Apologies that the prior thread filled up before I could create this one. Hopefully everyone will find it. Lurkers are of course welcome to unlurk.

Thanks, ZZ. Nice to see you on the thread! 😊

Silkie, Mr Floof is looking very grown up and handsome.

The party was lovely, the food and service were both excellent, and as you can see, there was plenty of leftover cake. The bakery did a nice job decorating it.

Everyone showed up on time, and we took many group pictures at the end. It's been a while since the New York and Massachusetts branches of the family got together, so it was nice to see everyone.

MissC he will be on them for a week. The pharmacist said he needed them as he was struggling a bit with his breathing and having to work hard. He is an excellent pharmacist.

He is much better today. Nowhere near as chesty. I would love to live near a Lido Silkie. Something about swimming outside that I love.

Taking DS to bouncy castle today. My old work colleague invited us she is very lonely and doesn’t see many people.

Lemonsandlemonade · 07/08/2022 08:37

Wow MissC that cake looks delicious.

MissConductUS · 07/08/2022 14:18

It was really good, Lemons.

We have to drop my car off at the dealership for service and MOT, then come back and collect the kids and take DD back to uni, so I'll be out of the house for most of the day.

I'm sure the cats will miss us.

The cake looks delicious Miss I hope it was a lovely celebration.

After a holiday Mass this morning (a different church is always interesting) we have spent the afternoon at a horse stud/sanctuary. DC4 wants to live here actually on the stud now.

IWanderedLonely · 07/08/2022 20:36

Helena I was obsessed with horses as a child, it wore off in my teen years.
Had a completely bonkers busy week, lots of grandchild-minding, plus got the decorators in at work which caused chaos. We're also dogsitting for 10 days. Sorry not to name check.

Silkierabbit · 07/08/2022 21:30

That does sound busy Iwandered Hope you enjoyed grandchild sitting.

Lovely cake MissC and glad party went well.

Hope you had a nice time at bouncy castle Lemons I used to go on them myself with the kids at times. I used to end up with random kids at times.

Glad holiday is going well Helena

Never got to the Lido, DH was worried about me going mid radiotherapy and he is probably right but wanted to go. We had a lovely Sunday lunch though Floof was eating my meat as fast as I could break it up and give it him so I gave him a big bit to give me a chance to catch up and he took that bit off to eat in secret.

Moved a chest of drawers and cleared some things on the landing and Floof was so happy, it means that there is a bigger space which he immediately declared his football pitch and also started stretching out in it really big with paws and tail out as far as they go. And it has a whole big window of sun Floof can sunbathe in. Plus new location of chest of drawers has a beam behind which Floof can walk on and play peek-a-boo. And he went inside the empty chest of drawers. Recycling day tomorrow and lots went in that so garden is cleared too. Am now having a milky coffee and a snickers bar, used to be Marathon, showing my age there.

DD was working on the boats all day again and has got a bit of sun.

MissConductUS · 08/08/2022 00:04

Silkie, a cat will claim any new space for its exclusive use.

We got home around 5:00. It was an easy drive up, more traffic coming home, but not awful. We stopped for lunch when we got to the town her uni is in and had a lovely lunch in a restaurant in a marina on the Connecticut River. We all had lobster rolls and clam chowder.

None of us want dinner because of the big lunch but will probably find room for a bit of the leftover cake as a snack.

Going to the opticians this morning for an eye test. It's going to be interesting to find out the difference since my cataract op. (I was very short-sighted previously)

DoctorTwo · 08/08/2022 18:01

Had a blood test this morning, was in and out before my appointment time. Bloody NHS! Next one is on 22/8, so 2 weeks to recover and rehydrate. Spent half the day in the sun and half the day napping. Taking the cat to the vet tomorrow. He's proper hard so should be ok.

sueelleker · 08/08/2022 19:36

My right eye is brilliant-I can read nearly to the bottom of the chart. The OCT test showed some oedema in my left eye, so I'm being referred back to the hospital to see if they want to give me some drops. Better to get it sorted before I get new glasses.

mathanxiety · 09/08/2022 03:13

Sounds like a lovely party, MissC. What flavours were in the cake?

Mr Floof is is a truly beautiful cat, Silkies.

We had a hot and humid weekend here but I still walked to the library sale on Saturday morning, lugging my haul back in my little old lady shopping basket in temps of about ninety nine and a half. I bought some history titles including a chunky biography of FDR, a book of doable soup recipes, and some Dorothy L. Sayers mysteries which I'll donate for next year's sale after I read them. The first one I'm going to read is a history of Los Angeles in 1974.

DD2 was in town with her company doing some silly team building with other companies in her industry in the horrible August heat. She met up with two friends she's known since kindergarten and we all had a good time at the book sale.

MissConductUS · 09/08/2022 16:19

Math, it's been really hot here too. Driving back after dropping off DD at uni, it hit 100F. On the way up DD asked us to turn off the AC. DH was unwilling to do this, thank goodness but redirected the cold air to the windshield. On the way back we were able to direct it from the dashboard, which was much more effective.

The party was lovely. The cake, which we are still eating, is a Black and White cake. Two layers of chocolate cake and one layer of yellow cake that is filled with vanilla custard and chocolate mousse. The icing on top is buttercream.

I have a busy week at work.

I’m glad the celebrations went well Miss.

i am bracing myself for super hot weather later this week. I hope it won’t get as hot as the temps you are having, Math and Miss, especially on Sunday when we have to leave the comfort of home for a BBQ.

After reading a thread on here asking if picking blackberries was still a thing, I decided to go out and forage some blackberries today - they were lovely.

sproutsandparsnips · 09/08/2022 21:52

Ooh that cake looks delicious Miss!
Glad DS is a bit better Lemons.
I have made a blackberry crumble with local blackberries and local ice cream to go with it! They seem to get earlier every year - I remember when they ripened in September!

4th radiotherapy now done and last one tomorrow plus cortisol bloods an hour before. Mr Floof says thank you Math , he is trilling a lot today, he had quite a few king prawns at lunch and just stuck his head in a bowl of cream and started trilling again. He is now playing football. DD has been doing her punting job again today.

I am now trying to work out best way to change the flooring downstairs over to solid wood flooring in the living and dining rooms. We have carpet atm and concrete underneath.

Lovely crumble Sprouts

Nice to get blackberries Plastic

Glad your party was great MissC

Enjoy your book Math

Glad tests went well Sue and DrTwo Hope cat was OK DrTwo

I got measured for a new bra today, after not buying any for about 3 years. Bought 2, am wearing one now and it's strangely comfortable.

HelenaJustina · 09/08/2022 22:52

Just back from DC’s first experience of live Shakespeare, the Scottish play performed outdoors at Sutton Hoo. Very special and not dull in anyway!

MissConductUS · 09/08/2022 23:00

Welcome, @VickerishAllsort , and thanks for sharing your sartorial news. I'm overdue for some replacement bras myself.

Helena, which Shakespeare play did they see, Macbeth?

HildaTablet · 09/08/2022 23:05

Hello to all, and I’m glad the radiotherapy is going smoothly, Silkie.

It was warm here today and I went to Chester - known to the Romans as Deva - which is where you can have a conversation with a centurion (see pic) and walk about on the Rows, which are galleries with shops behind, reached by steps from the street. Some have been there for centuries (again, see pic) but, according to a city guide, ‘nobody knows why’.

I’m afraid I didn’t have time to go into the Cathedral to see the famous 14th century choir stalls, but I did note that they were hosting a special exhibition of a big model railway. The publicity says excitably that the layout will feature a four-track main line throughout the scenic section, but impressively it also has grade separation to cross the Down Northampton line over the Up Fast line at the big junction which occupies one corner of the layout…..which is possibly the single most English thing I will ever write.

Oh Hilda I'm jealous, I love Chester. We used to say in Ye Olde Kings Head near the river, it was on Most Haunted once. Smile
Blackberries aren't ripe here yet, about 2 weeks away. I've still got all the blackcurrants in my freezer, I haven't had time to do anything with them.
Babyy's awake must go.

MissConductUS · 10/08/2022 14:14

Hilda, that sounds like a lovely and fascinating day out. I love visiting cathedrals. The largest cathedral in north America is St. John the Devine in NYC and I have been there several times. It's Episcopal/Anglican and not as well known as the more centrally located St. Patrick's, which is RC.

www.stjohndivine.org/

Iwandered, if you like paranormal investigations there's a really good podcast I listen to call Haunted Road. The woman who does it was on a TV program called Ghost Hunters and now investigates haunted sites all over the US.

We've finally had a break in the heat, so I had a much nicer walk this morning.

I love Chester too Hilda what a great sounding trip.

It was Miss, one of those magical evenings with Shakespeare performed as it should be. With the music and humour and rude bits all left in and none of the beautiful poetry and language taken out. You know something special has taken place when DC aged 9-14 all understand the story and are enthralled throughout is my English literature degree enthusiasm showing?!

MissConductUS · 10/08/2022 16:30

is my English literature degree enthusiasm showing?!

Would it shock you to know that I took a full year of Shakespeare in uni and read all of the plays and sonnets? I also took courses in American literature. One nice thing about higher ed here is that the extra year in university allows you to study many things outside your major. DD is doing a double major in neurobiology and data science, so I think we have a boffin on our hands. 😁

Theatre outdoors is always great fun, Helena, and the Scottish play is a good gory one for the first Shakespeare experience for the younger ones 😉

MissC, I like a good cathedral too and was sorry not to have time to go into Chester’s. I live quite near St Albans which has a magnificent Abbey church and contains the shrine of Britain’s first Christian martyr. According to legend, when Alban was executed (by those pesky Romans) the first executioner refused to do the deed, so a second was brought in to complete the job….as soon as he did, divine retribution descended and his eyes popped out. Sorry to anyone eating, by the way.

Aaaanyway - to this day they have a yearly pageant in Snorbans (as it’s known locally) with a huge street parade of giant puppets re-telling the story. Complete with papier-mâché eyeballs. Fun fact.

I don’t have a picture of the eyeballs but this is one of the Roman soldier puppets.
