I don't think she had a lot of cash and dear Mick wanted her to move out of the (immensely valuable) house on Richmond Hill when she reached 60. Frankly, character wise, she's not a great chooser of men. So hoping she'll get a payoff from this one as RM will put stop on any fundraising 'My Story' books.

Yeah, this. Jerry was a very successful model in the mid-seventies. Bryan Ferry booked her for an album cover and she started going out with him then, she was only 18 or something, he was 30. Then he went away on tour, after they got engaged, and Mick Jagger - still married to Bianca - seduced her away.

By this time her modelling career was being kept alive by her association with famous men. She would have still got work, but not at the same level. Most models’ careers only last about five years. So she must have seen the benefits of being involved with rich, successful partners.

(She isn’t from a rich family. Her father was an army veteran who worked as a truck driver.)

She still did bits of stuff associated with modelling in the 1980s, but not much. Some Bovril print ads etc. That won’t have brought in loads of money. She wrote a few books and appeared on chat shows, by dint of being Jagger’s partner, but the money will have been earned by Jagger. She was having children with him by the mid-80s.

He only capitulated to the Balinese ceremony in 1990 because she caught him having an affair with Carla Bruni and he wanted to keep her sweet.

What this means is, by the time she split from Jagger in 1999 she wouldn’t have been earning any real money, of her own, for around twenty years. She was financially vulnerable (relatively speaking of course). The settlement (not a divorce, because they weren’t legally married) was confidential but was estimated at about £11 million. Which will have included the right to live in one of his houses until some point in the future, but what was she to do after that? £11m less the value of the interest in the house less provision for four children won’t see you through the rest of your life in comfort when you live her life.

She did some reality stuff, clearly for the money. She won’t have wanted to end up like Marie Helvin, with whom she was regularly photographed in the 1980s: both women had been successful models in the 1970s and had become involved with rich and famous men (David Bailey, in Marie’s case). From that point, their access to the social life they liked was dependent on those men. Marie Helvin, who was divorced from Bailey in the 1980s, gave an interview to a magazine a couple of years ago and sounds unhappy, living modestly and living in the past.

I can see exactly why Jerry married Murdoch. She gets to be the glamorous hostess living a jet set life, oodles of cash, back in the league she was in when she was with Jagger but with the added advantage of marriage to protect her. He obviously likes having a woman on his arm, and organising his private life. She’d have done very well in the job, which is what it was. I am, of course, team Jerry.

RoseLunarPink · 24/06/2022 11:18

She seems to be not one to change her name (another plus point IMO) but I've just realised that if she was, when she was engaged to him she would have become Jerry Ferry.

SwedishEdith · 24/06/2022 21:23

Bryan Ferry really really got into the Avalon thing, didn't he? Kids called Tara and Merlin.

Jerry Hall reportedly ‘heartbroken’ after end of marriage to Rupert Murdoch
Hall was waiting in UK for Murdoch to join her when he sent email saying marriage was over, say reports. 😶

Nicolarer · 02/07/2022 12:47

I know he was at a wedding rehearsal last night. I am not sure whether he was accompanied.

Nicolarer · 02/07/2022 12:48

Btw it wasn't his wedding rehearsal a female relatives

ivykaty44 · 02/07/2022 13:10

I actually think in the case of these two particular individuals it's such a shame.....

EachandEveryone · 02/07/2022 13:32

I saw them once in London. He certainly has an air about him even at that age there is something. She was beaming it looked genuine.

ivykaty44 · 02/07/2022 13:48

He certainly has an air about him

repugnant?

boatahoy · 02/07/2022 14:16

Just watched the video clip pp posted earlier, I had forgotten how beautiful JH was when she was younger. She always come across as a lovely person too.

RM truly is a vile man to end their marriage by email and advise her that she is only allowed to contact him through lawyers according to what's been reported - so cruel. I hope Jerry finds true peace and happiness. RM never will with such a personality

CPL593H · 02/07/2022 15:56

Various accounts that the adult children didn't like her "over protection" of him during the worst of Covid and also concerns about the amount she would get in his will (I find the latter scenario very plausible) Who knows really but if true, the email thing is foul behaviour.

Interesting too that she has filed in California.

DenholmElliot1 · 02/07/2022 18:10

Would she get a better settlement in California perhaps?

I'd say she'll get a lot less money from a divorce than she would as a widow.

I wonder if Murdock has had some kind of bad news about his health recently that has prompted all this.

FootontheHeartbreak · 02/07/2022 18:15

He has ended the marriage not her. She filed for divorce when he told her it was over apparently. Strange. She claims she’s heartbroken.

CPL593H · 02/07/2022 19:23

I have a hazy recollection that California is more generous in divorce settlements (could be wrong)

Imagine she is determined that it is not going to be a rerun of the Jagger imbroglio where he basically walked on her.

EachandEveryone · 02/07/2022 21:58

Have you got BBC2 on now? Its a documentary they are all on it. Mick was gorgeous in the 60’s

RoseWindow · 03/07/2022 18:50

Oh that’s a shame if the kids or legacy worries spoilt the relationship. I would be mortified if I was in my final years and my kids were openly scrapping over my millions before I’d even died. Gross.

Pedallleur · 03/07/2022 19:55

It's all set up supposedly to the 4 children from the first two marriages. They run the empire.

FootontheHeartbreak · 03/07/2022 22:18

I don’t think JH is short of a Bob or two.

WITL · 03/07/2022 22:21

DenholmElliot1 · 22/06/2022 23:49

I've always liked Jerry Hall. I genuinely believe that she married Murdock for love.

They have a pre nup and all his money was tied up in trust for the children. She sounds like she loved him and he is just horrendous. Dumping her by email. I guess you could have worked out from his history that he is a narcissist

FootontheHeartbreak · 03/07/2022 22:28

He sounds like Charles Saatchi.

Pedallleur · 05/07/2022 14:21

Phil Collins did it by fax with his 2nd wife as I recall. maybe thats how it is in rich man world.

No, I think I it’s just how cowards end relationships!

Iamthewombat · 11/08/2022 21:32

He has settled to avoid an embarrassing court case. Jerry is living at his vineyard apparently, maybe she’ll get that on top of what the pre nuptial agreement provided for.

CPL593H · 11/08/2022 22:53

I think she rattled him by filing first and doing it in California. I think she's quite a survivor so hope she can dust herself off quickly (BTW Jerry, Bryan is still mine, you had your chance Grin)
