I don't think it's worth it Miss; none of my symptoms are any worse than having a bad cold, and I'm not in any high risk groups, so I'll just let it run it's course. The most annoying thing was that I had 4 assorted appointments for this week, and I've had to cancel them all!

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 27/07/2022 10:11

@Deathraystare this morning she relied on her phone to wake her and was still abed at 8am so I fear this morning she was late, like you her earphone were plugged n to the phone so I suspect that was the problem.

Plastichanger · 27/07/2022 11:17

Well done with the progress on the new oven Prok . I look forward to reading about all the Christmas cookies you will bake in the shiny new oven this year.

Your reaction is perfectly normal - my son is an adult now and I still hate it when he has a haircut and all his lovely curls disappear.

I ventured out of the house yesterday and plan to do so again tomorrow so today will be a rest day thanks to post covid tiredness.

MissConductUS · 27/07/2022 19:33

My surgery has been scheduled for the 2nd of September. Apparently, there are no slots available in the outpatient surgery center they can guarantee until then. I would have preferred sooner, but it's good to have it booked. My insurance approved it immediately, and it won't cost me anything.

DS figured out yesterday that he now has enough university credit hours to take the CPA exam and doesn't need to take any more in August, so he's pretty pleased about that. He had forgotten about two courses he took in high school for which he was given college credit. Two more people have said they're coming to his graduation party, so he's pleased about that too.

Plastic, two people I work with are out with covid now. It's either a miracle that I've never had it or I've had an asymptomatic case and didn't know it.

The high viz roadwork men have been busy today laying asphalt, so the end is in sight for that particular bother.

Thanks all for making me feel not so silly.

aways good to get out if you can plastic I think being outside heals.

2nd of September will be here before you know it although not too quickly as that will mean me being back in work.

Today had child we have on short break care for the day and night tonight. We went swimming, made brownies did shopping and am now very tired. Ds had nurseryX.

HelenaJustina · 28/07/2022 10:13

I have been a good parent and booked swimming for 3xDC this afternoon. I will have to go with them as eldest DC isn’t going, and I don’t quite trust second one down to supervise the youngest. Blurgh…

DoctorTwo · 28/07/2022 16:49

Booked my phone in to have front and rear screens replaced. A bargain at £85.00.

mathanxiety · 28/07/2022 17:11

I went for my annual checkup on Wednesday and now have a mammogram and colonoscopy booked for 10th and 3rd August, respectively. I'm not looking forward to either, but I feel it's better to get it all over with in a short timeframe.

Our delightful summer weather continues to surprise us. Warm temperatures with low humidity are so unusual here. It's usually blisteringly hot and unbearably humid in the last stretch of summer.

In deck news, my hibiscus has developed five buds, and the unidentified scraggly pepper plant that I bought for 99c at the supermarket and resurrected in a new pot has produced two chili-like peppers.

Good to hear your DS won't have to slog through summer school, MissC. My DD has one full week left of her two courses, then about two and a half weeks before she's back to start her senior year.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/07/2022 18:56

A work mate brought in honey from his own bees. Lovely!

Tomorrow DD sits her last exam for this semester and on the 1st she starts her mandatory short "Praktikum" (google says internship, but it is not quite the same I think).
I need to be at the doctor's to have my blood taken.

Silkierabbit · 28/07/2022 20:31

Plastic glad you are largely recovered from covid.

Prok Hope your DDs exam goes well.

Math Good luck getting through all those medical checks.

MissC Glad you have a surgery date.

DrTwo Glad you finally escaped hospital.

Iwandered Orchids are lovely.

Hope having the child goes well Lemons

Well done on the swimming Helena

DD has been working at the punting job and enjoying it. DH is wfh but had a headache today. I hoovered most of the house yesterday, awaiting radio starting on 4th and trying to get help for DS but not getting anywhere. Call with LA tomorrow for DS but about the 15th one. DH is just putting the bins out. Watching Below Deck Med on Hayu. DH will rearrange his dentists from 9th as I have radiotherapy until 10th.

Lemonsandlemonade · 28/07/2022 20:56

Silkie yeah it did thanks it’s very full on balancing his needs and DS’ but the bond they are building is beautiful. The punting job sounds lovely Silkie. Be my cup of tea.

DoctorTwo that’s a really good price.

MissConductUS · 28/07/2022 21:15

Helena, I suspect you are always a good parent.

Doctor, that does sound like a bargain. I don't think I've ever seen a phone with a front and rear screen. If you can only see one at a time what's the point of having two?

Math, have you had a colonoscopy before? If not, don't try to do it awake. Ask for propofol. DS took three courses online in June and July, so I agree, he deserves a break.

Prok, good luck to your DD with her exam.

Silkie, good luck with your call tomorrow. I hope you're making some progress.

DS and two of his old friends from high school have secured tickets to a New York Yankees baseball game tonight so that it will be just me and DH home for dinner tonight. The three of them are taking the train to the stadium.

My car and our old Impreza that DS drives are due for their annual inspection in August. We'll get the oil changed at the same time. DH has booked the appointments at the dealership.

Sending positive vibes for the call with the LA tomorrow Silkies

I wonder if ‘Praktikum’ is similar to work experience that UK students used to do? Not sure if they still do it here anymore.

Thanks all for the reassurances about the covid and post covid symptoms. I went out today as planned and all went well apart from dropping a large watermelon on the pavement. Was so close to making it to the car! It cracked but didn’t smoosh so I picked it up and we are now making our way through a mountain of watermelon.

P.S. the crack was on the top and side so there was no contact between the inside of the watermelon and the pavement.

DoctorTwo · 29/07/2022 07:27

Miss as both front and rear panels are made from glass, both are badly shattered. To replace the front panel the rear panel has to come off first and will not stay in one piece. This is the one design feature of my phone I don't like, the back panel on my last Nokia was Aluminium, and this was an 'upgrade'. So £85 to replace both panels as opposed to £120 to get a 2nd hand model is a touch. New versions of the phone are about £400, so it's a no brainer. Repair should take about 2 hours, so I'm happy.

Good luck with the LA today Silkie, you are a great mum who's trying more than her best fo her child, it must be exhausting to have to do all this against the odds. All my best to you. Sounds like Mr Floof almost has you all trained already. Good work, cat.

I had a haircut yesterday, just a simple buzzcut all over, it's a massive improvement on my yeti lite look. I like it.

IWanderedLonely · 29/07/2022 07:55

As promised, my orchids. No idea how they've survived to re-flower.

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 23: Calmly through the day
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/07/2022 11:45

iwandered They look lovely (I onley ever get stalks).

The oven is there and installed. More about it after I've tested it.

sueelleker · 29/07/2022 12:19

Just harvested my salad potatoes. I grew them for the first time this year, in 2 potato growbags; just to see if I could. I've got just over 3lbs of them, which is plenty, as I live on my own.

MissConductUS · 29/07/2022 16:07

What do you plan to make with the potatoes, Sue? My favorite potatoes, Yukon Gold potatoes, are waxy and firm like salad potatoes.

The New York Yankees beat the Kansas City Royals in a 1 - 0 squeaker last night, and DS had a good time at the game with his mates. The Yankees are on fire this year.

I can't believe DS's graduation party is a week from tomorrow. We're picking up DD from uni on Friday.

Mine are Charlotte. I haven't got anything particular in mind-probably just boiled.

halfpasteleven · 29/07/2022 22:54

Hope your phone is back up and running Doctor.

Silkie, I hope you made some progress with the LA call today- you are as inspiring as ever and I wish you well and am behind you 100%.

Glad you got a date Miss, and hope it all goes well for you.

Your potato haul sounds impressive Sue, would you recommend the grow bags? I've never tried it but I'd like to..

sueelleker · 30/07/2022 09:01

Yes, they worked very well. I got these from amazon, and they're fabric. The idea is that you can open the flap at the front to check the potatoes, and to harvest them. I ended up just lifting them from inside, but the fabric does mean that you can see how much water you've given them-I kept watering until it started coming through the bag, so I knew they'd had plenty.

HildaTablet · 30/07/2022 10:39

That’s a good harvest, Sue, and Charlotte is a nice variety.
I didn’t bother with any potatoes this year but when I emptied out the soil from my bags last year, I must have missed a couple of potatoes - they’ve sprouted in the veg patch and I’ve got a decent haul of new spuds now.

In other boring news, DH bought new clippers for haircuts - I do his hair and beard, have done for years, and must have saved £££££ in the process. The new clippers are much smaller than the old ones but they’re cordless and very light and manoeuvrable. Anyway he seemed happy with the result, which basically involves me cutting everything very short all over!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 30/07/2022 10:46

Sue I think we have the same bags - I did a small potato experiment last season - inspired by rewatching 'The Martian'. Enjoy your harvest.

The new oven has been installed. The men who came did a splendid job seeing that our kitchen fits the general state of our flat. They were slightly "saddened" having to deliver a less than perfect job as a consequence (I gathered as much from the part of the conservation I could understand).
I will bake a trial cake this afternoon. DH has already managed to let his apricots boil over.

sueelleker · 30/07/2022 10:49

I meant to post a link to the bags. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0983YWK7W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 30/07/2022 11:40

I haver the smaller variety - the 3-pack.
