A thing that you can get lots of other things for.

Yes, this.

So when my eldest was a baby we got a ver ver posh pram and it had loads of extras available. Accessories. I loved buying the little bits for it, I had a cup holder and special mittens.

Then when the kids were a bit older I got a tent and loads of extra bits - internal bedrooms, lights etc. Thing was we all hated camping so really the only joy was my setting it all up in the garden and playing with it.

Then I had a campervan, same thing, loved buying extras and laying them all out and reorganising. Apparently I’ve always done this with my toys and dollies since I was a child.

Now I’m in my 50s I need a new thing. I tried kitchen wear, it didn’t do it for me as I don’t like cooking very much, although I do feel more smug when I put my frozen dinners in a Le Creuset casserole dish.

Im fully aware I sound like a sad fucker but please indulge me. What else is a thing that you can get other things for. Also please don’t say a horse. I don’t want a horse.

A crafting hobby? Knitting or sewing. Maybe jewellery making?

pippinsleftleg · 22/06/2022 10:17

You could have a whole craft room!

AtomicBlondeRose · 22/06/2022 10:19

Definitely hobby stuff. Doll’s houses spring to mind!

Also consider taking up art - think of all the paints, pencils, paper, canvases…doesn’t even have to cost all that much to get started as there’s lots of little bits (I feel like I’m often buying sketch books/pencil sharpeners/little accessories that are under £10 but fun to shop for). Knitting and crochet also good for being able to get stuff cheaply.

TheVolturi · 22/06/2022 10:21

Oooooh get on Lovehoney and buy a shit load of dildos!

ColourFan · 22/06/2022 10:21

What about just embracing it and getting a dolls house? You could get a vintage one and do it up. Then there would be so much to collect for it as you fit out each room.

ColourFan · 22/06/2022 10:22

Me and you could not have had thoughts further apart @TheVolturi 😂

ByeByeMissAmericanPie · 22/06/2022 10:22

Yup. Knitting, crochet and or sewing….

You’ll have a lifetime of shopping ahead of you!

Also how about gardening?

Tallisker · 22/06/2022 10:23

Get a horse. They always need loads of stuff and cost a fortune Grin

Blueuggboots · 22/06/2022 10:24

Cake decorating, card making, collecting Emma bridgewater pottery (insert whatever make you like).

Exercise/gym/swimming stuff

Catnuzzle · 22/06/2022 10:27

Patchworking!

Nobheadex · 22/06/2022 10:27

I tried a couple of Franklin Mint Limited Edition butt plugs but they didn’t do it for me. I sold them all at a car boot sale. I kept my “Lady Diana Queen of Are Harts” one though cos it’s hardly used. Saving it for the grandchildren.

Oh yeh get an exercise hobby! The stuff to go with stuff is never ending... sports watches, clothing, shoes, nutritional supplements, magazines, bras, accessories

TheFlis12345 · 22/06/2022 10:28

Start gardening. There are always more plants / pots / tools to buy.

Nobheadex · 22/06/2022 10:29

These are quite good suggestions, I’d rate them 6 out of 10 but they’re a bit too broad. I need something with boundaries. Limitations.

A pegboard! I always want a pegboard when I go to IKEA.

SignOnTheWindow · 22/06/2022 10:30

Ha! Are you me?

My autistic/ADHD brain loves things that you can research thoroughly and accessorise.

Cake decorating
Jewellery making
Garden design
Storage and organisation
Fitness

All things that give me a lot of pleasure.

SheWoreYellow · 22/06/2022 10:31

There are some boundaries with the doll’s house idea though - you’d want to furnish it pleasingly, not beyond a certain point?

SignOnTheWindow · 22/06/2022 10:33

Loved dolls houses and Sylvanian Families and my toy farm as a kid. Never really played with them as such, just liked setting them up.

Oooh, a bit old school but how about a model railway?

EarthquakesinEastActon · 22/06/2022 10:36

Ryobi cordless power tools. You buy a battery with your first one and then you can get all sorts of other little (and big) tools you power with your battery pack. It’s not all grinders and drills and.rufty tufty stuff - we’ve got a brilliant little sander that sits in your hand for fiddly bits of architrave and things, and just bought a thing that pumps your car tyres up to a set value in seconds. New models coming out all the time. Includes vacuum cleaners of all sorts, a thing for washing your windows with and some lights you can use in a power cut. Every time I go and see my dad he’s got a new toy.

Chaoslatte · 22/06/2022 10:37

I second miniatures - doesn’t have to be a dolls house, you can get room boxes as well if you want to start with something smaller. My aunt has a dolls house and these ones aimed at collectors are different (much finer and nicer!) to ones aimed at children if that would be a concern.

BadAtMaths2 · 22/06/2022 10:38

A greenhouse....
