Thanks Sue, very interesting! I may have to get some !

MissConductUS · 30/07/2022 21:51

I had never heard of potato grow bags - very interesting. The only veg I'm growing this summer is the cherry tomatoes, which are coming in beautifully because of the heat. The tomato plant is behind the big planter so you can't see it in this picture. Looking closely at the second picture, you will see a very small lion on the deck. His job is to guard the deck from birds.

I feel bad for DD in this heat. Her dormitory at uni does not have central air conditioning. She's spending her days in buildings that do, but has to go back there to sleep. She has a large fan and a small fridge to keep cold drinks in.

Glad your DS had a good time at the game MissC

Great you have a new oven Prok and great idea to bake a cake.

Thanks so much Half, DrTwo and Plastic re LA. I would like to say it was a very productive meeting but hmm. It was the nice lady but schools are closed for the summer and she has been on holiday then had covid so I could update her but no real news their end. Glad you like your haircut DrTwo I managed to keep bob length hair after chemo with my frozen peas trick but am still getting used to it.

DD is working 6 days out of 7 and seems delighted with that as she loves money and really enjoys the job. Plus its good exercise for her though she needs to remember to eat more, esp now she has gone back to being vegan.

We had the cleaners in for a one-off clean for 2 hours today, 2 of them and also cleared out a dresser in the living room we are getting rid of next week and looks much better. Floof loved it, the cleaners were admiring him and telling him he was the most beautiful cat they had ever seen and he was rolling over for them and posing. He is so purry atm, was on my bed last night purring for 3 hours solid. Today he got very excited seeing me brush my teeth, I wonder if he's not seen anyone do that before, he thinking seemed to be something in mouth is food and something moving is game so cleaning teeth is super exciting, its a food game. Start radio on Thursday and have a week of it. Wed have a council special collection. Got a Sainsburys click and collect tomorrow incl my cream for radiotherapy and Sunday lunch ingredients.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 31/07/2022 11:35

oven news: after making do with only 2 hobs for years DH forgot that he now has 4 again and can actually get all the food ready at the same time.
I will make an apple-raisin-walnut cake tonight to get a feel for it.

Even more exciting:
I completely forgot that we have a 'Fernuniversität' - which people who can't attend in person because of handicaps, family / job obligations or because they are in space (Matthias Mauer) inscribe to study STEM subjects. DH remembered and - lo and behold! 😀- DS found something interesting and applied for a place.

MissConductUS · 31/07/2022 12:13

Good luck with your continued jousting with the LA, Silkie. My DD loved getting her first paychecks when she worked for the bakery/cafe the summer before she started uni. I hope your radiotherapy goes well. It should be much easier than the chemo.

That's great news about the stove and the course for you DS. Does the new stove fit in the same space as the old one?

It cooled off to 17C here overnight, so I have all of the sliding glass doors and windows open to get some fresh air into the house. We're not going to the pick your own farm this morning, so I will probably go to church.

DS has decided that the wants a black and white cake for his party. That's two layers of chocolate cake with a layer of yellow cake in the middle, with vanilla custard and chocolate mousse filling. We have to get a sheet cake because a round cake won't feed the number of attendees, currently 16.

Miss Having the brain that I have, I got the 'wrong measurement-fear' Smile . But no, the oven fits nicely.

Silkie Best wishes for your treatment! And an admiring smile to Mr. Floof.

NDN and her cat finally got a new addition to their household. A tiny, very wide awake black and white kitten. I found out - via a work mate's second son's almost daughter in law who works in the field that pet sanctuaries have an upper age limit for placements. Imagine: 350 cats waiting and no, you can't get even an old one as an OAP. They can't say it loud, of course.

HelenaJustina · 31/07/2022 15:57

We’ve had family staying for the weekend, including a 3yr old and 1yr old. Loads of fun but made me so glad we are past that stage. Everyone is quite flat now they’ve left but the Women’s Euros final will perk us all up soon.

MissConductUS · 31/07/2022 17:15

Helena, good of you to put them up. The English women's football team has done so well that it's in the news here. The last women's world cup really raised the level of interest in the sport here.

DS and DH are off to drop off the car at the dealership for service.

IWanderedLonely · 31/07/2022 19:15

We're back to discussing paint colours for the front room to go with burgundy settees and beige carpets. Settled on magnolia cream. My 20 year old self would be aghast. I don't have the energy to care.

MissConductUS · 31/07/2022 21:10

Good choice, IWandered.

Well done to England's women's football team! Flowers

OP posts:
Silkierabbit · 31/07/2022 21:22

We also have burgundy leather sofas Iwandered and love them but a wall colour is quite hard, ours are cream / white though have beams here which makes it less dull but at least with cream / white you have a blank canvas and think its a good choice.

Floof has been playing football and also was super happy it was Sunday lunch today and I got pork and pigs in blankets so three types of meat, he was living the dream though I forget how much of him is fluff and he needs the meat cutting very small. I think he is about 1/3 cat and 2/3rds fluff. He looks big already and also today leaped 2 metres down from the wardrobe no issue and he's not even half the size he will be yet.

DD was working at her punting job again today and just back. DH collected my Sainsburys food click and collect order and got more food for the chickens and the rabbit. DH was playing the piano but same 3 songs he always plays for last 20 odd years and tonight I said we have heard them rather a lot and maybe he could try another song. He laughed so took it better than expected. He has piano lessons each week but always seems to revert to the same three.

Glad your NDN got their extra cat Prok

Black bin day tomorrow.

mathanxiety · 01/08/2022 05:18

Once again, you are left without an answer about DS's education, Silkies. Nobody you are talking to seems to have any sense that they have a responsibility to DS.

Prok it seems all wrong that someone over a certain age can't get an older cat from a shelter. It would seem to be a perfect match, to me anyway. One of my DDs fosters cats and kittens, and DS and his exGF did so too. DD has ended up with two cats of her own, and also a puppy, through the fostering.

We bought a fur comb thingy to try to relieve Dcat of some of her heavy coat (like My Floof she is 2/3 fur and 1/3 cat and it's too much for her in the heat). We harvested enough fur to knit at least one more cat. Dcat got a bit annoyed with us after a few hours of happy purring, so we stopped.

I may well need to go without sedation, MissC as my alternative is to sit in the lobby of the hospital and wait until DS gets back from his day of emergency med rotation to take me home. I can go in an Uber with DD3 (who narrowly missed totaling my car and killing herself twice and now understandably doesn't want to drive) if I go without sedation.

The GI doctor who will be doing the procedure sent me instructions for the necessary prep - he wants me to buy and prepare a concoction of Miralax and Gatorade, and kick off a marathon bathroom session by taking a whopping dose of Dulcolax at 3pm the day before, which will absolutely not be possible due to the fact that I will be at work, can't take time off, and am expected to be 100% on duty and not drinking exact quantities of refrigerated drinks at specific intervals, alternating with dashing to the loo all afternoon, with nausea a distinct possibility too. I'm going to ask if I can take Suprep instead, which they'll have to prescribe.

MissConductUS · 01/08/2022 15:14

Prok, I asked about the size because going from two burners to four would usually mean a bigger stove, as they normally put on all of the burners that will fit. If you got two more burners with the same size appliance that's great.

Math, I strongly advise against doing it without sedation. If your DD will be with you in the Uber they should be okay with that. You just can't drive for 12-24 hours and they don't want you to be alone. I usually take the afternoon off the day before the procedure so that I can start the prep around 2:00 PM. I've never tried Suprep so I don't know if it would work any faster.

We had 0.31 inches of badly needed rain overnight.

OP posts:
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/08/2022 17:26

Miss The old oven had four hobs, too. Only 2 of them stopped working about 6 years ago. And DH is a 'make-doer'. So I had to work at it. Grin

DS has to do a prep-course maths before the semester starts. They are free, so I decided to take it, too. It is more than 40 years since I did maths.

Lemonsandlemonade · 01/08/2022 18:00

Oh Silkie it makes me so cross re your DS. I really hope you get some answers soon.

Helena one and three year olds are a challenge at times. 😀

Supposed to be going away Wednesday just me and DH. DS is poorly though so will see. DS has been great all day went swimming but then has gone down hill tonight. He has a temperature and off food. 😕

DoctorTwo · 01/08/2022 22:16

I moved up to my dd2's place. I drove 160 or so miles w
ith a drain sticking out of my back. It was uncomfortable, but I'm here now in her house with her mum, my ex-wife, two dogs and a cat. All is good. Apart from my back, which is now painful again after the dressing had been changed. There's more pressure put on the insertion point for the drain.

I'm trying to register with a local doctor, and managed to have a laugh with the receptionist. Fun fun fun. Saw my granddaughter today, a girl full of fun and dancing. She danced all around Sainsbury's and I smiled like a proud granddad. Happy times.

One of her dogs got into their food cupboard and ate about 750 grams of dog biscuits. He's going to shit himself inside out tomorrow. Her cat, a beautiful black tom, is currently asleep on my bed. Things are going ok.

Silkierabbit · 02/08/2022 00:12

Glad you have moved fine DrTwo and you have a cat on the bed.

Hope you can get away Lemons

Good luck with maths course Prok

Thanks Math Hope you can find a way to have sedation

Glad you got some rain MissC We rarely have that issue here.

Floof came briefly on the bed when a new sheet was put on just to make it his. He stretched out along the whole sheet width looking very proud of himself. He also has taken to sitting on Silkiecat's shelf on the stairs.

Had some homemade cupcakes tonight which was nice and just heard footsteps downstairs so I reckon DS was off for some midnight cakes. 😂And just heard him off again, probably second round of midnight cakes at only 12.06am. At this rate he will have more breakfasts than Floof.

We have to put the things out for council collection tomorrow night. Just checked Premium Bonds and won £50 this month.

DoctorTwo · 02/08/2022 09:05

Cats make things better Silkie.

Silkierabbit · 02/08/2022 10:03

Cats definitely do make things better DrTwo Though Floof's footballing from 2am to 3.30am all round the house was entertaining and cute but reminded me of sleepless nights with a young baby. I guess he is only 5 months but feel a bit shattered this morning, he is so lovely though. And checked on cakes in the night DS ate 7 of them around midnight.

Silkierabbit · 03/08/2022 02:13

Its 2.12am and Floof has decided its the perfect time for his first breakfast and a game of football on my bed. He is trilling a lot.

mathanxiety · 03/08/2022 02:56

I've sorted out a lift, so sedation it is.

DoctorTwo great news. Hope you're feeling a bit more comfortable.

MissConductUS · 03/08/2022 15:38

Wise choice, Math. Some people are okay without it, but the risk is that some patients find it so painful that they have to halt the procedure, then everything has to be rescheduled. Hopefully, you will get propofol, which wears off very quickly.

Silkie, our dgirlcat used to jump on the bed at ungodly hours when she decided that she wanted an early breakfast. I broke her of this habit by picking her up and tossing her off the bed, then going back to sleep. I haven't made cupcakes in ages, but with DS home, any baked goods disappear quickly.

DS's car needed new front brake pads and rotors, but it passed inspection after those were replaced. I have to ring the restaurant with a seat count for his graduation party on Saturday. We're going to pick up DD at uni Thursday evening instead of Friday, so we'll have her home for a bit longer.

OP posts:
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 03/08/2022 18:10

Silkie I hope you are feeling ok.

I am happy to say that the cake turned out fine and was ready at the time it was supposed to.
DS is off to do a reading at a library, sth. to do with ETA Hoffmann and DD is out with a friend to a Greek restaurant.
A work mate of DD brought her dog into the office today, DD only noticed when it licked her toes under the table Grin.

HelenaJustina · 04/08/2022 07:32

Good luck with the maths Prok that’s exactly the kind of thing I would do too, and be unreasonably excited/pleased with myself - no doubt thoroughly irritating the child who was supposed to be doing the course. Great news about the cake, it’s always tricky with a new oven.

We’re off on holiday tomorrow, DH will want to leave ridiculously early we can’t get into the house until 4pm and the teenage DC will push back. So that’ll be a relaxing start to the week 🫤
The list of things to do today before we leave is so long - and DC1 has a driving experience and I have an appointment to get school shoes for 3/4 DC, both of which I could have done without today. If anyone finds me on here procrastinating today, they have my permission to kick me off!

Plastichanger · 04/08/2022 20:13

I hope you are ok Silkies.

I’m so pleased the cake turned out well, Prok

Have a wonderful holiday Helena!

I forgot that I meant to go for a walk after dinner today so here I am stuck on the sofa eating ice cream.
