I wondered why my niece (19) was asking me about seeing Kate Bush at Hammersmith afew years as she’d never mentioned her before. Ive never watched Stranger Things but how lovely that a new generation is listening to her www.theguardian.com/music/2022/jun/10/kate-bushs-running-up-that-hill-climbs-higher-than-ever-to-no-2-in-charts i was 8 in 1979 but can still remember being hypnotised by her. And then after that she was the soundtrack to my uni days.

I love Sensual World and Army Dreamers her videos were bizarre😃

I'm so surprised how London/Kentish she sounds on that NE interview - always assumed she was a bit posh!

Anyway - I actually think there was quite a bit of KB love in the air before Stranger Things concreted it. Same with Stevie Nicks

As for my favourite songs - so many but Man With the Child in His Eyes still blows me away and I love the conceit of Hounds of Love.

ClinkeyMonkey · 22/06/2022 10:44

Thank you @TanteRose just listened to that. Lovely to hear her voice.

Musomama1 · 22/06/2022 13:05

A lot of things wrong with the world but Kate Bush is currently no.1, so we've at least got something right.

It's difficult to pick between songs, This Woman's Work maybe? I love how she writes from male perspectives as well as female.

Also she's such a sneaky prog artist! If you say you don't like prog but love Kate Bush, you're a prog fan my friend.

Musomama1 · 22/06/2022 13:10

Oh and it never gets a mention but The Red Shoes is so underrated, it's my fave KB album.

RhannionKPSS · 22/06/2022 13:54

I love The Red Shoes 👠
Kate was interviewed on Woman’s Hour this morning. You can catch up on BBC Sounds.

GertrudeKerfuffle · 22/06/2022 14:03

Wow, I love that she could have picked literally any media outlet to speak to, and decided on Woman's Hour 😁

I hear you. In the midst of all that is wrong and ongoing life troubles, I keep reminding myself that Kate Bush is no1 in the charts. This thread is really lovely too, so many people with a real love of the music.

And BTW, she isn't a Dame why?! (I know she got the CBE)

LyndaSnellsSniff · 22/06/2022 18:52

Can't pick a fave but I love

This Woman's Work (can't listen without having a teeny cry)
Suspended in Gaffa. (She's so gorgeous in the video.)
Under The Ivy (I've only recently discovered this!)
Moments of Pleasure (the lyric "he meets us at the lift like Douglas Fairbanks, waving his walking stick. But he isn't well at all" breaks my heart)
And Dream of Sheep
Hello Earth (I adore the lyric "all you fishermen, head for home. Go to sleep little earth)

Inkanta · 22/06/2022 19:18

Just listened to her interview on woman's hour. Ah She sounds lovely and well chuffed and humbled.

Jellykat · 22/06/2022 19:28

Completely agree with The sensual world as the best, she is bloody sexy in the video too, ive always had a major girl crush with that one..

WobblyLondoner · 22/06/2022 19:50

Loved the woman's hour interview - have a listen bbc.in/3zTETId

Great bit at the end which I know will chime for all of us!

Daisyroseandhyacinth · 22/06/2022 19:51

Maybe she’ll think of doing another tour? Gutted I didn’t go to the last one.

prettyteapotsplease · 22/06/2022 19:59

The Man with the Child in his Eyes is an early favourite, plus her duet with Peter Gabriel, Don't Give Up which always makes me cry. The latter was played on the radio for us, requested by my late husband after a terminal diagnosis. We didn't mention it, but it brings back memories of those very difficult months.

GertrudeKerfuffle · 22/06/2022 22:02

So sorry for your loss @prettyteapotsplease Flowers

I listened to The Kick Inside incessantly the first time I was in love and every time I hear a song from it, the memories, over 40 years later.

NotMushroomInEre · 30/07/2022 22:42

I think anything I hear her sing I absolutely love. I'm just watching Kate Bush at The BBC now, and I think she was/is a brilliant artist, singer and amazing dancer.

My favourites are Wuthering Heights, This Woman's Work, The Man with the Child in his Eyes and Running up that Hill. I liked it before Stranger Things though, but I'm glad it is on the radio constantly and that the younger generation are enjoying it.

I loved hearing Juice Newton's version of Angel of the Morning on Deadpool too 😁

Axlcat · 30/07/2022 22:48

My favourite artist. The first album I ever owned as a kid (I was considered odd!) Too difficult to pick a favourite - depends on my mood. I could probably pick a favourite album and that would be Ariel. I was lucky to see her twice at Hammersmith and the most amazing gig I’ve ever seen.

RhannionKPSS · 31/07/2022 13:34

Over 200 Cathies danced yesterday in the Centre of Edinburgh to celebrate our admiration for Kate & her music! It’s was fantastic, beautiful weather and a sea of women in red & black.

Pedallleur · 31/07/2022 14:05

Watched her on BBC last night. Told my daughter you are looking at genius and a singular talent and there was/Will be no one like Kate. V.few artists like that. I'm glad she achieved her success before the internet and sm. It allowed her to develop and us to be wowed (See what I did there?) when she released something.

ShirleyJackson · 31/07/2022 14:09

The Sensual World and Moments of Pleasure.

And Hounds of Love. And This Woman’s Work. And The Man with the Child in His Eyes. And…

PermanentTemporary · 31/07/2022 23:37

I've been listening to And Dream of Sheep and Hello Earth all day.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 02/08/2022 21:28

Hopefully whatever they like...
