What's with the leggings wedgie look?

I hope I'm not being rude and perhaps I'm showing my age, but what is it with people wearing leggings the are wedged right into their butt crack? It seems like this is the current trend but it seems so vulgar 🙈

And by the way, how are you all walking down the street to be constantly assaulted by ‘the outline of her privates, front and back?’ Did you see the back then rush round to view the front? Or are you a particularly small person who often finds themselves at crotch level?

People are allowed an opinion and inner thoughts.

femfemlicious · 06/06/2022 08:16

Yes its definitely a thing. They are trying to show off the bum and also the vagina too. Its a thing to show the shape of the vagina.

SpaghettiNotCourgetti · 06/06/2022 08:35

@KasabianKat I got mine from Amazon.

I don't know about anyone else, but my leggings don't go that far up...

What’s that got to do with my question as to how people are apparently so assaulted by other people’s privates?

growandhope · 06/06/2022 08:47

it is a teenager trend and it is not great but they grow out of it, at least most times it's not a big lumpy year old 40+.kardashian ass.

Moomoo75 · 06/06/2022 08:54

Oh my gosh, I can't understand this new look at all. It's probably my age though. I think it looks terrible. I also can't help but think that its v. Unhygienic. 😨

boronia · 06/06/2022 09:07

I think it looks awful but I'm 59.
I also hate the bikini bottoms designed to be stuffed in arse cracks.
Happy for younger women to wear the look if they like it.
I think during the French Revolution women in society in Paris used to have transparent tops on their dresses and rouge their nipples so fashion is often pretty bizarre.

Why is it that so many people can't wait to say it's all being done "for the male gaze"?

Young women/teen girls dress to impress/imitate each other every bit as much as for males. Someone mentioned caterpillar eyebrows earlier - are those to impress males too? Of course not. They're copying whatever female trendsetter/social media type person is doing.

There's Kardashian 'totally OTT huge arse' thing that so many seem to want... Why? No way are men going to be lusting after that! It's just that someone very famous (to that age group) looks like that so they want to imitate.

I'm sure that when the older MNers were young and following trends they weren't doing it "for the male gaze", they were doing it because it's fashion.

Nope, pretty sure the very short skirts and Wonderbras I wore were for the male gaze. Hello Boys, and all that.

Yes, women imitate other women, but it's disingenuous to suggest that clothing which is specifically designed to highlight boobs, arse and vulva isn't doing it for the male gaze.

SirChenjins · 06/06/2022 09:25

On the female gaze, depending obvs

I certainly never dr

JerichoGirl · 06/06/2022 09:35

I never dressed to impress men. I dressed in clothes I liked because I thought they looked nice. I was also influenced by what my friends liked.

DillonPanthersTexas · 06/06/2022 09:37

It is definitely 'a thing' down my local gym where quite a few women seem to be trying really hard to show off everything via vacuum sealed leggings. There is one young lady who often wears flesh coloured leggings and I honestly thought she was half naked first time I noticed her, you could literally see 'everything'.

Same as me. I just wanted to be trendy and fit in. It was always about what my female friends thought of me, not boys.

Now I’m often in leggings and it’s for comfort and laziness so I don’t have to change for the gym.

BarbaraofSeville · 06/06/2022 10:06

I think this is my biggest 'objection' to this trend. If it wasn't fashionable to dress like this, anyone who did would be destroyed by their peers, with incredibly mean comments, both to their face and also behind their backs, especially if their body shape wasn't one that is conventionally thought to be 'suitable' for very revealing clothing.

Which also means that it is likely that lots of young women are wearing clothes that they don't feel comfortable in, to fit in with current fashion.

dontgobaconmyheart · 06/06/2022 10:14

I'd assumed it had passed down from Instagram where it's been a thing for years with the fitness influencers; hundreds of identical reels and shots of them doing exaggerated squats in them etc

I saw a behind the scenes of a shoot for a fitness brand on there once and they stuffed inserts in the leggings to get the shot and a perfectly round backside.

I have to say I've not seen anyone wearing them in 'real' life but people wear leggings as trousers pretty routinely around here. I can't bring myself to wear them out of the house but each to their own. I'm sure some other female body part will be exaggerated soon rather than a bum, such is the sad way of life.

SirChenjins · 06/06/2022 10:17

And yet it just so happens that these clothes emphasise the parts of the body which are linked to sexuality....

It's the insidiousness of the sexualisation of women which is so depressing - it's so engrained that women stop questioning it.

Let's hope it's elbows.

mypinkslippers · 06/06/2022 11:19

I have these and I wear them because they give my non bum the look of a real bum. They give me an arse. I don't tend to have it on show though, but this is why they are worn, I'm sure of it.

StarlightLady · 06/06/2022 11:20

@boronia

I think during the French Revolution women in society in Paris used to have transparent tops on their dresses and rouge their nipples so fashion is often pretty bizarre.

In addition to the above, in the French Court, some dresses were cut underbust,so the whole breast and nipples were fully exposed. But an exposed ankle was a big no-no! You wouldn't do it.

This demonstrates how what is acceptable in terms of fashion evolves and changes.

EmmaH2022 · 06/06/2022 11:27

I don't think I've seen this. Leggings seem ubiquitous but not seen this.

What’s a real bum? Confused

I agree. All bums are real?

Penguinevere · 06/06/2022 12:49

i saw this fashion at the weekend. You know what’s good about it? It looks comfortable and it celebrates all sizes.

when I was a teenager the equivalent was low cut jeans which were uncomfortable and gave most people a muffin top which would be fine except you didn’t want a muffin top, oh no. Kudos on kids these days for being more body positive.

EmmaH2022 · 06/06/2022 12:51

I googled but not sure I got the right results. Leggings that make arses look bigger?
