How many more ways to fuck up the country can this government invent?

I’m 58 and have never ever seen a government so full of lying, corrupt twats who just don’t give a shit.

And as l grew up under Thatchet l think that’s saying something! It’s like a horror show watching them.

Thatcher of course, promoted the idea of the Single Market. Now even though the Tories reckon to worship at the altar of St Maggie, this is something that they overlook.

DeclineandFall · 15/06/2022 22:34

The only thing that keeps me going through this whole distressing, indecent, shit show is that Johnson is mostly concerned with his place in the history books and too narcissistic to see that historians will lay bare every small detail of
his hideous, venal, amoral, incompetent, corrupt life and career. Not much good it does us now but something to look forward to. I don't blame him so much, as he is in obvious need of a pyschiatrist and probably a visit to a drying out clinic, but the shills and lackeys that go along with him and keep him there. Every day I can't believe what this country has come to.

VicToryA · 15/06/2022 22:36

I was very much in favour of Margaret Thatcher. I loathe Boris Johnson and this repulsive and corrupt government and every single decision they have made. The only semi good decision they made was to end lockdowns - but they should never have inflicted them on people in the first place.

I am still absolutely a Conservative, but I will not vote for Boris Johnson (and didn't at the last election, due to Brexit). This is not a Conservative government.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 15/06/2022 20:51

I loathed Thatcher but at least she was an intelligent woman with some principles, even if I didn't agree with them. She worked very hard and she didn't suffer fools gladly. Johnson is a fool, he has recruited a cabinet full of fools and he is incorrigibly lazy, incompetent and dishonest. This is the worst government of my lifetime, and I'm over 60. Utterly shameful.

Totally agree. The current generation of politicians is made up of intellectual lightweights with no instinct for policy and no vision. The days of proper grown ups like Thatcher, Wilson, Callaghan, Brown, Clarke, Heseltine, Howe, Castle and the rest look like golden times compared to now, whichever side you’re on.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 15/06/2022 20:55

I hated hated Thatcher, but l just don’t think she would have had parties during lockdown.

Still hate her though.

I agree that I’m pretty sure she would have followed the rules.

Skodacool · 15/06/2022 22:42

Exactly my thinking too. I’m 73 and have seen many governments but nothing as awful as things on.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 15/06/2022 22:45

In the past, British politics and everything really has followed America. I hope the next election heralds then return of the grown ups. Whatever party they are.

l used to think Jeremy Hunt was bad for messing with the young doctors contracts. Now l wish he was leader🫤

I think people aren’t rising up because they’re kind of brow beaten by the daily grind.

Scrimp and scrape on minimum wage
Cant buy a house
No money for fun
Cant run a car.
Hungry kids
shit services

It grinds you down and becomes about surviving. No energy left to protest.

It's all been normalised as well. This appalling behaviour and constant lying.

tobee · 15/06/2022 22:45

Cuck00soup · 15/06/2022 22:32

Thatcher believed she knew best and carried on her own sweet way regardless. Actually she thought she knew what people needed better than they did.

Boris only wants to do what's best for Boris so people don't matter at all.

Yes

TooBigForMyBoots · 15/06/2022 22:49

I think PM Johnson is an example to us all and y'all are misunderstanding him. You should be emulating him.

Is a law stopping you from having fun? WTF are you doing cowering under a Nanny State? Fun is not only a fundamental human right, it's a responsibility. A responsibility of Leaders. If the law is preventing you from having fun and being an effective leader, break that law. Break it again and again until you've broken it a hundred times. Don't be sorry, you did the right thing. If other people suffered because they obeyed the law, that's on them. Idiots.🙄🤭

Did you negotiate and sign a contract but you can't be arsed fulfilling your end because of whatever? Do what you want. They don't understand you. And how great you are. They don't want to be blamed for lost lives. They'll come round in the end. Easier to ask forgiveness than permission.😘😆

So, in short the message from PM Johnson seems to be you don't have to obey laws you don't want to, it's fine to renege on contracts if you change your mind and it's alright to be a lazy, lying cunt who spaffs millions up the wall for headlines and lolz.

Anarchy In The UK 2022 is not the Sex Pistols, it's the British Conservative Party.🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 15/06/2022 22:55

Yes, it feels like anarchy.

Why did I just read that, and in my head Matt Lucas was impersonating Boris ….🤣

QueenOfHiraeth · 15/06/2022 22:59

I think this government are a shower of shite but also blame the media. They whip up so many storms trying to make more news about a million and one things that we are all ground down and exhausted. I suspect if they just reported the facts as they used to in years gone by we would all be far more rationally angry about things

Hesperatum · 15/06/2022 23:04

And yet and yet, there are still people who think Boris and his cronies are doing a good job...I despair.

spanishsummers · 15/06/2022 23:07

@Vikki69 That's not true . it absolutely wasn't Blair who privatised GP practices and removed the actual GPs to ensure profit.. Not that I'd defend him, but you are not accurate. Then again, Tories these days believe they can make up any old crap, because sone fools will believe it. Trump lesson number 1.

It's all they've got. Blame remainers. It worked very well for them before. Could well work again

Another thread has quoted Marina Hyde and also The New Statesman that the Rwanda is a ruse to create Brexit division again. Lining it all up for the next election.

wonderstuff · 15/06/2022 23:27

It’s horrendous and every time you think it’s hit a low point they do something worse. A government of self-serving idiots. I thought when Thatcher left things could only get better but now I’m nostalgic for her. Maybe we as a generation that were children when she was elected are understanding now why she was popular? I was born in 79 so don’t have an understanding of what happened before her. My father talked about the country being a mess and her sorting it out.

I think that's exactly it! The people who don't want asylum seekers shipped to Rwanda will be branded the 'metropolitan elite' again, along with 'Leftie Lawers'

Sarahcoggles · 15/06/2022 21:39

I'm not saying I disagree, because I don't - but if England is so awful, why do people want to come here?

Why did I (EU citizen) come to the UK? Because I didn't speak French well enough to get a degree in France. I still sometimes regret that fact....

The UK once ruled over the most extensive empire in history and consequently a lot of people speak its language.

Refugees and migrants have enough on their plate without having to learn a language from scratch. They stand no chance in the labour markets of countries whose languages they do not speak. You can figure out the rest. Odd how little this obvious fact is acknowledged.

Marmitemother · 15/06/2022 23:54

MissyB1 · 15/06/2022 20:49

Got to agree with you OP. I’m 54 and can’t remember ever being actually ashamed to be British before, I’m totally embarrassed about our immoral and incompetent Government.
It’s a like a very long bad dream, well more of a nightmare really!

I'm 63 and you took the words right out of my mouth. Totally amoral self serving fukewits the lot of them led by a lying, law breaking, serial adulterer dragging this country into the gutter!

GPs have been private since the start of the NHS.

tobee · 16/06/2022 00:00

Brexit is all they've got. They have to milk it for all it's worth. Even though it's an obvious shit show and Johnson is only interested in it to keep him in power.

ElephantsFart · 16/06/2022 00:45

I have just returned from a trip overseas and I am embarrassed and worried by the state of the UK. We deserve the basics, we should demand functional green transport, high standards in public life, good health and dental care for all, proper affordable food, childcare and elder care, well maintained green spaces, equipped schools where teachers are not micromanaged.

And politicians who understand how to manage the economy, which the tories have comprehensively messed up. Under no objective measure can the tories be seen as safe with the economy. We need more support for small and medium businesses, like Farms who produce our food. Politicians who are pragmatic, understand what life is like in the real world and less ideologically driven.
