A thing that you can get lots of other things for.

Yes, this.

So when my eldest was a baby we got a ver ver posh pram and it had loads of extras available. Accessories. I loved buying the little bits for it, I had a cup holder and special mittens.

Then when the kids were a bit older I got a tent and loads of extra bits - internal bedrooms, lights etc. Thing was we all hated camping so really the only joy was my setting it all up in the garden and playing with it.

Then I had a campervan, same thing, loved buying extras and laying them all out and reorganising. Apparently I’ve always done this with my toys and dollies since I was a child.

Now I’m in my 50s I need a new thing. I tried kitchen wear, it didn’t do it for me as I don’t like cooking very much, although I do feel more smug when I put my frozen dinners in a Le Creuset casserole dish.

Im fully aware I sound like a sad fucker but please indulge me. What else is a thing that you can get other things for. Also please don’t say a horse. I don’t want a horse.

Seconding the food processor suggestion: I got a second hand KitchenAid Stand mixer and can now spend an embarrassing amount of time mooning over accessories like the dough hook, the paster maker, sausage filler....

Also a proper camera with different lenses and so on could work.

Get yourself a Build A Bear, and buy it lots of different outfits (plus wardrobe) and accessories.

Get a horse. They always need loads of stuff and cost a fortune Grin

Did you read the OP?

thecurtainsofdestiny · 22/06/2022 14:06

Woodturning?

ImprobablePuffin · 22/06/2022 14:30

I have a small craft cabin in the garden. With clever storage (a project in itself) I can fit everything in. Paperstock, cardstock, vinyl, cutting machines, and all the other stuff. I'm particularly proud of my collection of adhesives. Whatever the job/craft/task, I've got the adhesive for it. I identify a lot with you OP, what a wholesome and lovely thread.

Gardening . . .

katmarie · 22/06/2022 15:02

On the same theme as Ryobi, may I suggest Makita tools? Hubby has this poster in his workshop and seems to be determined to collect everything on it. Including the coffee machine.

A thing that you can get lots of other things for.

Oooooh get on Lovehoney and buy a shit load of dildos!

🤣

ditavonteesed · 22/06/2022 15:23

Zreading with interest as I'm exactly the same. I had a dolls house, that worked for ages. I also stared collecting Blythe dolls at one point. Loads of little clothes etc. when the kids were babies it was nappies and slings.

I have a camper. Started gym so doing gym kit but it has limits.

Did embroidery for a couple of years, had a subscription. A good subscription gives me great pleasure.
I love the extras.

@CafeCremeMerci - I think you're my soulmate!

I adore HayDay. Been playing on and off for a good 7-8 years with a bunch of other MNers.

Adore crafting, have every DMC cross stitch colour available neatly in craft boxes (more than one of most actually). Had to get rid of a huge number of patterns moving internationally. Beautiful collection of interchangeable knitting needles and regrowing my yarn stash since the move.

And my Lego collection is growing - I'm having to divide it from the main one as DS thinks that one is his.....I'm trying to sort through the main one, i've filled a purpose built IKEA Pax cupboard with bags of loose Lego.

Me and you could not have had thoughts further apart @TheVolturi 😂

ColourFan I'm with you and did NOT see that coming 😊I am now y'know simultaneously trying to think of d-do accessories and trying very hard not to think of them iyswim - like little knitted hats?

Bless you TheVoluri but if they are a thing please leave me in ignorance, the images in my head are hilarious.

Littlebirdyouaresosweet · 22/06/2022 16:22

Grow cactus plants..
And make your fortune op..
Had one in Dobbies smaller than the average penis for 80 quid!!

gingersplodgecat · 22/06/2022 16:22

Start a collection of something small and niche. like vintage postcards of Morocco.

Salutina · 22/06/2022 16:30

OP have you tried designing and kitting out the perfect capsule wardrobe? A capsule holiday wardrobe if you take holidays, and/or or your everyday wardrobe. I find it deeply satisfying trying to have the right sorts of things so I have something to wear for any occasion, without having too many things. (I presently have achieved neither so it is a fun ongoing project!) You can set boundaries using the 333 project or any other type of boundaries that work for you (charity-shop purchases only, or a set number of items maximum, or whatever) and then go for it.

Also: maybe Tupperware for organising the pantry cupboards/ fridge/ freezer? I know you said no kitchenware so sorry if that counts as kitchenware but it's a different category in my brain as it's food storage not cooking items.

Christmas decorations: if you enjoy xmas decorating you can get various Christmas train / scenery sets that you can add to each year

Essential oil blending / aromatherapy or home cosmetics making? Lots of books / little glass mixing bottles / beakers / pipettes to buy etc as well as new oils and other ingredients to build up a little home laboratory

I'll try to think of more! What a fab thread

KathieFerrars · 22/06/2022 16:40

Archery - loads of kit - can be endless. Lots of little bits like types of arm gaurds and sights and limbs and risers and nocking points and all sorts of arrows and coloured fletchings. Every archery club has a Dave or a Mike who has ALL the kit and will expound at length.

mrsfoof · 22/06/2022 16:41

Kenwood Chef. You can buy loads of bits for it:

Ice-cream maker
Liquidiser
Mini-blender
Sausage maker
Dough hooks
Juicer
