came back she said Floof is super happy today. Floof is always happy, just have to say his name and he purrs.

halfpasteleven · 07/09/2022 21:49

Prok, I'm wishing you all the very best. So sorry to read your update. You're strong, and we are here for you.

pottydimley · 08/09/2022 06:22

Context: my husband has dementia and we were flooded for the second time in three weeks on Tuesday. Anyway, I hear you ask what I did with my day off today? Spent a lot of it filling sandbags as apparently that’s what you have to do. P got his letter from the NHS this morning saying he could have his next CV19 jab, so I found the closest walk in clinic as I knew he would be stressed about when his appointment would be, drove over there (nearly 20 miles) only to be told that they don’t start till next Monday which the NHS had unaccountably forgot to mention in the letter. I took him to see a GP who didn’t know why we were there, despite the fact it was his colleague who had told us to come in, and had nothing to tell us other than to save what I had to say for when we see the consultant at the end of the month. I took him for a shingles jab only to be told he can’t have it before we check with his Parkinson’s nurse in case it screws his meds. On the plus side, I managed to get my right ear hoovered out and gave the cats their flea treatment. So it wasn’t an entirely fucking infuriating day after all.

MissConductUS · 08/09/2022 13:30

Welcome, @pottydimley , and thanks for sharing your flooding and NHS vaccination news. I'm glad you could at least get the cats and your ear blockage sorted.

We managed to convince DS to get his covid booster before he starts work next week in case it makes him feel poorly for a day or two. I was able to book him a slot in a nearby town for noon today. I'm still booked tomorrow with our local pharmacy. DS and DH went for haircuts yesterday afternoon and they both look very nice.

I have to ring our Subaru dealer to see if the replacement spare key for DS's car has come in. He needs to get that sorted today or tomorrow.

One of the cat woke me up at 2:30 this morning and I never really got back to sleep due to the pain in my leg and back. I am no longer off sick, just working from home until Monday.

Lemonsandlemonade · 08/09/2022 17:08

Welcome Potty. Miss C how are you doing now after your op? In dull news I was ten mins late for training today as we had no hot water in work and I had to workout how to reset the water.

MissConductUS · 08/09/2022 17:54

I'm doing better, Lemons, but I am still experiencing more pain in my leg than I expected six days after the surgery. I'll ring the ortho nurse tomorrow if it's not better. Trying to contact the surgeon's office on the weekend is not easy.

Good for you, figuring out how to reset the water heater. How did you do it?

DS is still at his appointment to get jabbed, and I'm not sure if should wait for him to come back to have lunch.
