Apologies that the prior thread filled up before I could create this one. Hopefully everyone will find it. Lurkers are of course welcome to unlurk.

We've had a hot, humid, and stormy weekend here. Rain woke me in the small hours on Saturday morning and it rained heavily this morning too. Ive had to take my deck plants off their saucers to let them drain. It currently feels like 98°F outdoors and the heat index will be high next week too.

I made it to the farmer's market in time for doughnuts on Saturday morning and managed to do a passable job on my hair with a box of dye when I got home.

I emptied the hummingbird feeder and cleaned all the drowned ants out of it, and it's now back in the tree off the deck.

Next up - laundry.
We'll be having fish, couscous, and veggies roasted in the airfryer for dinner.

DoctorTwo · 25/07/2022 11:45

Thank you Silkie and Miss for your reassuring words, which I will take with me. All your photos are lovely, showing me ho much summer I have missed by being here. Should be out later today. With a drain still in. Ouch

Silkierabbit · 25/07/2022 14:27

Hope you escape later today DrTwo, shame about the drain but good to escape and hope you can enjoy some of the summer.

Lovely pics MissC

House is lovely Prok

Glad you saw your DM Lemons

Nice meal Math

Last night there were two buzzy flies and one buzzy Floof jumping after them, never have flies then as soon as want to go to sleep that happens. [roll] Floof thought it was great but found an even better game to play today cat nut mouthball where people throw his cat nuts and he chases them and then eats them. DD was putting them on top of my wardrobe so he jumped up on there to get them.

Plastichanger · 25/07/2022 14:57

I hope you have made your escape Dr if not, let us know and we can organise baking a file into a cake and sending it to you.

I am sitting round doing nothing other than browsing the web as I still get really tired all the time after stupid covid.

DoctorTwo · 25/07/2022 15:41

What I have noticed as an i-patient is that I have slowed down somewhat. This is now being brought up as to WHY I SHOULD UNDER NO CIRCUMSTACES DRIVE MYSELF HOME.Indeed, a nurse has just bee alog and more or less said it, and a doctor from the surgical team as awaitig a reply from the registrar. It's all bollocks, I've driven myself home quite a few times from hospital i-patient visits before, just ot one lsting almost 5 weeks. Harrumph.

DoctorTwo · 25/07/2022 15:42

Oops, 'scuse typos. Blush

HelenaJustina · 25/07/2022 16:47

Am on hold, there is nothing duller.

My personal record is 2hr15 to get through to the DfE. This call is to 119, they will not defeat me…

IWanderedLonely · 25/07/2022 20:18

We had a new bird in our back garden earlier and I don't know what it was. Thought it might be a thrush except it's breast wasn't mottled at all and it's beak was curved. RSPB website was no help either.
My orchid is just starting to flower. I'll take a pic in a day or two when it's properly out, nothing special but I'm amazed, orchids always die in my care as a rule.

MissConductUS · 25/07/2022 21:16

Helena, google tells me that DfE is Department for Education. Shouldn't that be the Department of Education? 119 is your NHS covid number, correct? Government phone lines are swamped here too. God help you if you need help as a taxpayer from the Internal Revenue Service.

Iwandered, I can only identify about half of the birds on our feeder. We have a lot of bird species in our area.

DS has gotten accepted by our local community college to take the courses he wants in August, so that's good news. I think he's still deciding what to take.

I was able to book my presurgical exam. My GP rang me herself to schedule it, which was nice.

I got out eventually at about 1830 and drove home via Morrisons for petrol without incident, Hurrah for me.

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 26/07/2022 06:18

daughter wanted an alarm call at 6am, a time at which I am not normally out of bed. Her phone was on charge downstairs and therefore she couldn't use it as usual. I just woke her up bang on six am I am an awesome mother / alarm clock.

Lemonsandlemonade · 26/07/2022 07:22

Glad you got home ok Doctor Two.

How - why does your DD want to be up at 6? I’m sooo not a morning person so I wouldn’t be up at 6 out of choice!!

DS going though a right tantrum stage. I understand why usually it’s coz he can’t have something like my phone or the remote control.

Miss C 119 is Covid related but could be vaccine too I think!

DfE is indeed Department for Education.

In boring news plan to take DS to park today he also has his first hair cut 🙈 not sure I’m ready though for it!

sueelleker · 26/07/2022 10:08

I tested Covid positive on Sunday, and tried to report the result on-line. Only trouble was, they want the identification number printed on the test; and since I live on my own and am still recovering from cataract surgery I couldn't read the blasted thing!

Lemonsandlemonade · 26/07/2022 10:41

Aww Sue oh no are you ok? Have you everything you need? Thats crazy they need the number. must be a simpler way.

MissConductUS · 26/07/2022 13:47

Sue, sorry to hear about your covid result. How are you feeling? Don't worry about not reporting, lots of people just skip it.

sueelleker · 26/07/2022 13:50

Yes thanks Lemons; my main symptom seems to be more catarrh than it seems possible to produce! My cupboards and freezer are always well stocked. I am getting filthy looks from my dogs for not taking them out though!
They have their dog-walker tomorrow, and I've got a garden; so they'll cope.

Deathraystare · 26/07/2022 18:06

Had an ok week. Had to go to Victoria to pick up my coach as there were road ups as I call them in my usual pick up place. On the way back the driver said he would check if the road was clear. It was! Mind you, he went right past it and decided to drop me off at the bus/tube station, outside. So I had to quickly scrabble off (well as quickly as a rheumaticcy oldie can!).

I decided now was the time to treat myself to some perfume (Dior Hypnotic Poison). Luckily I got it in Boots because they reminded me I had enough points to pay with them! Saved me £52. So happy. Went to a smaller branch this morning to pick up my prescription as saw an Oral B rechargeable tooth brush for £20. Bought it, looked at the receipt outside and it had been further reduced to £10! Now all I need to do is find my plug that takes that two pronged thingy.......

MissConductUS · 26/07/2022 18:37

DeathRay, I have a Philips Sonicare toothbrush that I adore. The electric ones really do a better job. That's an amazing deal you got.

I got passed over by a low-flying helicopter today while walking at lunchtime. It must have been the CIA.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 26/07/2022 19:31

Lots of heavy rain here today, to protect his chilis DH has taken three of them in. They lived on our dining table until things got better.

Doc Good that you managed to escape.

Now for something not too exciting:
I have told you about our cooker / baking oven, the half working one, about which DH said it is still good for a couple of years.
Well, "steter Tropfen höhlt den Stein" and on Friday the new one will be delivered and installed. It looks just like the old one but has a much better energy label.

Lemonsandlemonade · 26/07/2022 19:58

Wow Death Ray that’s good re perfume and toothbrush.

Having a silly wobble here probably PFB but DS had first haircut. My baby is now a little boy. In my defence he is my miracle baby and I will not have another.

HelenaJustina · 26/07/2022 21:13

That’s a big thing lemons did you keep a lock of hair? My nephew had a mullet for ages as my sister couldn’t bear to get his baby hair cut!

Sorry to hear you’ve been struck down sue hope it is short-lived and you feel much better soon.

I bypassed the 119/GP surgery hold ridiculousness by sending a WhatsApp to my SiL who is a GP. I do it v rarely as I don’t like to, but needs must sometimes!

MissConductUS · 26/07/2022 21:20

Lemons, that's a lovely milestone. I love it when DH and DS go out to get haircuts together. It's a bonding experience.

Prok, congratulations on your new cooker/oven/stove/hob. We had to replace a part on ours when the oven wouldn't heat up. I was worried we'd need to replace the whole thing and I love our current one. And appliance prices are way up.

Sue, can you get a prescription for Paxlovid, the covid anti-viral medication? President Biden is currently taking it.

Greetings all. Work has been shall we say challenging today. I have come home late and must return tomorrow to several tasks unfinished from today.
I love watching the birds on my feeders Miss - I do know the species as we generally only have sparrows, starlings, a pair of doves and occasionally, to my delight, a charm of goldfinches!

Deathraystare · 27/07/2022 08:01

@Lemonsandlemonade

I remember being quite sad when my two young nephews had their beautiful curls cut off but then my SIL told me they asked for the haircuts!!

@MissConductUS

Yes I am really chuffed re perfume and Toothbrush. I had forgotten I had so many points on my card. In the bad old days when I was unemployed I used to buy sanpro with my points so never had many points on my card before.

Deathraystare · 27/07/2022 08:02

@howdoesatoastermaketoast

How I wish you had woken me at 5am! I was on an early shift. I had set my phone alarm but fell asleep listening to stuff on You Tube with headphones in!

After rushing around this morning I was actually just on time!
