New hi-viz observations
I have seen a Neon in hi-viz T-shirts replacing pipes.

MissConductUS · 21/07/2022 16:49

Welcome, @Madbadandusuallysad , and thanks for sharing your village infrastructure repair news. It has been very dry here for the last six weeks or so, so I wouldn't be surprised if my neighbors and I collected free water from an open source like that. We got half an inch of rain on Tuesday, so I hope that saves our lawn from dying.

I've left a message with the surgeon's nurse asking about my surgical scheduling. She hasn't called me back.

It's still hot here. I'm about to venture out anyway for a walk.

I wonder if the HT thinks there would be contagion if the staff knew you were leaving, Helena. Maybe she's waiting to tell them until it's too late for them to get another job for the coming year. Or maybe she wants to make you look as if you jumped ship at the last minute, leaving chaos in your wake? I think I would be tempted to say goodbye to colleagues you are close to, not wait for the HT.

Fine hot weather here. Not quite as hot as the UK has been, but close enough. Shops are full of school supplies and uniform items. DD's summer courses are more than half done.

I went to the doctor for my annual checkup yesterday. Had a pap smear and routine blood tests done and got referrals for both a mammogram and (yikes) colonoscopy. Both can be done locally.

DoctorTwo · 22/07/2022 12:33

I had a 'sort of' release date today of next Monday 25/7. But, they want me in twice a week for blood tests until September 5th, when I'm due back in to see how leaky my pancreas still is and whether they still need to fix the hole in my diaphragm. My own prognoses are yes, it's still leaky, and yes, they will need to operate. Oh well, just another bridge to cross. At least I'll be unconscious when it happens... And grateful when it's done and dusted.

Silkierabbit · 22/07/2022 13:00

Hope last day went OK Helena I suspect current Head wants you to change your mind and stay. Either that or they live in la-la land where problems never happen. Or both.

Good luck with all those medical tests Math

Floof has yesterday learned how to get on top of my wardrobe by jumping on my chest of drawers then jumping on my wardrobe. He then decided to jump down from the wardrobe which is about 2 metres high in 1 go on to a portable step we have which has his food on and landed half on it bottom half off it. Looked at me ruffled then walked off. He was happy in the night when I walked over to him twice and he started purring a lot.

DH has gone into work for a couple of hours.

DD is loving her new job. Her results are out 25th August. DS we still have no education plan for September and basically nothing past 6 weeks education wise. Ed pscy has recommended an immediate change of school but LA do not operate that fast and can only do for around start November time which is far from ideal given he's in a GCSE year. They are saying he may have to go back a year but are now approaching private mainstreams as well as the full state mainstreams who will all say no as full. Complete chaos. Have filed for legal action but big delays on that too but keeps pressure up. School are saying he cannot go back until ed psych reintegration plan, ed pscyh said no point as their actions show won't help so he has not met them and they are now closed. LA says send him back anyway and ignore school. School say will call police. LA said police will get bored of this quickly which is true but gosh could do without this shambles. DS is very distressed by it all and did not eat much for 2 weeks but have him eating again at least but he is hiding from everyone sent round which just started last week.

10 days until radiotherapy starts, will be good when that is done then just the hormone tablets and 1 operation for reconstruction to go which there is a 1 to 2 year wait for.

Silkierabbit · 22/07/2022 13:03

Hope you can get back home on Monday DrTwo and hope the operation goes as well as it can and isn't too delayed.

HelenaJustina · 22/07/2022 19:10

Keep going silkie your boy absolutely needs you to carry on being the amazing advocate you are being.

Suspect both silkie and math are correct in their assessment of current Head. In denial, wanting it to make like I’m leaving the place in the lurch and hoping that ignoring the problem makes it go away. But I worked with a fab colleague today, got loads done. Back in next Tuesday and Friday and then that is definitely it.

We’re all out off for dinner to a local Italian (non chain) to celebrate the end of term.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 22/07/2022 19:11

"Ich hab' Rücken" the traditional phrase used when your back reacts with pain because of your lifestyle. Im my case deskwork for 50 hours / week and using the muscles that you need for typing and moving the mouse.
My GP recommends: walking, biking, regular exercise during work, and deep heat cream + plus the occasional ibuprofen.
Yay!

Plastichanger · 22/07/2022 19:33

Just reading that is so frustrating and upsetting Silkies and I can only imagine what you and your family is going through.

Dr I hope you won’t be in discomfort until they eventually rule out everything else and carry out the operation you need.

A couple of hours after putting out the washing today, I noticed that the patio was wet because it had rained while wasn’t paying attention. Weirdly the washing was still almost dry. I think I win with the most dull news.

MissConductUS · 22/07/2022 19:57

Silkie, Mr Floof will not stop until he has conquered every inch of your his house. The ongoing saga of finding a school placement for your DS is extraordinarily unfair. It's as if the system is designed to be unaccountable.

Prok, your GP is correct. That's why I try to walk and ride my stationary bike daily.

Doctor, I agree with your prognosis. The hole in your diaphragm isn't going to close itself. You're stretching it non-stop just by breathing.

The timing on my surgery is becoming somewhat more explicit. The way the outpatient surgery suites are organized is that each surgeon has blocks of time for their exclusive use. His next block that works for me isn't until 2nd September. But he and I both want to have it on 17th August. This may be possible as any unbooked blocks are released to any surgeon a week before that date. And during the summer, many surgeons take annual leave. So there's a good chance that 17th August will work, but I won't know for sure until the 10th.

Just to complicate things, my GP doesn't have any time open to do my presurgical physical during the required time. I'm waiting on a call from her nurse to see if I can be shoehorned in any way. I may have to have another doctor or nurse practitioner do it, which isn't ideal but would solve the problem.

Miss Yes Miss, I know she is right and luckily I enjoy walking, but I have at least 7 years left at my desk.

Silkie Their inability to provide your DS with a school place is infuriating

Today we got a letter that DS missed his appointment at the jobcenter - we never got the appointment or the zoom link. But at least I have now the name of the person handling his number and wrote a slightly PA mail asking for a new appointment.

Silkierabbit · 22/07/2022 23:47

Floof is going everywhere and purrs when he is photographed and poses for more.

Hope you can get jobcentre sorted easily Prok

Hope you can get the earlier surgery MissC

Thanks Plastic Yes you win the dullest news.

Thanks Helena Hope you had a nice Italian meal.

DS and I had a cottage pie with peas and DS ate it, DH was very happy.

Hi all been away and trying to catch up. We had a lovely little family holiday. Beautiful spot. Arrived home yesterday but already feeling stressed about work even though we have 6 weeks off.

silkie glad you have got dates for radiotherapy. How long is the tutor supposed to stay for DS?

Helena what would your head do if the secret slipped out?

She emailed all staff after the school day had begun on the last day of term. I was off site at a meeting so hadn’t seen that it has been sent, so walked back in to shock and awe. It’s been a horrible way to leave somewhere but confirmed I was doing the right thing.

In dull news, I’m having a v lazy start to the day and need to go for a run but now it’s sunny and I’ll get hot and urghhhh I don’t want to go!

Silkierabbit · 23/07/2022 11:57

Glad you had a lovely holiday Lemons We have not been told how long tutor is for Lemons, all I know is they do not operate over summer.

Hope new job goes well Helena

DH and DD are off to town getting DDs boat shoes for her job then she does a shift today.

DoctorTwo · 23/07/2022 12:06

Silkie I am slightly worried terrified by the prospect of an operation but than I remember what you (and others) have been through and now I have to man up 'cos it needs doing. No running away from it. A nurse took a blood sample from me like she was digging for truffles now I have a broken vein. Ouch. /self pity central.

Silkierabbit · 23/07/2022 13:41

Sorry its terrifying DrTwo I was really terrified with the cancer treatment but when the choice is that or death you kind of just have to carry on. Definitely not keep calm and carry on or being strong, more like keep being terrified but carry on. Just taking it day by day helps, thinking what do I need to get through this day and distraction like trash TV/music/pretending its not happening, and good thing about surgery is they knock you out for it.

With the veins they said to me drink loads before (I used to drink 1.5 litres pre chemo) and keep warm and tapping on the vein just before can also help. Some nurses are so much better than others at it. It can be worth saying I have got really bad veins to the nurse then sometimes they get a different nurse who is better at difficult veins. There are also options like a picc if they really can't get to them but I got through all my chemo without one, helps having neuropathy as I don't feel pain of cannulas often.

Hope it all goes OK.

MissConductUS · 23/07/2022 16:53

Silkie, that is the poofiest tail I have ever seen. He does look happy to sit for pictures.

Lemons, lovely pictures and so nice that you were able to get away for a bit.

DoctorTwo, all surgery is serious, but closing a hole in your diaphragm is about as simple as it gets. I'll sure you'll do fine. As Silkie said, stay hydrated to keep your veins more accessible. They'll likely do an IV drip for your surgery.

Helena, good for you to be moving on. Be prepared that anything that goes wrong at your old school for the next year or two will be your fault somehow.

I have neglected to take the Saturday photo of the planters. Perhaps later.

I tried to do my errands early as the forecast is for temps of 39-40C later today. We have a brand new Trader Joe's store just open in my area, so I went there this morning. It's quirky but fabulous.

OP posts:
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 23/07/2022 17:28

I just found out that Trader Joe's belongs to Aldi (Aldi Nord ) since 1979. I googled because we have some Trader Joe's stuff in our cupbord, too Grin

It is cool-ish and windy here, 24°C max - predictions for the next week are moderate. The crow arrived with a piece of old Schrippe which he (I decided it is male) dunked into the water to soften it up. He also hid peanuts im my geraniums.

MissConductUS · 24/07/2022 12:06

Prok, I had heard that it was owned by Aldi. Aldi has stores here too, but non near me. It's a wonderful store.

We have an 8:45 reservation to pick blueberries before it gets too hot. I took the deck picture late yesterday afternoon, so the sun looks different than usual. I normally take them in the early morning. As you can see, the planters continue to thrive.

Miss Lovely shady deck (?) and the planter looks great. I am about to restock my flower pots with 'late bloomers' as the early summer plants have gone to seed.

MissConductUS · 24/07/2022 18:01

Prok, is that the building where you live? It's beautiful.

It was hot picking the blueberries, but not terribly so and there was a nice breeze. They've now put nets over the blueberry plants to protect them from the birds. Here's a picture of our shopping from the farm store. They had no apple caramel bread, so we gave the peach raspberry bread a try and it is delicious.

I have a loaf of blueberry bread in the oven. Thank goodness I have a large freezer.

Miss Sadly no. I live in a classical Berliner Mietskaserne built in 1907 see passage on Berlin. It only got minor bomb damage and was modernized in the late 20th century.
Have a look at the drawings of Heinrich Zille English
The house in the picture is in Warburg first mentioned as an enclosed city in 1036.

Lemonsandlemonade · 24/07/2022 21:03

More Blueberries MissC? You must love them in your family.

What a beautiful house Prok. I would love to revisit Germany sometime I went when I was six and remember a very long drive we came down from France and drove though to Germany. My mum and dad were mental in my opinion. Driving all that way with three children in the car.

I remember going to Baden Baden. The name made me chuckle still does to be honest.

That must have been hard with work Helena but things happen for a reason I believe.

Saw DM today she hasn’t seen DS for a week. He loves his Grandma.

MissConductUS · 24/07/2022 21:53

We do love blueberries, Lemons. I would have rather picked cherries, but they're not available now. A lot of it is that it's a lovely drive in the country, a way of getting out of the house and something we can all do together. But I think we are approaching blueberry saturation. I now have two loaves of blueberry bread in the freezer and may have to freeze some of what we picked this morning. Fortunately, blueberries freeze beautifully.

It's 99.8F on our deck. We have our family zoom call shortly, then will cook out. We have 16 confirmed attendees for DS's graduation party, so that's good. He'll get lots of gifts, and of course, we will pay for the party. 🙂
