I wondered why my niece (19) was asking me about seeing Kate Bush at Hammersmith afew years as she’d never mentioned her before. Ive never watched Stranger Things but how lovely that a new generation is listening to her www.theguardian.com/music/2022/jun/10/kate-bushs-running-up-that-hill-climbs-higher-than-ever-to-no-2-in-charts i was 8 in 1979 but can still remember being hypnotised by her. And then after that she was the soundtrack to my uni days.

I love Sensual World and Army Dreamers her videos were bizarre😃

I was 15 and heard Wuthering Heights one of the first times it was ever played on radio. I went to school next day raving about it to anyone who would listen. I thought she was a genius but now I know she's a goddess. Grin

This woman’s work - beautiful song.

They were brilliant and they are getting increasingly more popular thanks to Stranger Things.

Mandy was on Jeremy Vine the other day, but I first learnt about Cloudbusting when she went on Popmaster and erm didn't do so well. I looked them up not long after that.

You're fine here. 🙂

I like it but it's just a very different song in my opinion.

Genevieve99 · 10/06/2022 23:15

Too hard to choose, but if I had to I think The Man With The Child In His Eyes, and Moving

Desiredeffect · 10/06/2022 23:16

I love running up that hill. Loved the series running scared to

MrsDrDear · 10/06/2022 23:17

I was 8 when Wuthering Heights was released, that was my first single so I have a soft spot for that song.

I was given The Kick Inside for my 9th birthday which I listened to religiously, favourite song has to be Man With the Child in his Eyes.

Rockbird · 10/06/2022 23:23

So hard to choose...

Jig of Life
Hello Earth
Suspended in Gaffa
Night of the Swallow
The Big Sky
Them Heavy People
Rocket's Tail

Nope, can't choose!

Tithebarnacle · 10/06/2022 23:28

Experiment 1V

BigBadJohn · 10/06/2022 23:28

Army dreamers/Babooshka/Wuthering Heights

Tottie · 10/06/2022 23:28

My all time favourites are Army Dreamers, Running Up that Hill and CloudBusting. I love the videos too, as different as they are to each other. But i think Kate is a genius and love a great proportion of her work. @Badlifeday and @pointythings Escape is by Rupert Holmes, he has some other catchy tunes that I actually quite like and are in my Spotify playlist 😳 along with Escape.

misssunshine4040 · 10/06/2022 23:41

Them heavy people and Army dreamers

exLtEveDallas · 11/06/2022 06:23

So many, but I think Experiment IV is probably my fave.
Years ago I had a video of her songs (The Whole Story maybe?) and would play it over and over. Experiment IV (and Army Dreamers) were so good, like mini films.

None of her stuff. Can't abide her tuneless wailing.

Then go away. You don't need to comment - you're adding nothing.

Brody77 · 11/06/2022 07:07

Love cloud busting and running up that hill. Love placebo’s cover too not more but just as much in a different way. My dd loves babushka and we sing it loud in the car which is fab.

BlueThursday · 11/06/2022 08:37

Got to be Running Up That Hill.

Her live version with David Gilmour is just perfection

WobblyLondoner · 11/06/2022 08:56

I still remember seeing her on top of the pops singing withering heights - I'm mortified that I didn't really like it at the time! Lots of chats about it at school the next day.

I love so many of the songs others have mentioned but wanted to put in a plea for a later album, Aerial and, in particular, Sunset. Bloody marvellous.

I love running up that hill and was so so pleased when it first turned up in Stranger things. It appears more than once, but the main time in a really key and moving scene. Fantastic choice of track for it so I'm not surprised it's been embraced so much.

I think she's just so cool too! Blush

Biscuitsareme · 11/06/2022 09:53

So hard to choose.
I love Running up that hill.
Café Homeground
Don't put your foot on the heartbreak
Army Dreamers
Under Ice

mynxy · 11/06/2022 10:46

Night of the Swallow and King of the Mountain

Thanks for this thread, it's made me dig out my collection and listen to the fab Kate :-)

CPL593H · 11/06/2022 11:07

Have to return with Never Be Mine and from Aerial, A Coral Room. The last is about memories of her mother and the line " Put your hand over the side of the boat" echoes Dr Bush speaking "Just put your feet down child" in The Fog.

I don't think I'm over reading Grin

EachandEveryone · 11/06/2022 13:23

I’ve just read that Julee Cruise has died. Her style was quite similar. Different.

Does anyone else remember the kids tv show running up that hill was originally the soundtrack to?

I've always loved the song but it's always linked to the tv programme.

Yes @ThinkAboutItTomorrow 'Running Scared' written by Bernard Ashley (he of the even better 'Break in the Sun'). Starred Chris Ellison, a musical box and a missing pair of 'bins'. The lyrics were very appropriate.
