A thing that you can get lots of other things for.

Yes, this.

So when my eldest was a baby we got a ver ver posh pram and it had loads of extras available. Accessories. I loved buying the little bits for it, I had a cup holder and special mittens.

Then when the kids were a bit older I got a tent and loads of extra bits - internal bedrooms, lights etc. Thing was we all hated camping so really the only joy was my setting it all up in the garden and playing with it.

Then I had a campervan, same thing, loved buying extras and laying them all out and reorganising. Apparently I’ve always done this with my toys and dollies since I was a child.

Now I’m in my 50s I need a new thing. I tried kitchen wear, it didn’t do it for me as I don’t like cooking very much, although I do feel more smug when I put my frozen dinners in a Le Creuset casserole dish.

Im fully aware I sound like a sad fucker but please indulge me. What else is a thing that you can get other things for. Also please don’t say a horse. I don’t want a horse.

Lego makes grown ups odd though. My lovely mild mannered friend is secretly into really complex Lego and I touched a bit once and the look he gave me, chilled me to the bone.

😂😂😂😂

Toddlerteaplease · 22/06/2022 12:25

OP. I think I love you. You are hilarious. 😁

Letsgosew · 22/06/2022 12:32

@Nobheadex I see your Shark vacuum and raise you this - Vorwerk Cobbold. I should point out that I was lucky enough to win the main vacuum cleaner unit from Mumsnet , but I have faithfully paid out for several of the accessories, things I didn't know I needed until I spotted them on the website. And strangely, after buying them, discovered they weren't essential after all! The cleaner is hands down the best I've ever had and the accessories are good, just not essential.

I have a dream of my own wooden cabin in the garden .. in my dream Its a mix of beach hut/ cricket pavilion ( so has a verandah) .its also big enough for a bed ( which might be on a mezzanine) and has a compost loo and solar shower in an extension bit plus a sauna and a log oven/ smoker in another extension bit..

Obviously it has electricity for a wine fridge and kettle .
Just for me.. , though I might allow a cat to visit

As you can see , I have thought of this quite a bit already ... So much you could buy for it ...

Stigsmother · 22/06/2022 12:34

I'm going to up the ante on the axolotl and suggest an aquarium for marine fish.
Trust me there is always something to buy, and if, that's a big if, you feel you have completed one, it's time to set up another, bigger one 😂

Laska2Meryls · 22/06/2022 12:35

And once youve made it how you want ot , you can then kit it out it for any other hobby you fancied Smile....

Basilbrushgotfat · 22/06/2022 12:36

A husband.

SummerSiesta · 22/06/2022 12:38

I was just about to say a dolls house, so much fun knitting it out although in having to sell mine as no space in new house :(

mewkins · 22/06/2022 12:41

BadAtMaths2 · 22/06/2022 10:38

A greenhouse....

My suggestion too! You can spend many hours and loads of money pimping a greenhouse. Or you can scour bootsales and marketplace for extras.

monsterastuckiosa · 22/06/2022 12:43

Absolutely nothing practical to contribute here as I can't seem to get my head around quite what it is you're looking for – the whole thing is gloriously bananas – but YOU, OP, are utterly brilliant and I think I love you!

99ProblemsButAFartAintOne · 22/06/2022 12:49

You could start collecting the different 50p coins.

Lego is good but gets out of hand fast!

Sims is a good suggestion.

APurpleSquirrel · 22/06/2022 12:50

I was going to suggest soap making, but not sure it has the completion element you're after.

User2145738790 · 22/06/2022 12:53

Falconry. There's gloves, bags, lures, anklets, not to mention birds to collect.

This is my favourite thread since the m&s one last night but you're actually for real op. Thank you. Grin

GoodVibesHere · 22/06/2022 12:55

Gardening! Either yours or an allotment. There's so much to get! Pretty gardening gloves, bag, all the tools, seeds

longtompot · 22/06/2022 12:58

Specialist plants like succulents or cactus. There are so many different varieties and can buy teeny tiny gardening tools for them, and lots of interesting pots

Or Lino printing? Paper cutting pictures? Lots of different paper to buy, lots of different tools and stationery items too

Fifthtimelucky · 22/06/2022 13:12

Learn a musical instrument. You can buy eg a violin outfit (instrument, bow and case) very cheaply, then you'll need a shoulder rest, a music stand, rosin and some music, and a music case to put it in.

As you go on you can buy better strings, a better bow, a better case and a better instrument. You'll want a mute. You might want to experiment with a different chin rest or bridge. You can buy special paste to stop the pegs from slipping. You might want to replace the pegs with some nicer ones. You could buy special lights and a magnetic pencil holder to attach to your music stand.

Plenty of stuff to spend your money on. And there is always more music to buy.

superplumb · 22/06/2022 13:14

Allotment, mine costs a fortune!
Beauty stuff...face cream, masks, instruments, led masks, serums
Posh gym outfits with a decent music player and headphones

NoHeavenNoMore · 22/06/2022 13:30

Definitely the sims!! I wish I had time to play 😢

SBAM · 22/06/2022 13:44

Board games? Quite a few have expansion sets and different versions, eg Ticket to Ride, Monopoly, I think Settlers of Catan has expansion packs.

Featuredcreature · 22/06/2022 13:48

World of warcraft, so many things and achievements to collect. Similar to the sims in that it's never ending and ever expanding.

CafeCremeMerci · 22/06/2022 13:49

Try the game Hay Day, I'm NOT a 'gamer'. I was introduced to it by one of my small god daughters. I didn't like it at first but it's actually very addictive once you 'get' it. To 'play it well' you need to plan things out & play strategically. It's much more than a game. It has an extreme amount of cute deco to both win & buy & you can reorganise your your hearts delight.

I love organising my crafts & stuff more than doing any of them!

I loved setting up my dolls stuff as a child, far far far more than actually playing with them.

one of the best times was when the girls were little and I 'found' HappyLand. I loved collecting the bits & setting up the village/park etc etc & they loved playing with it all. Bliss.

I live Lego too. My dream is boxes & boxes of the stuff with the building guides & being able to make the sets up! Most that you can buy in ebay etc is just random bags if a given weight. Not sets. I can buy it to build, of course, but it's all to streamlined. I want the joy of looking for the 'right bit'

uncomfortablydumb53 · 22/06/2022 13:49

I see a PP has already posted my idea but a musical instrument.
A guitar has lots of accessories, or any musical instrument really

Hobbes8 · 22/06/2022 13:56

Isn’t there a World Cup coming up? You could get the sticker album. You could arrange to meet small boys in the park for swapsies.

anotherneutralname · 22/06/2022 13:57

model railways (get the completeness aspect by picking a location / era / train line)

or bookbinding.

devonianBiatch · 22/06/2022 13:57

A dolls house! Then when you are fed up you can literally redecorate and start again.
