I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Here is the link to the prior thread:

Apologies that the prior thread filled up before I could create this one. Hopefully everyone will find it. Lurkers are of course welcome to unlurk.

Having been away for weeks, I've been catching up on all the life admin. How can there be so much? Why does most of it involve being on hold for hours?

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 10/08/2022 17:14

MissConductUS · 10/08/2022 16:30

is my English literature degree enthusiasm showing?!

Would it shock you to know that I took a full year of Shakespeare in uni and read all of the plays and sonnets? I also took courses in American literature. One nice thing about higher ed here is that the extra year in university allows you to study many things outside your major. DD is doing a double major in neurobiology and data science, so I think we have a boffin on our hands. 😁

Yes! DD2 took an anthropology class last year and that is now probably going to be her major. I love that they get to try new things and don't have to confirm their major straight away.

DD1 switched majors three times before she found the right one. Last year one of her classes was Philosophy 101, and we had some really interesting discussions as a result.

HelenaJustina · 10/08/2022 21:46

Not surprised at all Miss anyone who enjoys a Dorothy L Sayers must be generally well-read!

Hope the admin tasks have eased ZZ or that you are starting to tick things off the list.

We returned to Sutton Hoo today to explore the burial mounds and to see some of the Staffordshire Hoard which is currently on tour there. I now want to re-read Rosemary Sutcliffe’s post Roman Britain novels.

Silkierabbit · 10/08/2022 23:30

Finished my radiotherapy today so that's radio, chemo and 2 surgeries done. They said the worst effects will be in 2 to 3 weeks but hoping will just be tiredness. Did not really notice much so far from radio (lots of neuropathy still from chemo) other than feeling a bit sick occassionally but more tired today. Also had endo blood test re adrenal mass and another one in September, atm those bloods seem to be fine, they took a load before they were happy with but not sure what happens if bloods are OK if they operate or leave or whether chemo will have reduced it, anyway at least that one isn't cancer. Then start hormone therapy and on list for reconstruction surgery. But I do not have to be in hospital now until 8th September and just one call before then.

Looks a lovely day out Hilda

Hope the life admin is decreasing ZZ

About to fall asleep so will catch up more later. Very hot here as well.

mathanxiety · 11/08/2022 05:26

Silkies sending you best wishes as you slog through it all.

I had a mammogram today and bought myself a plant at the local conservatory on my way home.

HelenaJustina · 11/08/2022 07:37

Congratulations on reaching this milestone silkie, I hope you really enjoy the ‘break’

HildaTablet · 11/08/2022 15:55

Silkie what a marathon. Well done you. Try to have a bit of a rest from the endless round of hospital stuff for a while now Flowers

IWanderedLonely · 11/08/2022 17:32

Pleased for you Silkie, hope you get minimal side-effects. Off to do the weekly shop, it's dull until you hear the ever increasing total to pay.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/08/2022 21:04

Finally caught up with you all:
Glad your radio therapy is not too bad Silkie and your eyes are better Sue

A couple of years ago I stumbled upon the Crystal lectures on original pronunciation - an eye (well ear) opener!

I am continuing my maths course, but I take it very very slowly. Luckily I kept all the practice books my DC used.

MissConductUS · 11/08/2022 21:12

I'm glad to hear you're making headway on your treatment plan, Silkie. Enjoy the break until September. Side effects are usually much worse for chemo than radio.

ZZ, it's lovely to have you back on the thread. Life admin can indeed pile up. I just got off the phone with DD's questioning a second summer rent charge that just showed up on her bill.

I'm on the Finance Committee at church and we have a meeting tonight. I'm trying to get a zoom link as I'm trying to avoid catching covid. If I get it now, my surgery will have to be rescheduled.

Silkierabbit · 12/08/2022 19:30

Thanks everyone. Glad radio is over and so far just tired and a bit of redness and hopefully will stay at that, using Aveeno on it. All over neuropathy, presumably from chemo but hoping that will also go before too long. Its sweltering here at 35C today, about 4 days like this with no air conditioning.

Hope you can get things online and stay covid free MissC

Hope the maths course is going Ok Prok

Hope your holiday is going well Helena

Mr Floof has spent most of the day with me, he ate lots of king prawns with me for lunch so I am now his best friend. DD working again today, she loves it and loves the money, think she has negotiated a better paying role there as well and it was already good pay at 16. DHs French ID card has been produced so he has to go to London to get it. May get a new mattress.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 12/08/2022 20:19

I am astonished at the amount of stuff I have forgotten and I need much more time to get it back.
Funnyly enough all the French came back much more easily. Though I would not inflict my French on my work mate. There is a shortage of engineers and I do not want to be responsible. Grin

Lemonsandlemonade · 12/08/2022 20:21

Sending Well Wishes Silkie enjoy a treatment free break.

Very Hot Here went to Chester Zoo today. It was a freebie as I complained when we took DS last time. Took DM and DH. who loves DS so much. The care of the animals is so good in Chester zoo from the looks. Was lovely but warm!

Hope you can keep Covid free MissC

Lovely zoo pictures, Lemons. I haven't been to a zoo in years.

I got a new laptop at work. The good news is that it's faster than my old laptop, which was five years old. The bad news is that it's a lot of faff to get it set up the same. I set up synchronization for Chrome, so all my browsing history and passwords came over.

I hope you get to enjoy this respite Silkie and that Mr Floof continues to delight you and us all on this thread..

Good luck staying Covid Free Miss

Happy holidays Helena

Good luck with the Maths course Prok- it wasn't my best subject at school so I don't know how I'd be these days!

It's been v hot here all week but expected to break on Sunday night - I don't do heat verywell without air con so I'll be happy to see temps back to normal values for August..

findingmel · 13/08/2022 10:46

Morning all, longtime lurker here and decided to finally post. Hope you're all well this sunny morning. Off to do a c25k run on the treadmill in the garage in a while. It's time to do something about the perimenopausal spread 😬

MissConductUS · 13/08/2022 17:32

Welcome, @findingmel and thanks for delurking and sharing your exercise news. I ran for many years, but due to injuries and various conditions, I am currently reduced to weight lifting and riding the stationary bike.

The heat has broken here and it's a lovely Saturday.

DS has been told that he has to attend an onboarding course for his new job when he starts next month and the course will be held in Orlando, Florida. DH helped him book his flights and think through ground transportation, luggage, packing, etc. I think DS is nervous about traveling alone but a bit excited too.

mathanxiety · 14/08/2022 01:36

Fingers crossed covid misses you, MissC.

Today was pleasantly cool. I sat on the deck in the morning and along came a hummingbird, who sipped a little of the sugar water from the feeder, then proceeded to occupy a twig close by for over an hour, preening herself thoroughly. A second hummingbird approached the feeder but was driven off by a good deal of chirping - I have never heard them chirp up to now.

I brought DD3 out to buy a water bottle late in the afternoon. It turned out to be more like a quest for the holy grail but she found one in the end. She bought two pairs of shorts at the Gap factory shop too, hugely reduced. We tried on perfumes while we were there and I may need to bleach my left wrist as a result.

Prok, is your maths course undertaken voluntarily or with an exam in mind?

MissConductUS · 14/08/2022 11:54

Thanks, Math. It's a miracle that I haven't had covid over the last two years. I'm not even going to church again until after the surgery.

It's a lovely cool morning here, 55F/13C, so we slept with the windows open. We're going to the pick your own farm this morning to pick apples and pears. And visit the farm store, of course. 😊

OP posts:
MissConductUS · 14/08/2022 14:45

We're at the farm trying to locate the pears. It's a lovely morning.

Enjoy your time at the farm MissC looks lovely.

Hummingbird is lovely Math

Glad you had a great time at Chester Zoo Lemons

Thanks Half Also waiting for weather to break, 35C here today.

Welcome Finding hope you managed to do your run ok.

Lovely morning here, only 4 days after last radiotherapy but no broken skin, very little redness so decided to go to the Lido swimming, first time been. Its 91 metres long and managed to do 18 lengths which is 1 mile. Beautiful views on way to it with ducks in the river and punts and lovely sunny day. Had a lovely ice cream there after in a fancy cone with rum and raisin. DH only did 3 lengths, he said it was as he wanted to stay in the sun. 😎This is half of the pool

Silkies that looks heavenly, I can see why you love going there.
We've handed back our temporary dog ( looking after her for my brother & sister in law while they were on holiday). I loved having her but we definitely don't have time for a dog of our own.
Spent the afternoon sanding and undercoating our TV stand in readiness for decorating the front room.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 14/08/2022 19:45

Silkie Great your side effects are bearable. And I am full of admiration for your swimming skills.
Miss I hope you can avoid it.

@mathanxiety It is an online course free of charge but if you want to get a certificate you can officially register. It is offered by unis to students who are not sure if their maths is up to scratch. DS does it to revise and I do it for fun. I knew all this stuff, once, in my youth. English Version

MissConductUS · 14/08/2022 20:43

That's a beautiful pool, Silkie. Well done swimming a mile. I'm having a good day if I can walk two miles due to my sciatica.

Iwandered, I feel the same about dogs. I love them but can't imagine having the time and commitment they require. For us, cats are a good compromise.

Prok, I have too much required continuing education for work to want to take a course voluntarily, so I admire your initiative.

We eventually found the pears at the farm, but they didn't look great. So we picked two bags of apples instead. We took home blueberry bread, blueberry scones, black and white cookies, and some heirloom tomatoes from the farm store. We'll slice up one of the tomatoes and have it with dinner tonight.

The flowers in the planters are starting to thin out a bit, so perhaps the deck garden has peaked for the summer. The other plants are doing well, though. If you look very closely, there is a purrito in the picture.

We’ve been for a walk with friends this morning and for a short sail along the river. Then ticked off orthodontist for DC1 and GP for DC4. Suitably dull but virtuous!
